Wolf Man, you posted this not far up:
This argument is one of the main reasons why I hate the Animation Age Ghetto trope.
This was the first post where I noticed anyone talking about Animation Age Ghetto.
You misinterpreted everything I ever said anyway, but I do wonder what you could have thought it had to do with AAG.

bogleech.com for my writing, comics and cartoons.Agreed with the above. Although, I don't know why so many people take the AAG seriously here when that has nothing to do with the thread.
Some folks on the Internet think they're a special GIFT to the world, and others aren't. In this perspective, they're kind of right.I think I've been confused into giving up on this particular part of the conversation. : [
bogleech.com for my writing, comics and cartoons.Never watched the show before. Although I've heard it used to be a pretty good show but now its just a bad Simpsons clone with unfunny pop culture references thrown in.
Un-frickin-touchable.Of course it seems to be full of unfunny pop culture references to the people who detest it, but I find pop culture references unfunny and still think most of the jokes on Family Guy are good. There's always plenty of bizarre original gags and amusing dialog twists.
It just barely has any character development or depth to speak of, and it's animated more for convenience than for, you know, art.
bogleech.com for my writing, comics and cartoons.I never liked any of the characters. I think a better point would be the abuse to Meg was just never really funny. Just really funny describes a lot of things in Family Guy.
What really pisses off is that every time that someone says that an offensive joke is not funny, people just say that they just being too sensitive. (sorry for run-on) Is it possible that the joke is just not funny?
Aparentally not.
I wouldn't know; I can be genuinely and deeply offended by something and then later agree that it was pretty damn funny. Kodomo No Jikan for example, Family Guy not so much anymore
Um...add “lots of nasty misanthropy” to that list and that’s pretty much what FG has always been.
Although a close friend of mine who probably hates FG even more than me considers American Dad a guilty pleasure (after much, much resistance, apparently). I’ll take his word for it. Seth MacFarlane’s humour style just doesn’t really appeal to me. Different people have different tastes, you know.
Confirmed Bachelors: the dramedy hit of 1883!Agreed. The show is quite difficult for me to enjoy anyway, along with The Cleveland Show, especially since they supposedly caused plenty of fan haters to emerge.
The best thing about American Dad is that the lack of cutaways tend to force the writing staff to work harder at creating good, interesting plots. It did start off as Family Guy -ish, but the episode Stan of Arabia really changed the tone of it.
Emperor Wu liked cake, but not exploding cake!I thought it only did the cut-away stuff in the pilot.
They only did cutaway gags in the pilot, every other episode lacks it and starts focusing more on the plotlines.
Some folks on the Internet think they're a special GIFT to the world, and others aren't. In this perspective, they're kind of right.Whenever a new episode of Family Guy airs, there appears to be a mad dash to be the first to add it to the Dethroning Moment of Suck page.
I don't know why, but that post makes me laugh. I guess it's just the imagery of people running to their computers and typing as fast as possible or something.
While I think that for a time Family Guy was FUNNIER than The Simpsons, I still couldn't bring myself to enjoy it, because It lacks even a single likeable character, that and the show is fueled by cynicism. At least you could sympathize with some characters from The Simpsons, and it was clear that deep down they all love each other. To me Family Guy is nothing but gags, and that makes it pretty hollow
"Contests fought between two masters are decided instantly. An invisible battle is now raging between the two of them." Lulu vs SchneizelI guess that's why I can't stand watching it anymore. ALL THE CYNICISM. I sometimes feel like it specifically appeals to people who believe everything is worthless, which I assume is a popular perspective among many.
- insert a photo of the Family Guy writers with the caption "I hate everything", and leave it at that -
Lol, I should edit out the middle of that Mega Man scene where Dr. Wily says "I hate Mega Man. He ruins everything" and say he's one of the writers.
American Dad found a very, very different identity from Family Guy very fast. While just as cynical, it focuses much more on story and the characters have many more layers than the Griffin family. Anyone who hates Family Guy and never gave American Dad a chance should do so, as even if you still hate it, it's interesting to see what happens when a Mcfarlane show cares more about plot.
bogleech.com for my writing, comics and cartoons.About the Family Guy DMOS page, it appears to be nothing more than a complaint page for nonstop bitching about an episode of the show or taking jabs at Seth MacFarlane simply because they were offended by something or they weren't amused by a particular gag. Apparently, tropers love the Family Guy DMOS page.

Some folks on the Internet think they're a special GIFT to the world, and others aren't. In this perspective, they're kind of right.I've never thought Family Guy was that great. For the first couple seasons, I had the same attitude toward it that I had toward Animaniacs as a little kid; it was okay, but not something I'd go out of my way to watch. My younger brother (who's 19, if y'all care) is a big fan of it, so I really only saw later episodes with him, and I've got to agree that they have some of the laziest writing I've ever seen or heard. Milking a joke for 5 minutes, cutting away to something random, etc. doesn't equal comedic gold. That, and their treatment of Meg in later years is Exhibit A of why I hate the Butt-Monkey trope (because lazy writers use it as a substitute for real character development). And yes, because I complain about that and the offensive jokes, I get accused of being overly sensitive. Very few diehard fans of FG are willing to accept the fact that things that are offensive just for the sake of being offensive aren't that funny to a lot of people.
“Imagination is more important than knowledge." -Albert EinsteinYou know, sometimes I think people too easily dismiss something they find unfunny as "offensive for the sake of offensive." A LOT of things I find gut-bustingly hysterical have been accused of such, and that's honestly not at all what I get out of them. I don't care if something is "shocking" or "edgy"...I'm often taken by surprise when I discover something I laughed at was offensive to anybody. I just enjoy unexpected, absurd and tragic twists.

bogleech.com for my writing, comics and cartoons.I find Family Guy hilarious and honestly don't care who it offends or why.
