Funerals are generally considered tragic by default. I think Empty Funeral would work nicely.
Empty Funeral is much better. Let's check the usage.
Fight smart, not fair. This title has brought 37 people to the wiki from non-search engine links since 20th FEB '09.
Not a great amount of wicks. Should we run a Single Prop for renaming?
“Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too?”Clever, but presents some of the same problems as Tragic Funeral. Pretty much any funeral would be called "unlively", even if people did show up.
Sounds good. I don't know quite how to do that.
^ No prob, I'll do it. One sec.
Edit: Done. Here's the crowner. I'll holler a mod to hook it.
And I like Empty Funeral, which was mentioned earlier.

“Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too?”That's why I added "particulary".
I support clear names but I want something a little catchier than Empty Funeral, ecspecially to something that needs more wicks.
Plus, unlike Tragic Funeral, Particularly Unlivley Funeral can apply to a funeral that no one attended to because the guy was a jerk. You can't call a low-attendance funeral a tradgedy if it was a serial killer, but you can call it particularly unlivley.
Put me in motion, drink the potion, use the lotion, drain the ocean, cause commotion, fake devotion, entertain a notion, be Nova ScotianWhile I don't oppose people trying to come up with clever options, we have to keep in mind that clarity always takes priority over cleverness. A clever option should also be clear, or at least hard to mistake for something else. Although personally I don't find Particularly Unlively Funeral to be especially clever anyway. Perhaps if it was really clever I'd have a different opinion on it.
^^ You could also call it "empty". Because, you know, it is. Like Clarste said, I don't find Particularly Unlively Funeral that clever in the first place, so it's technically worse than Empty Funeral.
Besides, I think a clear name is best for something that needs more wicks. An overly clever name might just lead to misuse, which is pretty much the opposite of what we want.

“Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too?”^Fair. I supose Particularly Unlivley Funeral can be confused for a solenm funeral.
Put me in motion, drink the potion, use the lotion, drain the ocean, cause commotion, fake devotion, entertain a notion, be Nova ScotianI'll suggest Dead Funeral, even though it'll probably end up having the same problems as Particularly Unlively Funeral.
Empty Funeral is fine. I want to make a title based off of Eleanor Rigby but nothing is coming to mind. Don't like the song anyway.
I want to come up with something witty and clear but nothing comes to mind...
Put me in motion, drink the potion, use the lotion, drain the ocean, cause commotion, fake devotion, entertain a notion, be Nova ScotianI think it can be reasonably assumed that being witty yet clear is the meta-goal of a large fraction of humanity for a large fraction of their lives.
Yeah, it's great to be clear and witty, but sometimes you can't have both and you just have to suck it up.
Put me in motion, drink the potion, use the lotion, drain the ocean, cause commotion, fake devotion, entertain a notion, be Nova ScotianThe closest title I can think of to "Eleanor Rigby" (my personal favorite Beatles song) would be Lonely Funeral (which is only a sidelong reference at best, based solely on how many times "lonely" is repeated in the song). Empty Funeral would be my personal choice, although a note should be on there to not mistake this for an empty casket funeral (which could either be due to having Never Found the Body, the Chunky Salsa Rule, or good old fashioned Faking the Dead).
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster.I kinda like Lonely Funeral. I don't get the reference, but you don't need to to understand the name.
Put me in motion, drink the potion, use the lotion, drain the ocean, cause commotion, fake devotion, entertain a notion, be Nova ScotianLonely Funeral sounds good. Or how about something like Mournerless Funeral? Or Unattended Funeral?
I think I'm coming up with too many ideas.
...I don't think I want to here you say that ever again.
Your not coming up with enough ideas!
Keep dem creative juices a-flowin'.

Put me in motion, drink the potion, use the lotion, drain the ocean, cause commotion, fake devotion, entertain a notion, be Nova ScotianIt's been three days and the Single Prop overwhelmingly supports a rename. I think it'll be fine to switch out the Single Prop with an Alternative Names crowner.
Here's the alternative names crowner.

“Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too?”The sidelong reference to "Eleanor Rigby" in the title Lonely Funeral would be, basically, just a reference to how many times "I look at all the lonely people" is sung in the song, particularly near the verse about Ms. Rigby's funeral. It's extraordinarily strained; I wouldn't mention it on the trope page should it get chosen as a new name because of that.
Like I said, I voted for Empty Funeral because I think it's a more evocative name... that said, I'd be highly amused if I came up with the name when I'm not even all that fond of it.
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster. But I like Lonley Funeral because it works for a person who dosen't get the refernce, like me.
I think it just sounds a little more flavorful than Empty Funeral.
Also, the trope dose not require a funeral to be literally empty so it's also a bit more clear.
I think we shouldn't even say it's a refernce to the song.

Put me in motion, drink the potion, use the lotion, drain the ocean, cause commotion, fake devotion, entertain a notion, be Nova ScotianI didn't think it was a reference to a song. Lonely is a descriptive adjective...
Rhymes with "Protracted."Empty Funeral is a little more ambiguous than Lonely Funeral, since "empty" could also be interpreted as "meaningless". Not too likely, maybe, but in the absence of any affirmative arguments for it I think that tips the balance toward Lonely Funeral for me.
132 is the rudest number.
Crown Description:
Vote up for yes, down for no.
The trope is that a funeral is held, and no one shows up. The title sounds like "It's sad at the funeral", which could be true no matter if 50 people showed up. The title needs to indicate that the sad part is that no one showed up at the funeral. I think a name like No One Showed At The Funeral or Empty Funeral would be better.
