The topic is pretty obvious.

I've barely played any Tekken 6, but so far I'm looking at Lee and/or Marshall Law. I still have to try out other characters, but I like the Fragile Speedster type in this series. I wish there were more multi-level stages (eg. Graveyard, Fallen Colony), I'm in love with them for some reason.

In older games where I don't know the balance, I just spam with Kuma.

I like Lili for some reason. Besides disgusting nerd lust.

I wonder if they'll bring back Alex. Used to be a cheap asshole and spam One-Two Punch or whatever it was called in Tekken Tag.

Alex was just a reskin of Roger, wasn't he?

An awesome reskin.

I love Tekken 2's soundtrack.

The only Tekken I haven't played was the first one. Tekken 2 was the reason I fell in love with the series.

Fave fighters are Lars,Jin,Heihachi,Kazuya,Paul,Marshal/Forrest Law, Miguel Caballero Rojo and Asuka Kazama. Nina gets and Xiaoyu get honorary mentions.

Roger Jr. has a very kangaroo specific moveset starting with 5. If they bring Alex back, they'll probably have to give him a bunch of Utahraptor appropriate moves, a new stance, etc.

This would be awesome, but I doubt it'll happen.

I got Tekken 6 for like seven bucks. Great deal. I love Steve Fox because he's the only character i can reliably sidestep with and Anna because she has attacks that are easy to input but cause huge damage. King's still the awesomesauce though. I played as him in a tekken arcade cabinet, making him the first 3d-fighter i ever played as. And he is still as awesome as he was then.

I don't remember which tekken game it was, actually. And i don't remember anything but playing as the cat-headed guy and him being awesome.

Alex confirmed for Street Fighter X Tekken!

in the background of the dinosaur stage, anyway.

Regardless, this is the first time he's appeared at all in a game in around a decade. And if memory serves, Tron showed up in the background of a stage in Mv C 3 before she was confirmed playable, so there's always a chance.

Necro-ing for a bunch of Ling questions:

1. Anyone know Ling's best standing punisher? My thoughts go to 2,1 but 2 hits high and whiffs a lot. Same for 1,d+2.

2. I've noticed that f+3,1,1+2 becomes inconsistent the moment you have juggle filler exceeding 3 hits and when you go slightly off axis. Any other bound enders after RD 2,1, ff+1, B! ? ff~AOP u/f+3,3 is too hard for me to do.

3. General help on safe moves would be appreciated.

Miguel and his Burla:

The best of the three of 'em, and the safest.

For real. He autoblocks if he's hit while he's walking and laughing.

Kuma/Panda's Fatal Wind, a zero range fart I can't find a video for.

And, I think, some of the Jacks' Windup Punch, once the count gets to 3.

Just about everybody's got a flashy unblockable with a ton of startup that could OHKO on a counter hit, but only those three are guaranteed to be.

Oh! The robot subbboss Nancy has... two, I think, if you're counting her.

Why does Tekken not have its own Awesome Music page?

I'm a bit too lazy to retype everything here, but there's some new TTT2 footage that's been circulating around the web for a few weeks (major spoiler warning). You can see it here, via the links I provided at the bottom of the page.

So I've never played any of the Tekken games, but I'm interested in checking them out.

The only fighting games I've ever played competently are Soul Calibur 1 & 2. All the other ones I've played (Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance/Deception & Street Fighter 4), I've been lucky to make it through a single characters story without continuing a few times.

I can get my hands on Tekken 1 - 4, should I bother and if so, with which of those four?

Probably 3 and the original Tag. The first game and, to a lesser extent, 2 haven't aged well. T1 is practically an antique by modern standards and it can be somewhat janky in play. 4 is controversial due to its over-reliance on walled stages and shifts in heights in certain arenas, not to mention the low headcount and stuff like Jin's moveset reshuffling. 3 is usually seen as the pinnacle of the series; it plays fast, it's not too hard to pick up, inputs are usually responsive, and you have elements like side-stepping coming from and center, whereas Tag refines the gameplay mechanics found in 3 while bringing back most of the cast from the first two games who skipped out on 3.

Oh, wait. You're just looking at the numbered games. Then yeah, go for 3.

I played 3 first, it was fun though not my favorite 3D fighter. I sort of liked what little I played of Dark Resurrection. How's Tekken 6?

Haven't played it yet (plan to pick it up the next time I'm home), but it looks much more juggle-centric. Tag 2 seems to follow a similar notion.

Does anyone have any tips for a Tekken noob? So far I've mostly resorted to button mashing. :/ Being used to Street Fighter, I'm definitely finding the massive movelists to be pretty overwhelming.

Well a lot of Tekken players tend to rely on their favorite pool of 12-20 moves anyway since the mind can only retain so much. It's perfectly fine to just mash for a while with a character until you start seeing moves you like.

Quite a few Tekken-matches involve both fighters trying to start a juggle as soon as possible without really worrying about the more situational moves (i.e. Marduk's special grabs, certain parries or Dragunov's Clipping Sweep). You'll probably start to notice certain trends in a player's style as you watch combo-videos (certain moves just have far superior priority or speed than others). This is the Tekken equivalent of a bread n' butter combo in Street Fighter (but because the move libraries in Tekken are so much larger, these can vary heavily by player). You just have to find your groove; I mainly started getting competent with Steve because I like boxing the most of any martial art.

Speaking of Steve, I've recently fallen in love with his Peekaboo Stance (both kick buttons + forward). Before I generally spammed the Wildman Combo 1 (down/right-punch + left punch + right punch) on enemies that attack low (because Steve tends to hit high to emphasize his being juggle-crazy). Peekaboo has him crouch so low that opponents don't see it coming, so it rarely fails. Sometimes I mess up and hit Cyclone (both kick buttons) instead, but other than that it's a great stance.

More Juggle centric gameplay?

...

I'll pass then, thanks. I like my fights to feel like fights, not circus acts <_<

...

but that's kind of unfair. I'll try it out one day in full.

I'm pretty much a casual Tekken player. I liked all of them so far though Tekken 3 was my favourite. I look foward to the Tekken Tag 2 and playing around with it!
