...Huh. I just noticed that the page image for Can't Get Away with Nuthin' is exactly what Reef Blower is supposed to be.
Maybe you're right... Can't Get Away with Nuthin' seems to include instances where a character does something minor and suffers unrealistically huge and sudden consequences, without this being the result of getting caught by someone.
"If it ain't broke, don't fix it. And even if it is broke, just ignore it and maybe it'll be sort of OK — like the environment."Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't this trope also involve when there's swift and immediate retribution for the action regardless of whether or not it was known that the action was wrong... or indeed, whether or not the action actually is wrong? If so, I don't think it should be merged into Can't Get Away with Nuthin' - because the victims to this trope wouldn't even know that they are doing something that one would need to get away with.
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster. That's just a The Same But More Specific variant, though.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Bump...
Currently reading a Sci-Fi Dystopian Murder Mystery Forbidden Romance Adventure Thriller In Space. Your argument is invalid.Looks like a cut to me.
I was gonna suggest a rename for this one, but then I saw this thread had already been made, and it looks like a cut is in order. I'm fine with that. It seems like a case of The Same But More for Cant Get Away With Nothing.
This one looks like it may be ready to call. Cut and move examples is at +14 (yeas:21 nays:7) 3.00 : 1, rename is at +3 (yeas:15 nays:12) 1.25 : 1, and merge is at +3 (yeas:6 nays:3) 2.00 : 1.
Speaking words of fandom: let it squee, let it squee.Calling it. Go ahead and move the examples, then cut list. Remember to list this thread in the cut reason.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickThe crowner says to move the examples to Disproportionate Retribution or All Crimes Are Equal, but there's only a couple of examples that belong under either of those. I could put a few of them in Can't Get Away with Nuthin', where they actually fit, despite what the crowner says. But since there's only eleven examples total, I thought I'd list them here and see what people think:
- Seinfeld - obscure reference, don't know
- Fawlty Towers - Can't Get Away with Nuthin'
- Frasier - Can't Get Away with Nuthin' (I think)
- Donald Duck - Disproportionate Retribution
- Futurama - Can't Get Away with Nuthin'
- Angry Beavers - X Just X
- Sponge Bob Squarepants - X Just X (despite being the trope namer)
- King Of The Hill - Disproportionate Retribution
- South Park - All Crimes Are Equal
- Tom And Jerry/Looney Tunes - X Just X
- Regular Show - it's described in great detail, but I'm not sure what it's saying. I think this may be Can't Get Away with Nuthin', but I'm not even sure it's an example of any of these. Sounds more like Normal Activities Have Bizarre Consequences.
Comments? Suggestions? Am I misunderstanding something? (Other than the Regular Show entry.)

Speaking words of fandom: let it squee, let it squee. It wouldn't surprise me if some of the examples belong on Can't Get Away with Nuthin' - I see no problem moving examples that only fit on there to said page (though I imagine at least some examples will overlap between that and the other tropes involved).
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster. Are there any more examples that need sorting or can I cutlist this?
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickI didn't actually move any examples—I was hoping for some feedback—and at this point, I'm not going to be able to because I'm moving and will only have access via my phone.

Speaking words of fandom: let it squee, let it squee. There has been a request to lock this page, is it ready?
Well, it hasn't been cut yet.
Rhymes with "Protracted."It's been cut. Close the thread.
Crown Description:
What would be the best way to fix the page?
I say we just merge it with Can't Get Away with Nuthin'.
Seems based on one line's used of the word "caught" but which occurs within many other lines talking about particular catastrophic results, an ensuing disaster and general bad things, with many of the examples having nothing to do with being caught and the tropes basically saying one is the other Played for Laughs and Played for Laughs is an established "not a real reason to split".
Considering that and considering the lack of anything that deals in retribution, putting it into anything else seems foolhardy.
