Can we split Negima!? and Negima_? Right now the manga and first anime are pretty much monopolizing Negima page even though Negima!? and its companion manga Negima Neo share very little with the main manga except for the setting and characters (Some completely AU or completely Flanderdized.)

Negima is an ongoing Tropprific fan service comedy that Genre Shifts into an Action/Comedy while Negima? is a No Fanservice gag series akin to Pani Poni Dash but ''on more crack'' and Deranged Animation with a companion Negima Neo is a 70 chapter manga based on Negima? (which I have not read.)

They rarely use the same tropes and when they do its almost always in a different way.

Question though can the new custom title system handle "Negima!?" vs "Negima!"? The punctuation is the key thing in separating the series. (There is also "Negima!!" live action series but that hasnt made it across the pond in any way.)

Didn't you already make a thread on this and we decided a split was okay along the lines of Negima and Negima Neo?

It was like 6 months ago (and has since been purged) I bumped it a couple of times then but the thread just died besides the two of us.

I really couldn't make the page because I have not read Negima Neo.

I am planning on going though the anime though for a trope hunt though.

Sorting out the stuff that belongs to Negima!? or Negima Neo shouldn't be hard, since we just need the tropes that demonstrably don't occur in the manga and first anime.

While we're at it, we should go ahead and sort those two out. Main.Mahou Sensei Negima should be a disambiguation page, while Anime.Mahou Sensei Negima would be the first anime and Manga.Mahou Sensei Negima would be the manga. The manga is the only one of the four still growing, so once we get the other three sorted out, it will greatly reduce the amount of curating the page needs overall.

And while we're at it, all those parentheses around the examples need to go, and we need to pare down some of the example lists. A lot of tropes occur so frequently that we only need to list a couple major occurances, such as with Everyone Remembers the Stripper or Clothing Damage, to name two Raso and I discussed in the Media/Anime thread.

And someone needs to read Neo. Its only like 8 volumes.

I dont know if a disambiguate page will work here the first anime has quite a bit in common with the manga with the exception of the Adaptation Decay... where its complete crap.

Negima and Negima? pages would be good enough (like the way Railgun was made.) Sorting 3300 wicks would not be easy to do for that.

The Adaptation Dye-Job page Mahou Sensei Negima might be a little lost though.

I really want to sort them out, the first Anime is almost an afterthought at this point. But that may just be me liking specificity.

Also me not caring about the first anime at all.

Edit: Hah! I'd never seen the Adaptation Dye-Job page.

First anime doesn't really need a page. And does it really need a disambiguation page? Honestly, everyone really links to the main manga. Just have the main page include a link to Negima Neo.

I don't see why the anime doesn't need its own page. The fact that its over and done with makes it fairly easy to make.

But I'm not going to make a huge issue out of it. The important part is separating out Negima!? and Negima Neo, and cleaning up the examples.

I said this in the original thread on the matter, but I'm completely unfamiliar with the Neo continuity apart from what I've picked up in the thread. So I won't be able to help with that.

As for the first anime, I don't think it's really different enough to warrant its own page. It certainly stops earlier, but the only real differences are Kotaro is gone, Yue's romance subplot was shoved up and the episodes leading up to the gecko ending. And Sayo's awesome episode that keeps me from being able to hate the anime, but that doesn't deserve its own page.

I bought the 5th DVD of the series simply because of that episode. It totally deserves its own page!

...but whatever, I don't care enough to do it by myself, so I'll just go along.

And goddammit, has seriously no one read Negima Neo?

Ah, jeez. I guess I'll take the hit, I've been meaning to get them anyway *orders the first six volumes, for as cheap as he can on Amazon*. Though the last volume isn't out till June. But whatever.

Alright, I just removed all the Parentheses from the first folder of tropes, and added in colons instead.

Also removed the Christmas Cake entry because...no.

This woman might be over 25 and appears single! She must be Christmas Cake!

Negima does have one genuine example of Christmas Cake, though. Not that she ever appears.

[up]

Or has ever invoked her Christmas Cake status. But yeah, she would qualify if she got enough screentime. Assuming she doesn't have a boyfriend. She could!

Wait Asuna Christmas Cake?... WTF...

[up][up]Shizuna or Touko? *

We dont have a character entry for Touko though so maybe it should stay on the main page.

I noticed Nutmeg doesn't have a character entry either. No reason we can't add them. I almost did a Nutmeg entry just now, but I'm not in a good place for extensive research at the moment.

I added a Touko entry, but if possible I'd really prefer we moved any discussion not having to do with the split to the main thread on the manga forum.

Oh geez, and loose it in that mess?

I think we should keep discussion of the actual entry here, and leave that thread for discussion of the content.

Arha Since: Jan, 2010
#18: Apr 4th 2011 at 12:55:50 AM

Well aren't we pessimistic? It's not impossible to get the thread to talk about stuff you want to talk about, you know. Hell, you could even just say 'hey what are some tropes that apply to Nutmeg' and people could say 'she worked as Mission Control and is a Meganekko.' Or if it was Touko they'd suggest the tropes I listed for her already.

But if you really want to continue talking about it here, then I'm not really sure what point there is in making an entry for Nutmeg in the first place. It's like making one for Vargas, only even more obscure since people at least remember who Vargas is even if not by name.

What? No, I wasn't going to start a discussion about Nutmeg here. I was going to make an entry on my own time when I have access to my copies of the manga, which I notably don't right now.

I guess I should get a sandbox started for Negima!?

But I still dont have a clue on how we can name the page with Negima and Negima!?.

Negima! is Mahou Sensei Negima, while Negima!? is just...Negima

A tad confusing, perhaps, but we can lead the article off with a "if you are looking for the Mahou Sensei Negima Manga, click HERE" sort of thing.

...We will have to adjust the custom titles, it seems.

Well the stats for the Negima page are

Mahou Sensei Negima found in: 3123 articles, excluding discussions.

This title has brought 1,374 people to the wiki from non-search engine links since 20th FEB '09.

  • Main/Magi Magister Negi
On 0 page(s).
  • Main/Magister Negi Magi
On 5 page(s).
  • Main/Negima
On 242 page(s).

A lot of people use Negima as short hand for the full title even Ken Akamatsu does this in the manga itself. [1]

Only 242 wicks isn't bad, actually. Thats something we could probably reasonably clean up.

Or, we can put Negima!? in the Anime/MahouSenseiNegima namespace, since we aren't going to do a separate page for the first anime or the OADs.

[up][up] Negima isn't simply a short hand name for the series, that's actually the official title of the English translation (well, technically it's Negima!: Magister Negi Magi, but you know what I mean). People familiar with the series through official releases rather than Perfectly Legal Means could easily get confused.

Call the other page Negima Neo. No one's using that.
