In my experience, people weren't against it simply for it's own sake, but because the old EU was positively clogged with people trying to work every single character imaginable into some epic connection with the main narrative, muddling the universe as every writer tried to get their stories and agendas out there.
But generally speaking, fandoms tend to like connections between different parts of a franchise when its down well, and Star Wars is no exception. Something minor like this that doesn't actually change any of the characters involved, especially, is the kind of thing you tend to get requests for because its great for world building but otherwise does little.
Rex, at the very least, didn't know about Vader before Yavin. Whether he would know by the time ROTJ concluded is anyone's guess.

"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.Literally the only problem I have with the Rex retcon (Rexcon?) is that it brings up the question of if he ever talked to Luke.
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?We see a bunch of Rex, but what ever happened to Cody? You know, Obi-wan's go to clone commander?
IIRC he trains Stormtroopers now.
Actually, that would make a pretty good plot. A Rex arc with him vs a clone who never overthrew Order 66 and is 100% loyal to the Empire, maybe even another throwback plot to the war serial stories of Clone Wars.

"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain. Not sure if this was posted here yet:
WARNING: (Minor) spoilers.
I've always wanted a Rex vs. Cody encounter in the Imperial era, it'd be a perfect example of To Be Lawful or Good.
About Hera on Endor - they could always say that aliens, especially twi'leks were expensive to portray back in the OT era, but there were more assault croups offscreen. It makes sense that the Alliance wouldn't just send one squad to take down DS-II's shield. They know what happened with Rogue One, after all.

Again, I find it more likely that she was piloting during the actual battle itself. Because she's a pilot. So Rex is ground side, Hera is space side, and this short presumably takes place during the mop up operations.

Whelp, looks like Hera is going to be a sole survivor.
Someone pointed out there's a line in one of the Aftermath books that suggests Sabine also survives.
Huh, I'm surprised it's ending with season 4. I would have at least expected it to continue until right before R1 and ANH. I wonder why they're ending it there. It doesn't seem like it's running out of steam.
Also, Chopper at the very least survives to Rogue One.
Because you don't end something when it's running out of steam. You end it when it's on top.
And because, as I've been saying, you don't need to bring the show all the way to Rogue One. That's not the story of the Ghost. That's the story of other people, that the Ghost happens to be a part of. There are venues better than television for telling their role in it.

I was surprised that there was no big hype moment in the trailer. We see Bo-Katan and Rukh several times, but there's nothing like Thrawn's reveal last year; a moment that's treated like it's a Big Deal.
Rebels has been my favourite show since the beginning. Fingers crossed that the final season is the best.
While that is true they also kept The Clone Wars going for a lot longer. That show had an even stricter timeline so it's not like they can't fudge things a bit to keep from catching up to the movies.
I would argue that it did not have a stricter timeline. It had less time to play around in, but it moved at its own pace, whereas Rebels has been very clear that one season equals one year.
Hot damn Kallus is dead sexy in a Rebel uniform. I've a feeling this season will be a bit of a blood bath, especially with the way Hera was narrating and with something Sam Witwer supposedly accidentally let slip the other day off camera.
Although with this being confirmed the final season I'm actually less annoyed at Forces of Destiny now.

Oh God! Natural light!Seconding that. God DAMN Kallus looks good
Say to the others who did not follow through You're still our brothers, and we will fight for youKeep in mind this is just something I read on the Star Wars subreddit's discord, so take with a grain of salt, but according to two or three people who are supposedly at Celebration:
Sam Witwer and someone else, may have been Filoni, were talking with fans when somebody brought up Hera surviving through Rogue One. Supposedly Sam muttered something to the effect of "she's the only the one" and then he and the other guy really quickly tried to talk it back in another context and change the subject. Keep in mind, Rex has been all but confirmed to be on the Endor assault team, we see Chopper in Rogue One, and there have been hints here and there about Sabine's art that could indicate her survival as well.
So if the story of what he said is true, it's entirely possible that A) he was making a joke that didn't go over as well as he hoped, B) people simply didn't hear everything he said/misheard him, or C) he was speaking in a context that wasn't immediately apparent, i.e. She and Chopper are the only non-film Rebels characters who we officially know survived until/through the movie; or she survived unlike the Rogue One team.
Or the entire thing was made up.

Like TCW, Rebels started kinda so-and-so, but became really awesome over time.

...isn't this exactly the kind of retconning or unnecessary plot connection that fans used to get all up in arms about before the reboot?
but HOW?
