Isn't this subjective?: Dying Moment Of Awesome

How might this trope overlap/connect with Obi-Wan Moment and Face Death with Dignity (another set of tropes with an old TRS thread)?

So the goal of creating an objective version of this trope is 'going out in a blaze of glory'? How about we call it that? 'A character wants dramatic/glorious/etc end to their life'. It would be related to Death Seeker, who wants this, but would apply to someone that's NOT suicidal.

[up] Face Death with Dignity says its 'choosing execution instead of running from it'. that it was more about characters who had done evil. What I got from the definition was that it was supposed to be 'somber' not 'awesome'.

Obi-Wan Moment feels similar to it but more voluntary. Like a mindset or way of life. Something for the wise mentor or Zen Survivor to do.

The Way I see it: FDWD is a criminal accepting punishment for their crimes and OWM is The Hero's mentor who was killed by the criminal.

The way I see it, this is a relatively high-level supertrope for all of those various subtropes.

Interestingly, we don't actually have a trope named Blaze Of Glory.

That sounds like the objective version. Someone trying to die awesomely (without a death wish) sounds objective.

[up][up][up][up] So where does Do Not Go Gentle fit in?

My favored solution is to leave the page as a supertrope-index. Keep it as the supertrope for those other tropes about dying awesomely and use it to index them, like we do for, like, MacGuffin or whatever. And examples that fit in one or more subtropes should be moved accordingly to those subtropes.

This isn't really a subjective thing and it's not about gushing; it doesn't belong on Sugar Wiki. I'm not convinced there's a need to rename, either.

I like that idea but its in the negatives. The front two have switched leads twice so far. Should we do both?

[up] Neither of them have consensus. That said, it probably is worth noting that they're not mutually exclusive.

Still need consensus here.

This crowner technically has a consesus, and it's been stable for a couple of days. On the other hand, there are only twelve votes in all (compared to the thirty-two on the second option), and the results have shifted back and forth quite a lot until now.

The solution is simple: Rename the trope to Blaze Of Glory, and trim the examples, so that's it's no longer subjective. Replace "Awesome" with "Spectacular", and cull all examples where nothing that be objectively described as "spectacular" happens.

For instance: Jack Sparrow facing the Kraken head-on? Awesome, but not Spectacular.

Buffy jumping through a Negative Space Wedgie to prevent the End of the World? Spectacular.

Uh, about the leading option: it says leave as a supertrope/index. Is that just another "do nothing" option (the one that outright says it is failing)? I'm not quite sure what it's proposing.

I believe that means it should be an index of Dying moments that are awesome with other tropes like Do Not Go Gentle and The Last Dance and the objective version of this trope being sub-tropes. We'd have to split the examples that are on the page right now between the subtropes.

The superindex option has an 11 point lead and a 3:1 ratio. How about we call this?

Calling in favour of supertrope/index.

A'ight, it's already doing its indexing, and I've just added a note at the end of the description saying to add examples in the subtropes instead, as well as an even bigger commented-out note saying the same thing a little louder. Anything else to do here?

If you're supposed to add examples to the subtropes, why does the page still have examples? I'm a little confused.

[up] Examples that fit in a subtrope go on the subtrope page, but not all examples fit into a subtrope. The main page has examples that are not covered by the subtropes.

Hmm. Well, I still don't think this trope is objective, but as long as it's not used as an argument to try to shoehorn the other Crowning Moments tropes back into objective status, I suppose there's nothing I can really do...
