So Eli is pretty much Liquid, right? I admit that this is pretty much the one thing that has me intrigued about this game.
I wonder if this will tie in at all with his dialogue in MGS 1.
Liquid: That's right! I'm just the leftovers of what they used to make you. Can you understand what it's like to know that you're garbage since the day you were born!? But...I'm the one father chose.[...] Love!? It's hate!! He always told me I was inferior and now I'll have my revenge!!
Or if Kojima will retcon this as surely as he did Big Boss being in his late fifties during the early 1970s.

I like to think Liquid isn't very bright.
I mean, after his biology fail, I believe he thought Big Boss was 60 years old when they first met. Or probably they are going to retcon Metal Gear Solid 2 quotes like they did with Para-Medic gender. I like what they did with the digital novel, which is actually Better Than Canon in my eyes, being more consistent (except for Solid Snake role. That ending solves nothing)
And yeah, Eli is pretty much Liquid at this point. As pointed out by Art Eater, the name comes from a biblical character, David brother. As you know, David became the king of Israel while Eli was forgotten. Sounds like Liquid to me, I mean, put him some glasses and he is Master Miller from Metal Gear solid.

To win, you need to adapt, and to adapt, you need to be able to laugh away all the restraints. Everything holding you back.Oh that thing about Big Boss being in his late fifties when LET happened was retconned away ages ago. Kojima does that a lot since he never plans ahead. Every new game he has to retcon something from the previous games. It all started witH MGS 1 conveniently forgetting that Big Boss somehow stole all the nukes in the world.
Also I can't imagine the digital novel being better than MGS 2... I haven't seen it though. Maybe I should. How is it more consistent though?
EDIT:
Snake kills Solidus? The fuck is the point of that?
edited 12th Jul '14 11:18:09 PM by Nikkolas
Apparently the writer loved the External Gazer fight where Solidus fought against Snake, without weapons, that decided to adapt it in the comic
A shame, because that comic adaptation is great, with characters more fleshed out (Dead Cell) the dull surprise is gone (but they gone to the other extreme, again, YMMV) Solidus and Raiden relationship being better (despite Solidus being an complete asshole in this versión, still enjoyable to read).
Too bad that Snake killing Solidus makes Raiden conflict and point in the story pointless. I mean, Solidus is not even Snake brother, unlike Liquid (which is a twin born from the same mother).

To win, you need to adapt, and to adapt, you need to be able to laugh away all the restraints. Everything holding you back. How is Solidus' and Raiden's relationship better? The one thing I notice about this Raiden is he's preemptively channeling Revengeance Raiden. He's GROWLY AND ANGRY AND MOUTHS OFF TO THE BAD GUYS.
Raiden in MGS 2 was just kinda...confused and broken so he didn't say much to resist Solidus. I think that made sense.
edited 12th Jul '14 11:46:50 PM by Nikkolas
Let's just say that Solidus actually calling Raiden at the beginning of the comic, trying to making him remember his Ripper past, and treating him like a bastard child, sounds better than "Where do I know him from?"
I mean, I never hated Raiden in the original game, but his personality was, kinda dull. In the comic he is more sarcastic, more upbeat, angry, I like that. How he reacts to Solidus saying "I was the one who killed your parents" is actually an strong emotional moment. I mean, in the original game he just did an "" face and totally forgot about that piece of dialogue.
Again, YMMV.

To win, you need to adapt, and to adapt, you need to be able to laugh away all the restraints. Everything holding you back.Hm, fair enough. You make a good point about introducing, or hinting at, their relationship sooner be nice. I also won't deny that I'm a sort of "purist" who generally dislikes adaptations. So the fact everything just "feels wrong" isn't helping me enjoy this.
It is fun though. John Cygan is hamming it up even more than in the original. In fact, this whole thing feels hammier than a regular MGS game. How do you out-ham MGS???
Also as much as I love MGS 2, Raiden's :O face wheN Solidus says "BTW Killed your parents kthx" is a perfect representative of how most people playing the game felt. It was so...abrupt and kinda pointless. I mean I think there was a point but man did it come off sounding really stupid.

Aside from the standard answer, I'm unsure.
...I don't know man, but Solidus became my favorite Solid Snake-Saga villain after that comic. Just so fun to watch!
What you say is true about the :O face Anyway, I like to think of MGS 2 story as Broad Strokes. I like the comic, but the ending and the coronel are better in the game.

To win, you need to adapt, and to adapt, you need to be able to laugh away all the restraints. Everything holding you back. This is related to MGSV?
Akira Toriyama (April 5 1955 - March 1, 2024).Well, we were talking about Eli/Liquid, but the conversation went to another place. Im sorry.
To win, you need to adapt, and to adapt, you need to be able to laugh away all the restraints. Everything holding you back.In Ground Zeroes how much wiggle room do I have to S rank missions? Like do I need the "No Reflex" bonus? Or things like no kills and all prisoners rescued and etc?
#IceBearForPresidentThere's a little bit. I could do most without the no reflex bonus but snatching up all the prisoners is a huge help.
Time is probably your biggest thing though, the faster you can do it the better.
Oh really when?Another thing to keep in mind is that the no alerts/kills is no longer an automatic fail. Some missions require you to kill a target or a ton of guards in order to help an agent escape, so if you're fast or good enough with the secondary objectives (ex. prisoners) then kills won't matter in the end.
Also, one mission in particular is very generous with what constitutes "completion." Once you know where your objective is you can just restart it and the guards do 90% of the work for you. Easiest S Rank ever.

#IceBearForPresidentBingo. I laughed so damn hard when I found out the cassette is there even if you don't interrogate the guard.
PSN ID: FateSeraph | Switch friendcode: SW-0145-8835-0610 Congratulations! She/TheyAnybody else imagine that Phantom Pain's post-credits scene will feature Sutherland and Hayter, as Big Boss and Solid Snake respectively, with the former instructing the latter to, "Infiltrate the fortress Outer Heaven and destroy the final weapon, Metal Gear!"
Akira Toriyama (April 5 1955 - March 1, 2024).Not gonna lie, I would totally jizz my pants if that happened. But that would be one hell of a Distant Finale.
PSN ID: FateSeraph | Switch friendcode: SW-0145-8835-0610 Congratulations! She/TheyKojima on nuclear ordinance and the cultural dominance of the United States. His stated goals with MGSV are refreshing, considering even Metal Gear Rising had more political commentary than either Peace Walker or MGS 4.

...Eh, RT isn't exactly a paragon of journalistic quality, so I doubt they'd even really care where exactly that particular image came from. Though I do wonder if they actually realized that was footage from a videogame or honestly believed it to be from an actual war.

Hey guys, sorry to bother you again about stuff with Chico, but does anyone by any chance speak japanese? I think this video, specifically at about 30:20, might hold the answers to Chico's fate.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tMMUDdP72R4
It came out before GZ release, and the way people are talking about it, it makes me think Chico survived GZ, but will go through even more rough stuff in TPP, specially since they say Big Boss is cruel to Chico and that Chico stands, or will stand, firm in the game. But I'm not sure. Can some please translate if possible? Thanks.

Well it IS the most intensive PS 3 and Xbox 360 game.
Will have to check if the same things happen to my game when I play tonight. I had those kind of problems(slowdown, pop-in etc) in Go W 3 around the time my first PS 3 gave up on me.
