I like the Freelancer stuff well enough. I mean, the whole Red Vs Blue setup seems to exist because of the Freelancers, and most of the 'serious plot' issues seem to have stemmed from them even at the start of the series.
I can understand the other two issues, but I'm willing to withhold judgment on those until the season itself actually comes out. I could see a couple of ways to involve the original group (which itself is linked to the involvement of humor) that don't require massive Retcons
. The Reconstruction trailer was pretty serious, but I like that season. For what it's worth, during the clips at the end, there are apparent shots of both teams.
Personally, I think the trailer looked awesome. They really went all-out with the animation for it, though I imagine the season itself isn't going to keep that up consistently.
I like that the plot got a bit more serious, but, to borrow someone else's words, it's starting to run up against Kudzu Plot
issues. I know that some stuff is deliberately left up to the viewer to work out, but I'm starting to feel a little too
much of the big picture is left only in general hints. A prequel might be a remedy, though in my experience, those have an odd tendency to make everything even more confusing.
I also feel like Tucker's alien plot needs some follow-up. It looked like it was going to be really important in Recreation, but it sort of fizzled out without getting much of a resolution.
Also, just because this post isn't long enough, I should point out that there have been topics for the series, but they presumably got deleted due to inactivity.
Text I feel is necessary to append to every post.
