I think Just A Name is better, since we can then use it for when it's just the name of the character.

I'm bad, and that's good. I will never be good, and that's not bad. There's no one I'd rather be than me.

For some reason, X Just X is no longer on any index, shouldn't it still be on Administrivia?

For the subject of rename/redirects, what about Example Just Example?

[up]That dosen't run of the tounge so well. It might work as a redirect.

I like Just A Name.

And, to put my own suggestion out there, Name-Only Example.

How about This Applies? It'd work for both trope examples and work examples.

[up] That's the opposite of what we want. We want to discourage this behaviour. Not encourage it.

Dont Just Say The Name, Explain Your Examples.

^ I thought of a few phrases like this, too, but I figured they'd be too close to Please Elaborate and would have more potential for abuse than phrases that simply identify what it is that's a problem, like what Just A Face And A Caption or Just A Name do.

Or People Sit On Chairs. Yes, this is true. I think part of the reason that TV Tropes doesn't have more rules is that people don't seem capable of understanding the rules we have.

I'm going to cast a vote for Explain Your Examples. It's short and explains exactly what the problem is.

For the record, the Trope Renaming Guidelines do actually fit here, since it's creating misuse.

Want to rename a trope? Step one: if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

[up][up][up][up] Good point, and that's also true for many other suggestions in the thread. They sound like a reply to something, and they would be used as such.

Fan Myopic Entry avoids that as well. Not to mention explaining that the source of the problem is not just the entry being too short, but the assumption that the others are already familiar with the work.

Most of the other suggested titles seem to just urge tropers to put some random Word Cruft after the entries, so they will be longer, as if that alone would make them good, or something.

The message we are aiming for, shouldn't simply be "always remember to put something after the trope titles", but "always try to explain your entries for non-fans"

I agree with Fan Myopic Entry, it would seem to be the most descriptive of the problem, as well as being unlikely to collect massive amounts of misused potholes.

Fan Myopic Entry works pretty well if it's just the name of the work, but not quite as well if it's just the name of a trope.

Rhymes with "Protracted."

First off, X Just X is sort of on an index already... depends on just how you look at the Permanent Red Link Club. I don't think it needs to go on any pages beyond that.

But speaking of said club, "Fan Mypoic Entry" and the like really sound much like Please Elaborate, which was permanently redlinked because, basically, people would use it in lieu of actually repairing poor examples. I don't see how recreating it under a different name is going to benefit anything.

Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster.

Bump/semi-necro: Please Elaborate is a full sentence, something you might say in conversation. Fan Myopic Entry isn't, so the risk for the same kind of misuse as before should be much lower.

I'd love to have a tag like Explain Your Examples. It is so annoying doing a YKTTW and you aren't being given enough information to figure out if the example being proposed actually meets the trope you are trying to make.

Of course, what is really annoying (and I must admit I've made the mistake myself at least once or twice) is when people write things like "Is Bob from Xen Tale Trek an example?" What makes anyone think I've seen Xen Tale Trek?

The problem with a title like Just A Name is that it could easily be misused in the same way as X Just X could. There are times when simply the name of a work or character is sufficient information. For instance, you don't need to explain why Bugs Bunny is an Alliterative Name. You can tell just by looking at it. We need a name that makes it clear that this is only for examples where lack of elaboration is actually a problem, which is why I like Fan Myopic Entry.
