Worst scene in Uzumaki for me was the snail transformations. One of the runner-up ones was near the end when they are running for the lake and the reporter gets stuck in one of the huge tangled masses of bodies.

And another vote for fingernails in Higurashi.

FMA and Madoka have already been mentioned, so I'm going to bring up Ga Rei Zero. The end of the first episode killing off the Decoy Cast. You WON'T see this coming unless you were spoiled recently.

And another vote for fingernails in Higurashi.

Oh god, that reminds me — Monster. Poor Grimmer! ;_;

Uzumaki progressively gets narmier and narmier, because it fails to suspend disbelief—why didn't they LEAVE WHEN THEY HAD THE CHANCE AND EVERYONE KNEW THE TOWN WAS CURSED AFTER SEVERAL DEADLY AND SQUICKY EXPERIENCES?—so, the most horrifying chapters are the beginning.

The chapter with the phobic wife was the most horrifying for me. "I don't want to become a spiral."

Hmmm, probably gonna second the fingernail scene from Higurashi. Especially because of the lead in. My thought process:

"The worst was yet to come? You're being melodra-OH WHAT THE FUCK.

Anyone who assigns themselves loads of character tropes is someone to be worried about.

Neon Genesis Evangelion has one horrifying moment after another, mostly starting with the fight with Bardiel. How do you even pick the most horrifying out of those?

The most horrifying moment that I know of in anime would have to be the scene in Barefoot Gen after the atomic bomb is dropped. This is far worse than anything in Evangelion since it depicts actual historical events.

Nuh uh, screw that. The most nightmarish thing from Rebuild IMO is that training simulator... brain... Eva... thing. No explanation, no real significance, it's just there.

What the hell is it?

Speaking of Monster, what what Johan does to Milosh ranks pretty highly on my list. It bothered me way more than the fingernail scene.

@Pika: You mean the one where Grimmer's fingertips are clipped with nail clippers? That one had me clenching my fists! I couldn't clip my own nails for a week!

Umineko. Three Words: "Happy Halloween, Maria." The censoring did not help things.

Did you just spoil something for me? I've been meaning to watch Bakemonogatari forever. DID YOU JUST FREAKING SPOIL THE DAMN SHOW FOR ME AAAARRRRGHHHHHHHHHHH

;___;

EDIT: As a side note, the only thing I know about Bakemonogatari is Renai Circulation, and... I was not expecting that kind of anime from that kind of opening. Is this a Shaft anime? It looks like a Shaft anime. It's a Shaft anime, isn't it?

[up][up]
The opening itself almost got nothing to do with the series. It's more like some scenes from a prequel.

But I'm glad to be the first to mention Naru Taru. Aki Hondas death... was evil. I'm sure I wouldn't like to die like that, with the callback to the test tube. You could really empathize with the panic she must have felt.

The entire first four episodes of Higurashi. It was the most intense and scariest arc in the series in my opinion.

Puella Magi Madoka Magica episode 10: the only time that I got fazed by the entire series.

[up] (sighs) Madoka Magica Madoka Magica Madoka Magica, I never watched the series yet but I'll be honest, I'm already getting tired of hearing about it. What is it, a next Haruhi Suzumiya or something? Of course, it must have a lot of outstanding quality about it to be that popular for at the first place, but seriously, it's getting a bit annoying.

No offense to you or any other fans of the series, sincerely.

^ It's projected to outsell Bakemonogatari.

It also already has 1/4th the number of posts about Haruhi ever on 2ch, and the show isn't over yet.

Didn't it pass up Haruhi on 2chan in sheer number of posts, or was that a projection? Either way, this shit is bananas.

Hmm. Anyone suppose that it will fall to Hype Backlash after a year or so? Guess I got to watch that if I have time. Hate the character design, though. While I'm not shallow enough to judge a series by it, but I'd prefer if it matches the, according to what I heard, tone of the series.
