@Clawshrimpy: Ah, the classic "I'm not as bad as 4chan" defence. Been a while since I've seen that one.

I guess it is.

[up][up]I don't hold any ill-will to anyone that likes Gurren Lagann or anything. I just don't like to be told I have no taste or that I'm guilty of Fandom Heresy for claiming to like Super Robot programs, yet dislike both the "classics" like Mazinger, and Gurren Lagann and EVA.

the 1990's Super Robot shows were able to interest me in ways most other S Uper Robot shows can't.

What's so terribly offensive about this? if you want pathological hate for Gurren Lagann, post a TTGL thread on /m/ sometime. I'm nowhere near as bad as that

So just because someone somewhere might have an even worse opinion than you that makes a suitable argument?

Someone already stated that this isn't 'm','b','q','z' or whatever the hell Four-Chan or whoever is known as, this is TV Tropes and we expect, nay, demand a civil and friendly fora. So far you have done nothing but piss people off and then play the blame-game whenever someone calls you out on it.

[up][up]it's not just other internet sites even, people dog me about Gurren Lagann in Real Life for god's sake! just because it hasn't happened here, doesn't mean it hasn't happened elsewhere.

[up][up]Well, yes, but that's a 'you reap what you sow' type thing. When you make yourself mockable, you get mocked.

[up]Well take that up with them, rather than strawmanning the hell out of us.

What does that have to do with the contents of my post? I'm sorry to hear that you are getting dogged even in Real Life but if you "debate" there as you do over the internet then I can't say I'm surprised.

Still there have been people in this thread riding me for disliking it in a more mocking way.

They were mocking you for the way you argue and present yourself, not because you don't like Gurren Lagann or because the fact you prefer The stuff in the 90s.

Honestly I think it wasn't the right thing to do to mock you, as it didn't help move the conversation forward, but everyone in this thread could stand to be a bit more civil.

Except for maybe Gilphon and some others. They've been pretty good about it.

[up][up][up]See, here's the problem. I strive to fit in in Real Life. so arguing and debating Gurren Lagann like I am here with people IRL might not be the best of ideas. IRL arguing can just be so much worse, you know? it's allready gotten dangerously heated in the past at my anime club here in Toledo.

Fair enough. Though I hope you value being yourself over fitting, though it's not to say the two are incompatible.

[up][up]I mean the "Hey it's that guy who claims to like giant robots but doesn't like Gainax" mocking has allready gotten pretty bad.

Examples of ways they've tried to shove The Church of Lord Kamina down my throat:

1. placing printout screencaps or fanart of Yoko or EVA characters where I will see it, because they know about my aversion to fanservice.

2. Constant deriding of my favorite shows, claiming that I cling to japanese Transformers ripoffs and get misty eyed with any show with a Kid Hero, to the point of accusing me of Shotacon. a Running Gag among the group is 'Shut up, Go-bot.'

3. they have made me sit through the show so many times it is not funny. afterwards I just try to relax and just watch Gao Gai Gar again on my computer to retain a sense of my own opinions and sanity.

Hopefull this serves as a possible explanation as to why I'm so bitter.

Truth is. I really shouldn't have given into temptation to vent. but I foolishly took the bait hook line and sinker, and for that I'm sorry. I think a lock would probably be appropriate at this point.

[up]I was hoping maybe kind of explaning about the atmosphere I was in when I watched the show would explain why my... take on the show was so negative and bitter and misinformed.

[up][up][up]If those people in your anime club treat you like that, perhaps you would be better for you to stop going. While that's a valid reason to be bitter, it would be better to try and not carry that bitterness here. We're all individuals, so there is no reason to treat us like the whole fandom at large.

However, I'm sorry too if I was ever rude to you during this thread.

[up][up]Yeah, I know I shouldn't have vented, and I went against my better judgement.

I've considered leaving the group, several times, but there is a person there I do connect with, and we can usually have a good conversation about Gundam's inconsistancies or a decent talk about what new model kit or toy we got, or what other mecha shows or Tokusatsu we've been watching (even if for me it's mostly 1990s stuff I pine for a tranlation of, like Mashin Wataru and it's sequels, which i still watch the RA Ws of occasionally.)... until the more annoying people show up.

Hmmmm. If that's the case, maybe you could just find one time to meet up with him or her and just have a time where the two of you can enjoy you're conversation. I mean you you have a car or some other method of transportation?

Actually, thinking about it, how old are you, if you don't mind me asking? If you're not comfortable answering that just tell me and I'll drop it.

[up]I'm in my early twenties. however, I do tend to act younger than I am. I don't feel very grown up, I still feel like a teenager most of the time. I'll even freely admit that I can be very immature, especially when I get defensive.

Oh, we have talked about it, it's just a matter of hashing out a good way to meet up.

Heh. I know the feeling. I'm 21 and I still feel like I'm 18. According to my Dad its just something you kinda grow into for most people.

I'd really suggest finding a different group though. Even though I enjoy Gurren Lagann, they sound like people I might find it hard to be around.

Well it's 4 in the morning, so I think I'm gonna hit the hey.

Good night.
