Write a story based on a picture - judges choice or personal choice, whatever.
Write a story based on a single trope.
"You've got your transmission and your live wire, but your circuit's dead." - Media@Silent Reverence
Wait, you mean like the difference in power sockets between, say, France and the US?
Because I would so write a story about the world saving McGuffin that must be charged, but isn't meant for the continental European power grid.
RE me suggesting something I have already suggested: My bad, I forgot I already threw that in last time. Never mind me then.
D:<
Well shame on you then, Leradny!

One of the hardest words to pronounce, but one of the most beautiful.
It means a look exchanged between two people that want something to happen, but are both afraid to be the one to initiate it.
One scene, told from the perspective of two or more people.
You could possible combine that with my idea.
My theme can fit into any plotline or genre that the writer wants. It's an exercise to develop character dynamics and the nuances that can be understood between characters—or not. Hell, one can think the scene is a tragic romance while another takes it as a wacky adventure.
Interesting idea Leradny. Any restrictions on the idea? Does the event have to be told in its entirety from both parties? How often does perspective have to switch? First person or third?
^^ Reminds me of this.
The scene must be told in its entirety from both (or all) parties. Other than that, it's pretty much got no limits.

I love that idea, Leradny! I usually write my stories with three POV protagonists anyways.
I quite like Lerandy's idea, it's a good way to explore character and also leaves us open to write about steampunk thrillers or Benzine Bicarbonate, or whatever else floats your proverbial boat.
@Leardny: So its suppossed to switch back and forth between characters or be told by all of them at once?
Hmmm... Leradny's idea. Multiple Third Person Point Of View. Challenging, yet amazingly flexible. I like it, because it could be used to give multiple perspectives on one event, just like history. Or A Song Of Ice And Fire.
If we do go through with this I recommend that if we go through with this theme that those who wish to participate should practice writing Third Person Point Of View. * Also I recommend that we do Leradny's idea in the summer, that way all those currently in school can focus their creative writing energies on the contest. We will need that spare time.
Someone I know is calling from the glacial mountains of my mind. He weaves tales of joy, tales of horror, and tales of tragedy together like poetry. Each narrative reflecting on the past as each foot advances to the future.
Has ADD, plays World of Tanks, thinks up crazy ideas like children making spaceships for Hitler. Occasionally writes them down.Well, the way I was thinking, stories would progress by some form of:
They might separate in the middle and leave an easy fill-in-the-blanks approach, or there might be an ambiguous quality to the conversation, or something.
Why is everyone talking about first and third person POV? It doesn't particularly matter.

Like I've said before, I'll go with the theme you guys decide upon, but I'll find a way incorporate Benzine Bicarbonate into the mix.

- Two characters switch roles or positions.
- A character or characters lose an attribute or characteristic. Distinct from Brought Down to Normal in that it doesn't have to be a superpower or ability, but possibly their great intellect, beauty, or even their emotions.
- Create a Grand Finale...to something that doesn't exist. It must make sense, and make the reader want to see the rest of the story.
So for the next contest we do Dreams, then for a summer contest we have Lera's Vantage Point style story. We be rollin good.
Sounds like a plan.
Oh and for those interested I found multiple viewpoints, third person limited, and first person viewpoint on Writing Excuses. I found them very informative. *
Well the reason I mentioned Third Person Limited was that it was the only viewpoint where I've read stories with multiple of them. * I suppose you can have 2 First Person Viewpoints, and the third person limited podcast mentioned it can work, but I haven't personally seen it done...
Wait a moment I have read a story with multiple First Person Viewpoints! Frankenstein! * I'm not done reading it yet, so Sssshhhhhh!!!

What about a story focused on the incompatibility between different nations's power plugs?
