Seriously, No Gun Safety or Screw Gun Safety sounds more feasible than I Just Shot Marvin in the Face

So it can't be changed? Darn. I always thought the redirects were few in words but direct.

I Just Shot Marvin in the Face found in: 259 articles, excluding discussions.

This title has brought 659 people to the wiki from non-search engine links since 20th FEB '09.

Technically it could be changed, but with those kind of numbers you'd have to show widespread misuse.

Both redirects are technically inaccurate. Accidental Weapons Discharge would be the most on the nose name.

Way back when this got pulled into TRS for a rename/redefine for being a catch all for any instance of gun safety violation, including a list, it was decided to split. The first thing that was done was UsefulNotes.Gun Safety was created. Shortly after, it was decided to split along the lines of "people use guns unsafely", "people that should know better use guns unsafely", "guns used unsafely for lulz" and "guns used unsafely and then go off possibly killing someone" with the names Reckless Gun Usage, You Fail Gun Safety Forever, Juggling Loaded Guns and then I Just Shot Marvin in the Face was used for the a discharge, because that was the trope that most fit the name.

Ah okay, thanks for the clarification.

I'd argue it could use a better name, but can't argue with wicks.

We went through and tried to clean up most of the wics, but we might have missed some, grab a sample if you want.

I'd like to point out that the article describes the trope as "not played for comedy" when this is absolutely not the case in the Trope Namer

Then that means the Trope Namer is not an example, something that gets cited as a strike against the name.

I've never seen the movie, so I'm neutral on that.

It's played for black comedy in Pulp Fiction. It's also rather sudden and jarring, in what I gather is an invocation of YMMV by the director. It can come across as funny or horrible, depending on the viewer. It might fit.

Want to rename a trope? Step one: if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

The "problem" with the trope namer is that it's Tarentino, for whom the dark, dramatic, and comic are often the same thing. With this one, he (1) shocks and horrifies us (he did just shoot Marvin in the face) (2) makes us laugh ("Why the f*** did you do that?"), and (3) sets up Vincent Vega as actually not that good of a hitman (besides his flagrant violations of gun safety in this scene, he...well...see the folder Film in Stupid Crooks). Since (1) and (3) are there—and definitely tie into the trope—it's definitely a good fit. And memorable. And perfectly understandable to anyone who has seen Pulp Fiction (which is a whole helluvalot of people) or has a familiarity with it via Memetic Mutation (which this is, although not to the same degree as "Do they speak English in What?", "Royale with Cheese," and that Bible verse).

This thread seems dead, can it get removed from the trope page please?

I rarely visit the forums to avoid the cynicism ooze.
