I always thought belly dancing was an Arabic-based art? The name is obviously western but they at least got that part right. As for names, that's part the course for Capcom. Not a whole lot of "Seans" in Brazil from what I know.

Now I just realized Rouge from Power Stone is themed off an ifrit, huh.

You're complaining about Pullum when this series has a Brazilian who's green skinned, wild haired and animalistic?

Here's something that I think may be fulfilled in Ultra. The new character is...

A Shotoclone. Learns Ansatsuken from the likes of Gouken. However, this new character will specialize in one branch no one else has tried (if they haven't): The Tatsumaki Senpuukyaku branch (Ryu specializes in Hadoken, Ken specializes in Shoryuken, I think Gouken and Akuma are masters on all branches, Sakura is just 'emulating without super harsh training', Dan is expelled and ended up making a 'parody', Sean is too much a newbie, we don't have a Tatsumaki representative yet).

So we will have a Shoto that specializes in Tatsumaki Senpuukyaku.

Bonus points if this Shoto is a woman.

Well, there's the pic of Retsu in a very recent 25th anniversary Street Fighter pic that includes several characters porting into USF 4 from SFXT, so yeah, maybe.

Belly dancing as we know it — i.e. sexually suggestive torso-shaking — is believed to have originated in Egypt and Anatolia, though "reliable evidence about its origins is scarce, and accounts of its history are often highly speculative" (quote from Wikipedia). And the name does not sound like anything except Latin, or some sort of pseudo-Hindu, neither of which are compatible with her origins or the fact that her Ambiguously Brown appearance suggests either African or South Asian origin.

You're complaining about Pullum when this series has a Brazilian who's green skinned, wild haired and animalistic?
Blanka at least has the excuse of being somehow "mutated" into his current state through some pseudo-scientific form of adaptive "evolution".

^^ So she's in the same boat as Elena name-wise, then? What with her using a fighting style that may or may not have originated in Africa, but certainly not Kenya, and in any case definitely not the more Brazilian form she uses. With an Italian name.

Street Fighter is notorious for not being culturally consistent when it comes to non-Japanese characters.

^ From Mexico, at that.

[up][up]Exactly.

Of course, maybe we should be complaining more about this stuff, but it's not something new at all.

That doesn't mean you shouldn't be annoyed slightly.

Yesterday, I re-downloaded HD Remix, only to find that it had tremendous slowdown. I'm talking about 1-st person here. I can't tell yet if the gameplay is easier than before.

I hated HD Remix. There are less animation frames than the original game, everything looks ass ugly like a flash browser game, just completely unnecessary.

At least some of the music is pretty good. That game's version of Boxer's theme is one of my favorites.

[up][up] How are there less frames? I thought the idea was to keep the original frame count.

There's some noticable choppiness here and there. At least, there was for me. I know they kept the original's animation in there for balance reasons. But I've played enough SFII in actual arcade hardware to know the higher choppiness when I see it.

Does anybody know French? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SwwNsZKJBeA&feature=c4-overview&list=UUra8qHY3KYC3RxDaYwUqdnw

Copy-pasting what the dude who posted this says:

  • Capcom could not build a brand new character from scratch (indicating they have to reuse existing assets available in the SF 4 engine)
  • A reference to Street Fighter Alpha
  • A quote about "October being a good month"

There have also been a few pushes from people hinted at having insider knowledge, but several of them are probably full of shit and/or trying to cash-in on an existing rumor so they can use it as cred in the future if it turns out correct. Apparently one of them also dropped a hint about the Juri anime that Capcom released a couple of years ago, which had the Dolls featured as a bit of a big plot point.

So this is leading people to believe it's one of the Dolls (except Juni or Juli since they've already been playable) since one could be easily built from Cammy assets and they were in Alpha. Some also take the October quote to specifically mean Xiayu (the Doll from October), even though she's generally presented as part of a duo with Jianyu.

Others combine it with the other recent rumor with the supposed silhouette to indicate that it might be Santamu (the Doll for August), though that doesn't explain why that rumor also specified a contest to name the character (other than Santamu's name having been translated a bunch of different ways, I guess).

Others just think it might be Noembelu or Decapre since they have the most plot potential (Edit: the guy on Shoryuken with the most legit chance of possibly having insider information has pretty blatantly hinted that it's Decapre—who is basically Cammy with Vega's mask and claw).

However, the interview was apparently conducted on October 24th, which is the same day that the Red Focus and Double Ultra stuff was confirmed, so October could be a "good month" simply because more news was about to come out and may not be relevant to the fifth character's identity.

Also, Goutetsu (Gouken & Akuma's master) and Zeku (Guy's master) were also both in SF Alpha without being playable, and could theoretically be cloned off of characters that are already in SF 4. There are also a few other unplayable Alpha characters (like Yoko Harmageddon) but I'm not sure who they could be cloned off of.

Of course, they might also technically be able to use assets built for the Tekken characters in S Fx T as a base for their new character which would make it more difficult to guess.

Or this rumor could just be bull.

Still no idea what Retsu was doing in that promotional artwork if he isn't the fifth character, though.

Also also, way back when SSF 4 was in loke tests and Dudley was still speculation, they had a prop of a blue boxing glove and a rose. This time, they have this.

Got this from a dude who posts in Penny Arcade forums.

Here's hoping for Decapre, even though I never heard about her until roughly five minutes ago.

It also had Neal Mc Donough as M. Bison as Geese Howard if that makes any sense.

And everyone's favourite bit, Chun-Li breaks Bison's neck IN FRONT OF HIS OWN DAUGHTER.
