I think we'd need an Unexpected Genre Change for this. Something that completely betrays what Sonic is about.

Like some Turn-Based Strategy. Or even more insulting, a Real-Time Strategy game with the speed of Ruse.

Replace everyone's voice with a mixture of the crazybus theme and nails scratching against a chalkboard, and replace all the music with one long, high pitched note that is just in the range of human hearing. There's also a second princess added.

The problem with Big isn't so much that his levels were horrible (which they were), but the fact that, for me at least, his cutscenes were the among the most entertaining parts of the entire game (for reasons I cannot explain). In other words, I had to slog through terrible gameplay to get the amusing material. And Thats Just Terrible.
