And it's still more accurate than "crossover", which is what you wanted.

I like TT Games Lego Games because it distinguishes the games we're talking about from all the other random Lego video games.

Um, wouldn't Travelers Tales Lego Games be more accurate? But even then, most people are unlikely to think of the company.

Is there a way to reach Lego or Traveler's Tales and ask if there is an official name for the series, or if they could make one up just to resolve this?

Hmm... how about we do it like with the Capcom Vs Whatever games and just go with Lego Whatever or Lego Whatever Games? We can clarify in the description that we're only talking about Lego Star Wars, Lego Indiana Jones, Lego Rock Band, etc, etc.

Well I actually would like to contact the companies first, but if that doesn't work, that is a good suggestion, Wulf.

Uh, if I may venture an opinion that would render this entire discussion irrelevant, shouldn't the games just get their own pages? Though they probably still need an index.

That said, the only Lego video game that isn't in this vein that I know of is the yet-to-be released Lego MMO, which I vaguely grasp is to follow in a similar mold anyway (correct me if needed). I don't see why a generic Lego Video Games sort of title would be bad.

Because we have things like Lego Rock Raiders, Lego Racers, Lego Island, Lego Chess, and Lego Battles which are nothing like the Lego Batman, Lego Starwars, and Lego Indiana Jones games.

This is the full list of LEGO video games. Even if you strip out Bionicle and the games under discussion, there are a lot of games remaining:

  • LEGO Alpha Team
  • LEGO Battles
  • LEGO Chess
  • LEGO Creator
    • There's a licensed Harry Potter game under the LEGO Creator aegis, but it is not in the LEGO (licensed title) series
  • LEGO Creator: Knights' Kingdom
  • LEGO Digital Designer
  • Drome Racers
  • LEGO Island
  • LEGO Island 2: The Brickster's Revenge
  • Island Xtreme Stunts
  • LEGO Knights' Kingdom
  • Legoland
  • LEGO Loco
  • LEGO My Style Kindergarten
  • LEGO My Style Preschool
  • LEGO Racers
  • LEGO Racers 2
  • LEGO Rock Raiders
  • LEGO Soccer Mania
  • LEGO Stunt Rally
  • LEGO Universe (the aforementioned MMO)

Some are their own series even like Lego Creator, Lego Island, and Lego Racer.

@Stratadrake: Isn't the Lego Rock Star Band game outside of that definition? [Lego Licensed Games]
Not necessarily, as Rock Band is its own intellectual property (game series + title trademark) and LEGO had to get licensing permission to make a LEGO Rock Band. So yeah, it's a licensed game. Sure, not the same kind of result as the other LEGO games (or other licensed games, for that matter), but in principle, Not So Different.

PS @ Blackwolfe: Just going to note that, technically, "Lego Digital Designer" isn't a game. It's a full-fledged 3D design program using virtual LEGO bricks (and almost as fun/addictive as the real thing).

Seriously, I'll try to contact Traveler's Tales and see if there is an official name. If there isn't, then we keep discussing.

I actually think each one of the main-most popular LEGO games should have its own page. At the very least, the Batman, Harry Potter, Indiana Jones and Star Wars ones.

Well if you can show there is enough of a trope difference, we can split, but it still leaves the question of what to call the main series, and I unfortunately haven't heard back from Travelers Tales.

And most of those aren't in the same style as these games and have different tropes that they use. They aren't the same format at all.

If we'd just want to give the individual LEGO games based on other franchises their own individual pages and turn this page in question into an index (Which I actually believe is the best option suggested), LEGO Games works just as well.

I don't see any reason reason why a title for an index on LEGO games should reflect only a specific subset of LEGO games. Even then, they're all still just LEGO games.

[up] Because it's not a page for all Lego games. It's a page for this specific subset of Lego games that happen to use the same format and tropes. We don't have a page for Lego Games in general.

But who says that we need a page for LEGO games that only lists the ones based on licensed franchises?

If it's really that big an issue, just take a page from an index like Alien Tropes and include multiple lists organized by category. One list for the licensed franchise games, another for any other LEGO Games on our wiki. There's no reason why ONLY the licensed franchise games should be categorized on a single page while we exclude LEGO Island, LEGO Racers, et. al.

[up] Because this subset of Lego games all have the exact same format, and almost the exact same tropes. It's like giving a book trilogy a page but not including other works by the same author lumped in with it. None of these games have their own pages. They're all just here. We have other pages for LEGO Racers. Are you saying that these works don't deserve their own page like it does?

This is the page for a series of games made up of Lego Star Wars, Lego Indiana Jones, Lego Batman, Lego Rock Band, and Lego Harry Potter. It's the same as having a page for LEGO Racers. It's the series bit that's important here. These games are all linked, and not distinct enough to have their own pages.

Are you saying that these works don't deserve their own page like it does?

When and where did I ever say that? I've only been arguing to make this an INDEX for all LEGO Games.

Lumping everything for the games based on licensed franchises into a single trope list is a pretty bad idea, anyway, since most of the tropes only apply to a single game—not all of them.

We're not lumping ALL the games together. We're only lumping this small subset of games together that are the same series.

Please reread what I wrote.

"Lumping everything for the games based on licensed franchises into a single trope list is a pretty bad idea, anyway, since most of the tropes only apply to a single gameā€”not all of them."

Like I said, the trope list on "LEGO Crossover Game" are not only things covering ALL the games, and many of these tropes are only for a SINGLE game. There isn't much reason why LEGO Star Wars should be lumped with LEGO Harry Potter or anything else anywhere other than a general index that just lists the name of a work with a link to a separate work page.

Reading through the trope list, it's actually about half and half. Half are game specific, and half are series specific.
