Only if you end up getting caught.
Read my stories!I actually have many shout outs to various tropers, some of them very easy to spot.
♥♥II'GSJQGDvhhMKOmXunSrogZliLHGKVMhGVmNhBzGUPiXLYki'GRQhBITqQrrOIJKNWiXKO♥♥I once wrote a Mirror Universe fanfic based on the members of a forum I frequent. From my experience most people feel honored if you base your characters on them. The rest just don't care. You should let them know, however.
I've asked most tropers I'm including in my Alternate History, as with other people from other forums in it.
Half-Life: Dual Nature, a crossover story of reasonably sized proportions.doo eet! just ask first. Speaking for myself I wouldn't mind being used.
If I were to write some of the strange things that come under my eyes they would not be believed. ~Cora M. Strayer~Don't use people whole-cloth, pick and choose their characteristics and experiences to flesh out your characters. I bet you have some friends who've had strange or funny hijinks in the past; ask about them and if those experiences can flesh out your stories.
My Blog | My Steam profileBut if memory serves, not all of those are characters, and you created a megathread in Yack Fest to ask about who was interested.
The Revolution Will Not Be TropeableI don't think anyone would mind, they would just like to be informed about it if you did. Personaly I wouldn't have a problem if you used me without asking, but I think it's obvious that you should ask people for that. You know, the necessary politeness.
On another note, if you were going to gender flip some of those characters for more shipping and love dodecahedron options, should you ask them if its okay first? Just in case they might be offended.
The sheer amount of shit in the Troper Shipping thread makes me highly doubt it matters much.
If people learned from their mistakes, there wouldn't be this thing called bad habits.I think most people won't be offended, as no one would ever take your story seriously enough. Unless you actually have a grudge against somebody and they know it, it shouldn't be a problem.
But I love everyone here!
I hope something I do inspires an author, be it a good or a bad thing.
I'm feeling strangely happy now, contented and serene. Oh don't you see, finally I'll be, somewhere that's green...I ship everyone, anyway.
>_>
<_<
Half-Life: Dual Nature, a crossover story of reasonably sized proportions. Now I'm curious who I'm berthing with, in the shippers' minds.
I probably shouldn't be.
If I were to write some of the strange things that come under my eyes they would not be believed. ~Cora M. Strayer~It would be so cool to have a character based on me. Not that I'm suggesting anything...
True... it could be frightening. But then I'd get the answer on what people think of me

"You've got your transmission and your live wire, but your circuit's dead." - Media@Pixie bait: I'd almost be afraid to see what Tropers would do with my online self. Almost but not quite.
If I were to write some of the strange things that come under my eyes they would not be believed. ~Cora M. Strayer~Yeah, for some tropers, I use them as bases, not themselves (or at least, their internet personas)

If I want to use expies of tropers as characters, I should ask them, right? Even if they don't have the same name and some of them are gender flipped?
