In this thread, post music that, whenever you hear it, causes you to weep like a baby, shed a manly tear, or let a drop of black liquid sorrow fall from your eye. In short...

Ain't there one damn song that can make you break down and cry?

For me, the songs that come to mind are Don McLean's "American Pie", R.E.M.'s "Nightswimming" and "Find the River", and X-Ray Spex's "Plastic Bag".

Hatikvah, though I'm obviously biased on that one. >_>;

Very few songs make me cry consistently, but in the past, I've cried over Heart by Stars, Hey Jude, I Will Follow You Into The Dark, Transatlanticism, The Big Dango Family, and probably a number of Regina Spektor's songs.

I haven't the slightest idea why but... Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic by the Police always makes me at least tear up. /sapsapsap

Anathema's "One Last Goodbye". A fair bit of what I listen to is vaguely depressive, but "One Last Goodbye" is the only song I can think of that I would describe as an effective Tear Jerker.

Not that I cried, of course, I'm far too manly for that stuff. >_>

I don't think a song by itself has ever made me cry, but Hurt and The Show Must Go On make me all sad inside.

Only song that's ever made me cry. But it did the job pretty damn well.

"Hallelujah", any version would do. As well as "Amazing Grace", which is the prototype song for funerals.

"Spacebound" by Eminem makes me sad, as well as "Everlong", "Broken" by Seether, and "My Immortal". The latter used to make me sad as well until I recently heard of a certain fanfic...

It's the "I'd tune into some friendly voices/ talking 'bout stupid things" lines that gets me. *sniffle*

There was a thread on this a long time ago and this was my answer:

Particularly because it turns out to have been taken verbatim from a news article.

Epilogue - To Good Friends from Chrono Trigger always makes me feel like crying... In fact, the first time I heard it, it did make me cry... sad

If we're including video game music I might as well just add the entire Mother3 soundtrack (except the battle songs, I suppose).

And the last 30 seconds or so of this can make me get a bit sniffly, though that's mainly because of how it's used in the comic.

Take a melody~

Simple as can be~

Give it some words~

and Sweet Harmony~

Raise your voices~

All day long now~

Love grows strong now~

Sing a melody of love, oh love~

Love is the power~

Love is the glory~

Love is the beauty and the joy of spring~

"After the Fall" by Trans-Siberian Orchestra and "Trouble" by Cat Stevens, especially if it's in the context of Harold and Maude.
