Interesting you made this topic. I just added an example of a French film to Market-Based Title, and then edited because I was confused about which trope it qualified for- it would seem to be market based, as a more literal translation of the title would probably be considered ultra-offensive.

Seems pretty obvious to me:
- Market-Based Title: Work has two different titles in the same language based on the market (maybe because the title is rude slang in a region, or one of the words is obscure as all hell). For example, Harry Potter And The Philosophers Stone because Harry Potter And The Sorcerers Stone in the USA.
- Completely Different Title: The translation of the title has an entirely different meaning. For Example, Harry Potter And The Philosophers Stone becomes "Harry Potter at the School of Wizards" in french.
That being said, the descriptions could be made more clear, and examples could be re-sorted out.
Eitherway, they most certainly should not be merged, as the tropes have different reasons for being. CDT can occur because it's impossible to make a literal translation of the title (Either because there's no equivalent, or the title is based on an idiom or pun that cannot be translated), while MBT is based around pure market appeal and executive meddling

That seems like a good division of the tropes, but in that case I'd rename Completely Different Title. Changed Title Translation, maybe? Title Translation Change? Something like that. I'd call it a subtrope of Market-Based Title, in which case the only examples on Market-Based Title should be the ones that aren't a Translation Title Change (or whatever).

I agree with Native Jovian. It seems to me that including something like "translation" in Completely Different Title would be a good idea since I think the "translation" part is what truly differentiates the two tropes in question.

Dusting off this one, since I ran across the TRS for it...
Combining Market-Based Title and Completely Different Title would be a mistake, particularly as the latter was established as a split from the former (I even recognize some of the examples I had added to the former in the latter). Some cleanup between the pages is required.

I wasn't aware of the existence of Completely Different Title until just now. It seems like if there's a distinction between it and Market-Based Title, tropers can't figure out what the hell the distinction might be. The description of Completely Different Title seems to suggest that Market-Based Title should be made up only of English-to-English retitlings, but the examples are in fact nothing of the sort.
