Dunno why you'd want to do that, though. Yeah, self-imposed challenge, but Frog without anything beyond Slurp Slash would just be really boring.

Have a hell of a time beating Magus's barrier change, too.

@Enlong: I just got to End Of Time, but I haven't talked to that guy yet. I'm not all that close to learning Robo Tackle, I have around 75 TP left to earn.

So, I get the ability to learn the rest of the Techs by talking to Spekkio?

Yeah. You have to talk to him with Crono, Marle, Lucca, or Frog in the party for them to learn past their 2nd or 3rd tech. You don't need need to do this for the other characters like Robo since they either don't learn or already know magic.

Basically, when a character joins your party (and you're able to go to a Gate), bring them in to talk with Spekkio. If nothing else, he has something to say for all of them, and some of them need to talk to him to unlock all their techs.

Present, Apocalypse, and Future are Sci Fi. Prehistory, Dark Ages, and Middle Ages are Fantasy.

Hmm, have I linked Zephyr Cradle's remix yet? I wouldn't want to plug it twice in one thread, but if I haven't it'd be a shame not to share it...

[up][up][up] It's about as perfect as a 16-bit soundtrack can get, certainly. Frog's theme remains my definition of the Theme Music Power-Up, "World Revolution" is Screw Destiny in musical form, and whenever I wonder what music should accompany a warlock warlord or a magic-flinging antihero, Magus' theme always comes to mind.

I loved DBZ Abridged use of it for an entrance by Piccolo, especially since Piccolo's... "dad" had the name "Demon King", just like Magus.

"Is Chrono Trigger Sci-Fi or Fantasy?"

Yes.

That Corridors of Time remix is actually really good.

For some reason, Frog's Theme was the only song that made much of an impression on me the first time I heard it. The others I can enjoy now, but at first I barely noticed their quality. I don't know why. Frog's Theme is still my fav CT song.

By contrast, the music for Chrono Cross made much more of a first-time impression on me. I absolutely adored the song for when you ride in the boat in Another World, the music for the opening video, and (especially) the music played during the liberation of Marbule (I think it's called Stars, Wind, and Waves or something). Still, it might be unfair to compare music from different generations.

Chrono Cross has an amazing soundtrack. I love CT's soundtrack, but CC's music is just fantastic. It's definitely the best part of the game.

It's kind of mixed as to how good at is. The battle system's all right (and a lot different from CT—no ATB), and the story in my opinion started off decent but soon devolved into clusterfuck. There's also a huge cast of characters, many of whom have very little bearing on the plot and are pretty interchangeable. The graphics are also pretty great for a PS1 game, since it was released late in the system's life.

Overall I'd call it a decent game, nowhere near as fantastic as Chrono Trigger but I had fun with it. (Also I played it just this past year, so I was aware of its shortcomings going into it.)

It is a huge kick in the crotch if you actually played Chrono Trigger. Basically, the writer decides to go back and make CT a Shaggy Dog Story, just so that his new characters can *actually* fix things.

I like Chrono Cross, just not as a "Chrono" game. It suffered from overly high expectations, I feel.

The combat was innovative and fun.
The cast was overly huge, true, but they allowed you to swap spell loadouts fairly easily, and I recall unused party members were kept within a certain range of your mains, so noone was too "left behind" from dis-use.
Besides, most of the time, you picked favorites and kept them(Go Glenn!).
The split dimension gimmick was unique for the time, and decently explored. Some locations had minor differences, while others were radically changed.

I greatly enjoyed playing it, but the Chrono references that actually were in the game felt very forced to me.
To me, it felt as though they had an existing concept, or even a partially complete game, and decided to re-brand it in order sell more copies at the last minute. (I'm probably very wrong on that point, but that's the impression it gave me in the end.)
Basically, it was a great game, just not a great sequel.

And the soundtrack is simply amazing. First game soundtrack I ever actually went to the effort to buy/import a physical copy. It's that good.

Chrono Cross is one of my favorite RPGs on the PS 1. It has one of the greatest battle systems of any RPG I've played. I had a lot of fun messing around with the many different characters, attack strings, different elements and manipulating the field, even more than I enjoyed Trigger's Tech system. The music is superb, as good or possibly better than that in Chrono Trigger. The graphics are some of the best of the PS 1. I love the tropical setting that the game uses.

The characters might be a mixed bag. They seem to be the first criticism anyone brings up, most on grounds forgettableness and flatness. Personally, I found most of them memorable and likable, even as I admit that maybe a quater to a third of them seem unneccesary. Also, the story is interesting and makes some thought-provoking points about time travel, but it finds that it resorts to huge infodumps near the end.

Really, the game's biggest flaws are that the story can get Anvilicious at times and they don't bother giving you a good ending. Despite all this, I found playing through it a very rewarding experience. I actually enjoyed it slightly more than I did Chrono Trigger, though I think that might not be a common position around here.

Based on what little I know of Cross I'll probably never play it. It sounds like a far inferior game to its predecessor and I don't like some of the things it apparently does to the story.
