That's it. I'm giving this Korean webcomic it's own thread.

It should not take you all that long (only 25 chapters thus far), just finished it's second major ark, and I like where the plot is going along with the slowly-being-relieved dynamics of the characters/tower. The only description on Manga Fox is this:

What do you desire? Fortune? Glory? Power? Revenge? Or something that surpasses all others? What ever you desire, 'that is here'. Tower of God.

Join Twenty-Fifth Baam as he climbs each level of the Tower to find his beloved friend, Lahel. Facing from impossible missions to mind bending puzzles as he uses any means necessary to reach the top.

I will not give any more detail then that, otherwise it would ruin the fun of discovering what is going on.

Have Fun!

PS: I have to agree with the examiner about this latest turn of events. "What the hell did he just do?"

My only gripe with this is, there isn't a lot raws to look at. At least with Trace or Let's Fight Ghost there's a lot of raws to look at.

There are not many raws because it is posted online to begin with. No need for scans or anything like that.

Hmm, does the existence of this thread mean that it's okay to make a thread for Noblesse too?

Necro because I'm currently reading this and also because if I understand correctly, the entire series has finally all been translated into English, just around Christmas I believe (I'm reading translation done by "thcmpny", not sure if there is a better group).

I'm up to chapter 54.

Do you guys think the tower is more of an Ontological Mystery or just a Small, Secluded World. It kinda reminds me of The Seventh Tower world.

It's also feeling kinda weird how we've spent so much time on the one floor. Like maybe it was nearly becoming a school life manga for a bit there?

Anyway, I'm liking what I've read so far.

Huh, does this series qualify as manhwa? Not that I mind, of course!

Anyways, I'm up to 24 and got to tell you, it's freaking awesome.

It's kinda like...hmm...One Piece meets Liar Game?

Shouldn't we be asking you whether you would qualify it as a Manhwa?

I understand it's released on the web (I think) but it definitely doesn't seem like a webcomic.

If you follow the short-hand website links (while they are active), you come to this site where the original is "published."

While looking for that, I came across this site which states that "The author has said that Tower of God is the first part of a series called Talse Uzer." This makes me quite happy. There is a LOT that can be done with this setting.

Also, we have been inconsistently using the "Manwha" and "Webtoon" threads (in the Manga and Webcomic areas respectively) to talk about Tower of God, Noblesse, and others.

Whelp, I just Archive Binged this at hyperspeed.

And it turns out that Lahel was the irregular all along, not Baam. And she's tricked everyone into helping her, with some help from behind the scenes. Meaning that big guy with the red jaw was probably a red herring. That's… that's quite the twist.

[up] I believe it was decided that Rachael was the correct translated name for Baam's friend, not Lahel.

I just finished too.

I'm glad they didn't cheapen the tests of the tower, and I like the pacing more than say The Dark Tower, but we seriously spent the whole time on the second floor. And this ending... Is pretty open as endings go.

In fact I'd say the ending doesn't resolve or provide any closure whatsoever. Except possibly Baam's original reason for entering the tower, but it would have been good to at least see how he is taking this, because it's pretty heavily implied that he's still alive. So I felt it could have been better ending-wise, but I would still recommend this because it's really that interesting.

It's not over yet, by all appearances. Yeah, the last few chapters have been subtitled 'epilogue', but that probably just means it's an epilogue to the second floor or something like that.

Also, I really liked how this series wasn't really as bloodthirsty as these types of series tend to be; despite not being any lighter in tone. I mean, Ho was pretty much the only non-fodder character to die, (not counting Baam because Never Found the Body and Like You Would Really Do It) and even the fodder deaths were almost entirely offscreen, with people we'd never even seen.

Just saw chap 78 up and now understand what you are saying.

Hmm... my my my. SOMEONE has something in store for him. But wait a min... does that mean the big "guy" is the princess?! You have this girl as a guide, the love interest as the irregular (if only so that Baam climes the tower), so that leaves the other one as the princess.

What? No. Androssi was the princess. The guide woman was part of Baam's group, and starting manipulating things behind the scenes during the last round of the crown game. The big guy is someone Headon told to help Rachel for reasons that aren't clear yet.

Well I picked a good time to finish archive binging this series. I'm really liking it, it's got good characters and an interesting setting, and though I wasn't expecting the Thirty Xanatos Pileup I'm definitely not complaining. But as fascinating as the story is, I hope we can go through the other 132 floors just a little faster.

Only one thing really bugs me at the moment: Rachel. Considering her betrayal, it's probably the intended response, but something just seems off about it to me due to her characterization. We're introduced to her as willing to help and teach Baam some basics and ideals of human behavior. Then Headon's like "no, you really suck as a person," which she does prove in a self-fulfilling prophecy kind of way.

If its supposed to be Hidden Depths, to me it comes across more as out of character. However, since we do barely know her character, it's not too much of a problem, and basically puts us in Baam's very confused position. And it was worth it just for the disturbingly meta "how does it feel to be the heroine?" The bit with Headon just doesn't make any sense at the moment.

I'm expected a bit of a time skip now, personally. Like, we check back in with our protagonists after they've gone through a dozen or so floors without significant problems.

Rachel's personality could have been a retcon, but the extra reveals about their past fit and Baam's feelings for Rachel now put me in mind of Stockholm Syndrome.

I really do wonder whose gambit this latest one is though.

It's a shame he's still climbing the tower because of Rachel. That's one of the less interesting motivations, but I guess the floors themselves eclipse such motivations.

As far as I can tell, it is not a Thirty Xanatos Pileup. To my mind, there is exactly one plot that requires Baam to climb the tower for an ambiguous goal to be met. It is just that this plan requires manipulating EVERYONE to a ridiculous degree, including manipulating people into coming up with their own plans.

In summary, here are the general requirements of this plan that we know of:

  • Baam needs to climb the tower and get stronger
    • Rachel provides the incentive for this
  • Baam gets involved with/learns about the princesses and the 13 month series of weapons
    • 1st floor guardian provided the circumstances for this
  • Baam has to be hidden from the ruling families or else he will be killed
    • The whole point of the second floor, on the surface, is to stop people like Baam. But the 2nd floor guardian was in on the plan, and turned it into a chance to "kill" Baam, taking him off of the radar. Also makes her smile after hearing the alternate testing method called for take on a whole different meaning.

I haven't seen that much of an over-arching plan to be honest.

As far as I know everyone except the tower administrators seems to still be acting as they like.

The only seriously large scale manipulation I've seen is manipulating Baam's companions into helping Rachel. And that could have just been Rachel's plan or even luck.

And on another note, would you climb the tower?

They say it will be hard. Undoubtedly you will learn things.

So far it seems to be such an ordeal that when you reach the "top" your starting goals are unimportant. So is it worth it?

I think I probably wouldn't, or at least not with the expectations of finding something at the top. The best motivation is probably to climb it to see what's there. Or because.

I was thinking the same thing about a timeskip, now that these first 2 floors have, almost literally, set the foundation for the story.

You know, I could imagine this as an animated series. It's got an engaging story and characters, not too violent, and balance of humor and drama. Give it to the Korean studios that did the animation for Avatar The Last Airbender, since the artstyle isn't too far off.

[up][up] Yeah, now that I think about it, it seems like most of the main storyline is just the 2nd floor director, and I guess Headon, screwing with everybody. But the manipulating people who have their own plans that gets a little confusing (like with whatever Ren was up too, and Ho and the letter about Rachel. Who actually sent that again and why?)

[up] I definitely wouldn't climb the tower if I could. The trend among the Regulars, or at least the small group that's made it this far, is that they have absolutely nothing left for outside it, and so the risk to gain everything at the top is worth it. Plus, they have seem to have varying degrees of psychological issues.
