[up]x3 The proportions were still realistic-ish, though.

[up]x2 No need to take it that far, dude.

[up] Fusion had Troopers? I don't remember seeing any.

[up][up]Opening cutscene. The people Samus was escorting before she was infected by the X.

[up][up][up] Pretty sure those were researchers in protective gear, not soldiers.

And the only real similarity is that they're wearing grey armor. The shape is completely different.

Aren't these things mechs though? The armor isn't the exact same kind as Fusion.

At Sterok's comic:

Funny thing is, there actually IS Metroid Tetris.

Man, Tetris DS was pretty nifty- Probably the best post-Worlds game, for whatever that's worth.

I sure said that!

Maybe they just can't see orange.

Or they see Orange and Green as the same.

Orange, yellow and green are fairly close on the visible spectrum of light.

Most of the time when they fight Samus she's not in green environments.

Maybe they all have Dichromasy.

Which means that Samus is basically perfectly camouflaged against them.

This is an intriguing idea.

Huh.

So are the big heads in the trailer really just expanded-view helmets?

EDIT: Rewatched the trailer and... Nope. Those are definitely normal-sized helmets. Again, this change in art-style is a bit jarring and, frankly, disappointing.

However, since it's likely still in development, things might change.

So I was hunting for Missile Expansions in Echoes and I stumbled across a boss called the Dark Missile Trooper. Since when does Metroid have optional bosses?

There's the Charge Beam dude in Zero Mission

Oh really when?

Yeah, but you have to encounter him. You just don't have to murder him.

Isn't the charge beam required for certain expansions? It also actively attacks you. I managed to beat the game a year or two back without even realizing this thing existed.

There's Arachnus from Metroid II: Revenge of the Return of the Daughter of Bird

You get the Spring Ball for beating it but you don't need the Spring Ball to beat the game.

Ii actually killed Ridley in Zero Mission without first killing the flying bug guy guarding the "first" super missile. I went down to Ridley's lair but it never occurred to me I was supposed to say "nope, this is a dead end, I guess I'll have to go back up the elevator and find another way."

I've played Zero Mission many times by going for Ridley first and then Kraid.

It's a pretty tricky thing to pull off, but I love going that route.

I believe that was referring to an interview after the E3 where it was mentioned that the players are actually using customizable mechs during missions. I also recall seeing footage (probably during the Treehouse) of a smaller person jumping into the more recognizable (and now infamous) suits that many have complained about, but my memory's hazy and I could be wrong.

It might have been this Kotaku article, by the way.

(Relevant quote from the article):

When I asked him to share more info about the game, he started talking about role-playing game classes and how, in this game, he wants players to define their own roles. See, players in the main mode will be moving around in mechs that are outfitted before each mission. Players can choose to be more of a “healer” by equipping repair capsules. Others might arm their mech with super missiles. Power-ups have weight, so players will have to balance what they carry.

Anyways, my brothers used the last of their Club Nintendo coins to get Super Metroid on the Wii U, so I'll finally have a chance to play the game. It and Fusion (and the original NES title) are the only 2D Metroid titles that I haven't played, so I'm looking forward to it.

I just wish I had a way to play the Prime trilogy. All the talk about the games here is making me feel like I missed something great.

You can single-wall jump in Zero Mission.

It's hard as shit, but it can be done.

I'd kind of like for the main bad guy in Federation Force to be a mid-level space pirate dude who gets enough screentime to have a defined personality.

Do you have a Wii U?

There's Arachnus from Metroid II: Revenge of the Return of the Daughter of Bird

The fact that something called Arachnus doesn't give you the Spider Ball make me irrationally angry.

I have a message from another time...
