Maybe they'll pull a Tomb Raider 2013 and reboot the series to do this sort of thing.
Has Nintendo ever done a full out reboot? I don't mean doing widely different things or ignoring some of their more embarrassing moments, but a flat out reboot wiping clean the past continuity. Pokemon gen 3 kind of did it, but that was more for technical reasons than anything else.
It'd be better if they didn't anyway. Whether they ignore Other M or try to smooth it over, it isn't worth the effort to restart everything just to get rid of its stain.
Well, series rebooting does make available a lot of space for making storylines.
But is there that much more space than not rebooting and just not worrying too much about continuity?
Well, rebooting is almost the same thing as not worrying about continuity.
I just want to see an actual Metroid 5. You can only cram so much stuff between existing games It's already pretty silly that the game actually called "Metroid 2" is chronologically the 5th game. Also both Fusion and Other M have the whole Federation conspiracy thing going on, which I think should be resolved. You don't just introduce somethign like that and do nothing with it.
I don't think it should be focus of all future games, but I would like to see on game that deals with Samus being wanted by the Federation for blowing up BSL and wiping out all life on SR 388, while she is trying to uncover who is behind the conspiracy and expose them. Maybe it turns out the conspirators are actually in league with the Space Pirates, and the Federation's ability to clone Metroids is derived from Pirate reasearch on Metroids. With the leaders of the conspiracy in danger of being exposed, they decide to act and launch a military coup with the help of their Pirate allies. Now Samus and the un-corrupt members of the Federation military must fight the rogue elements and Space Pirates, which would undoubtably involve Samus travelling to multiple planets and blowing stuff up.
Bocaj, in the Manga, Zero Mission wasn't supposed to be her first. She had already built up a reputation for completing impossible missions. It was the "Zero Mission" because no one was supposed to know it was happening (In the manga's misguided attempt to make Mother Brain and The Space Pirates seem more threatening, it would apparently ruin the Federation if word got out they had boots on the ground. Did I mention I really don't like the manga?)
But just look at the original game's manual and see she's already Shrouded in Myth. They just called it Zero because at some point it became "classy" to refer to the "first" installment as "zero".
We already had enough bad PR and stuff with Tomb Raider 2013 nearly turning into I Spit On Your Tomb. We don't need I Spit On Your Zebes as well with attempted gangrape and Samus getting the living shit fucked out of her.
I don't really see why Metroid needs a reboot. The timeline and lore isn't that convoluted. Nintendo just needs to know what direction to go.
Exactly. The series is broad enough that they can continue it without needing to start over.
Or they could treat it the way the treat Zelda, which is to simply ignore canon and just make a game. But yeah, they definitely had a lot of space.
Re Zero Mission: origin stories have been pretty popular lately.

Zelda still has a timeline though. I think they should pay a bit more attention with Metroid since this series stars a singular character. They can't just handwave things by saying "a hundred years passed and this is a different protagonist." It's not like the timeline is hard to understand though and knowing the exact placement of the games isn't necessary to understand and appreciate them. The Prime series can stand on its own pretty well for example.

Kinda hard with the titular species exterminated after II.
Except IIRC they also showed up in Fusion, by way of X parasites miming them. So they can still come back.
They showed up in Fusion because the Federation had a secret Metroid cloning program.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersThe problem is that Samus is too good at killing things. They keep having to come up with new ways to bring back the Metroids and Ridley and stuff.
I find it hard to believe there are no Metroids at all. They somehow got to Phaaze of all places.
There's also the argument that the series title can refer to Samus now since it means Great(or is it Ultimate?) Warrior.
If they want to bring Metroids back, they'll bring them back somehow.
Eating a Vanilluxe will give you frostbite.Previously unexplored planet where the Chozo tried to import metroid biotech from Zebes. Metroids now out of control.
Bam! New game setting.
Bonus points if the Federation and the Pirates are in a race to get their hands on it.
Super bonus points if they're both racing against Samus's mission to destroy them.

Give the Pirates a brain, rather than them being "animals". Fucking Sakamoto.
Also, I can see the federation cloning Ridley for Samus-hunting purposes. As wise as usual tho.
-Hunter Ridley kills entire lab-
"WHO COULD HAVE FORESEE THIS?!"
Then bring the original Ridley and the Other M clone Ridley back from the death. Have all three Ridleys duke it out in a cutscene until they notice Samus. At which point it becomes a boss battle against three Ridleys.
Did you really have to throw in a shot at Sakamoto there?
But yes, it would be cool to see them acting like units and the like. Not to mention if you had to fight both them and corrupt Federation members as well.
Heck, maybe the whole deal with the Federation conspiracies and the like could be similar to the Hydra infiltrating SHIELD plot from Captain America The Winter Soldier.
-If I can help you, I will.

-(use Super Missile)
