Hi everyone!

Well, I think a good chunk of people interested in Dating Sims and Visual Novels have at least heard by name about Konami 's Tokimeki Memorial series, one of the major pieces of the genre.

I've discovered it in 2005, and seriously involved myself in in 2009. Since there's no forum dedicated to it (unlike my other fave series, Fire Emblem), and I want to talk about it with other fans or people who know about it, I've created this thread.

Any people who's interested in discovering this series is wholeheartedly welcome! I'll answer to them with the best of my knowledge (being the standard branch of the saga, i.e. games 1 to 4, with special focus on the first two).

We've got to start the thread somewhere, so let's go with something basic. Which games have you played, and what are your fave chars in the saga? :p

Hi! ...Alright, this is starting to sound a bit like an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting, but anyway here goes!

I came across the Tokimemo series way back - not quite sure when. Full disclosure - I'm one of those people who enjoyed Tokimemo 2 much more than 1. I've played 1, 2 and 4, but not the side stories. Furthermore, I'm not a completionist - I usually just go for the characters whom I find interesting.

That being said: I haven't yet exhausted the possibilities of 4, but at this point my favourite character from the series is still Mei from Tokimemo 2. I cleared that game with Hikari, Kaori and Mei - now, I guess I should mention that I am not normally the sort to go after tsundere types OR kid-sister types, but Mei's story really moved me - the whole theme of guilt, forgiveness and helping her to grow out of her loneliness. It doesn't hurt that there are lots of funny moments to go with the heartwarming ones - nor does it hurt that she's smart and very cute. Oh, and Nerds Are Sexy. Her fashion sense does need a bit of work, though...

Alcoholics Anonymous meeting, XDDDDDD

I agree Mei is one of the most interestings chars of Tokimemo 2 (and that she needs some fashion in some cases :p). Hey, she's not my 3rd favourite (former 2nd until I played Kaori's route) for nothing. :p Seeing your comments on her, I guess the Events that moved you the most are the Riverside ones, right? I really liked those ones, as well as the "You're my only slave" and "I hate onions" ones, and most of her end game ones too. Damn, her route was real fun.

But I don't know for you, but getting her 2nd Ending (where she adds the line "You haven't changed one bit since our childhood, you don't hold your promises, you don't understand a girl's feelings") wasn't a piece of cake in my case, since you need the "Ijuin MIB" Event on top of the Childhood-related ones for that Ending, and that one requires low affection, when the Summer Camp one just few months before requires high affection. My run was rocky until March 2000 because of the bomb I had Mei explode, the other girls were out for my blood after that :O

Speaking of which, did you let bombs explode in any of your Tokimeki Memorial games, and went on with the damage without resetting ?

Well, answering that one for TM 4 would be a spoiler. :)

But generally I try for bomb avoidance whenever possible.

I didn't actually go for Mei's ending 2. Somehow it felt... wrong, like doing that would miss the point of her story. But YMMV.

I don't mind spoilers for TM4. After all, I'm the one who created this game's Character Sheet. :p

Huh, Mei's 2nd Ending missing the point of her storyline? How? To me, I feel the contrary (and after all the sole difference between her two Endings are just two extra lines), you don't mind if you can elaborate, as I'm confused? @_@

Also, I'm going to start soon a new Tokimemo 2 run, but I'm hesitating which route I'll go... I'm going to play Childhood Mode again to get a good stats AB blood character, so I have good compatibility with O and B characters.

Thus, which of those three would you advise me to go: Akane, Kaedeko, or Miyuki? I slightly lean more on the former two, but...

I've read the various English FA Qs for the main games in the Tokimemo franchise, in an attempt to understand how they work. Never quite got around to the spinoff OA Vs or the Only Love TV anime series.

Since I don't have the dedication to understand one of the many untranslated games, I was pretty much outside the fandom until fall 2010, when the first English translation patches for Tokimeki Memorial Girl's Side DS were released. I consider myself a Shoujo fan (among other genres), so I gave it a shot. I enjoyed the game quite a bit. The simulation gameplay was challenging and compelling, and I found the art and writing quite nice. I managed to get a good ending with Wataru Hibiya, and didn't succeed with Morimura Sakuya.

As of this writing, the TMGS1 Fan Translation is finished and bug-free. The TMGS2 translation is still in beta testing. Other attempts to translate the Tokimemo games have died quietly.

It's been six months since the last post. The TMGS2 translation is complete and bug-free. There's been talk about translating TMGS3, but no solid plans have been made.

And believe it or not, one more group is trying to translate the Super Famicom version of the first game, and having a *small* amount of success. From what I read on Tokihacki (https://sites.google.com/site/tokihacki/Home), it seems there's an English patch for the ending scenes. Still far from complete, but it's better than nothing.
