here re. French colonialism http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/africa/inside-frances-secret-war-396062.html
Doesn't work too well if the majority tries to fuck over minorities using their numbers. E.g. cultural suppression.

"I didn't steal it; I'm borrowing it until I die."...
I... I think this deserves its own topic. Once I'm done throwing up.
The term "Great Man" is disturbingly interchangeable with "mass murderer" in history books. My condolances.

I am unsure about minority languages. On the one hand they are an important part of a cultures identity.
On the other, they are used for communication and if you can't do that with a lot of people its pretty pointless, and such localised languages tend to be fodder for the very worst sort of nationalists.
Well the purpose of the regional languages is simply nationalism, it identifies a nation of group and shows they are different. It also relatedly acts as an "in-group" marker - e.g. you get cheaper shit if you're from the same nation (e.g. Shanghai vendors who are cheaper if you can speak the local version of Wu, Shanghaiese).
WHASSUP....... ....with lolis!Or Shanghai vendors who won't sell to you. (A fun experience I've had.)
"I didn't steal it; I'm borrowing it until I die."The government is moving towards a dictatorship. If the trend continues I see no reason why violence is not an option.
Is using "Julian Assange is a Hillary butt plug" an acceptable signature quote?Sounds like Hungary needs a new constitution
"We learn from history that we do not learn from history."A news from yesterday: The debate over a new law regulating strikes was going on, when the government all of a sudden stopped the debate and initiated the vote. Lots of other politicians wanted to speak, but they didn't let them.
A member of the opposition, who also prepared with a speech but couldn't tell it, said the following to the representatives of the government: "Go fuck yourselves."
They proceeded with the vote and the bill has passed with the wording of the government.
I have no freakin' comment about this...
"We have done the impossible and that makes us mighty." - Malcolm ReynoldsI just read up on your system of government. Unicameral legislatives are made of fail when dominated by just one party. It just has LOL ABUSE ME written all over it.
Oh, and the media law made minor new here. The "The EU complains about X" kind of news.
Now if you excuse me, Starfleet is about to award the Christopher Pike Medal to my dick. — SF DebrisCan the EU actually do something about anything for a change?
"We have done the impossible and that makes us mighty." - Malcolm ReynoldsWestminister parliamentary systems, and by definition, most parliamentary systems, are for all intents and purposes, unicameral. It's not like the House of Lords would ever shoot down supply or anything. The minority is almost always irrelevant in a parliamentary system; this is an inherent, universal reality.
"I didn't steal it; I'm borrowing it until I die."In the meantime, I've read a few things about Belarus, and I sure hope the Hungarian government won't get ideas from them...
(Basically, in Belarus, every webpage must be registered at the state, and any webpage must be shut down by the hosting companies in 24 hours if the state commands them to. That's net neutrality for ya...)
"We have done the impossible and that makes us mighty." - Malcolm ReynoldsActually, this is one of the more popular changes. I'm not sure if it's better over there, but here, it's one of those typical things what everyone claims to hate about the media, when a news report is 80% about reporting random break-ins, murders, 10% about Yet Another Baby Panda, and 10% politics/world news.
Not saying that it's a good thing - commercial channels should show what people want to see - but people are too busy hoping for higher quality news to be disturbed about the freedom of speech implications.
Here is a much worse one:
From now, 50% of all films on TV must be from Europe, 1/3 of them from Hungary, and 1/3 of all radio music must be Hungarian.

Quotas like this are not unusual btw. AFAIK several countries have those, but they are usually limited to public broadcasting channels. It's not that bad and not a crime agianst free speech. It just sucks.

With cannon shot and gun blast smash the alien. With laser beam and searing plasma scatter the alien to the stars.Wow. That..really, really sucks. I'm sorry.
@Eternal September: The thing about crimes vs. politics/world news: what about political crimes? With only 20% of the report being crimes, and the government being as authoritarian as it is, it's likely that the shady dealings of their leaders would never get reported. After all, this whole thing could be considered a crime - an infraction of the people's rights.
"War doesn't prove who's right, only who's left." "Every saint has a past, every sinner has a future."A serious protest movement needs to be organised involving a large percentage of the country before there is no fighting back democratically.
The term "Great Man" is disturbingly interchangeable with "mass murderer" in history books.Eh, they don't have to limit themselves to La Fin Absolue du Monde, they've got a broad spectrum of German (sorry Auto) Hollywood ripoffs.
"Atheism is the religion whose followers are easiest to troll"This should get more attention in world news.
"War doesn't prove who's right, only who's left." "Every saint has a past, every sinner has a future."This won't get much play till the violence or rhetoric get too big. It's an internal matter not much outsiders can do/want to do, unless they call for aid of course.
