Do you think they'll just go off the Japanese live action films, anyways? I haven't seen them.

Maybe. I mean, they've already been condensed. Although the Japanese live action films start with Light already being Kira, which might assume some prior knowledge. And L has the more bishonen actor, which might cause some confusion if they did go off that.

I actually have high hopes for the American deathnote. Even if it's Americanized to hell, if the plot and characters are good it will sell. Think of it like Dark Knight, is it 100% faithful to the comics no, is a great movie regardless yes. no YMMV, doesn't count on this one.

I often remarked at how deathnote reminded me of western criminal thrillers, so I think it will transition well consider how the majority of tv and movies in America focus on crime and punishment. I watch a lot of western tv too.

Now the Americanized Bleach movie, I have less faith in.

Ohhh, suuuuuuuuuure. Another anime gets a shoddy live action film that'll flop when it hits theaters while the cash cow movie for Halo laments in Development Hell.

COMMON HOLLYWOOD. HALO WOULD PROBABLY OUT GROSS LOTR OR HARRY POTTER.

... Nah, Halo sucks.

But it would be a lot easier to make a Hollywood film out of...without bastardizing anything. Since theres nothing Hollywood could possible screw up with something like Halo...asides from possible special effects failure...or somehow try to remove a lot of the violence in order to market it to as many people as possible...

Hey that movie was actually enjoyable...in a "hehehe they're all taking everything so seriously!" kind of way....and the whole propaganda-ish thing going on.

I enjoyed that film several times more than I enjoyed many films being made nowadays...my head still hurts watching the remake of Clash Of The Titans...story quality may be subjective, but god damn that was poorly written...it's like several different people writing the story for their own individual segments of the movie, and they're not allowed to talk with each other.

I'd never watch a Halo movie. The plot of the games sounds stupid enough.

I do think it'd be very financially successful as a movie, though. Even if it sucks, enough people will show up for it, and that's what matters for the studio. Even if everyone buys their tickets then leaves, that's a success.

[up][up] Agreed on Clash Of The Titans. It's a shame, because I loved the original.

My biggest problem with the film...among a bunch of other nearly as bad problems, is how the film missed out on a perfectly good opportunity to portray Hades as a non-evil character for once.(and Medusa too...to a lesser extent)

Every greek god has done their share of dick moves, but Hades, as far as I've read, has the smallest dick dick move of them all. The worse he's done is kidnap Persephone...which is small compared to what other god's did.

Yet Hades is still portrayed as Satan...without the whole christianity thing going on.

Speaking of more profitable shows Hollywood shoulda made live-action films out of...I wanna see a live-action Yu Gi Oh...it will be So Bad, It's Good at best...but the concept of people solving lifes problems with card games is crazy enough to prevent it from being So Bad Its Horrible...so it's either So Bad Its Really Good or So Bad Its Not As Good.

Also...I wanna see Harpy Girl and Dark Magician Girl in live action...

No wonder he's pissed off at the others, then.

My main concern is that the people making this movie will make the same mistake virtually everyone I've told Death Note about has made and think, "Oh, a cartoon. That must mean it's for kids!" Then they'll market it to the wrong audience, getting new fans of Death Note in the wrong age group, and produce a watered-down, sugarcoated version that will lose appeal with both the fans who are familiar with the anime/manga, and the new fans who were expecting some kind of adventure similar in tone to One Piece or Spirited Away (not that those are bad, but they're not quite the same tone as Death Note).

Or, you know, we have another shit-slinging excuse along the lines of Dragonball: Evolution. I demand that someone shoots me in the event that ever gets produced.

I think the fact that the premise involves mass murder and the word "death" is in the title will maybe help avoid that a bit.

That never stops anyone. A less blatant example, perhaps, but Coraline the movie versus the book.

I hate it when people say Hollywood like it's just one giant studio that shits out movies.

This film is being made by Warner Brothers, how about we look at Warner Brother's track record with adaptions and not all of Hollywood's.

But it's sooo much easier to type Hollywood. Holly, and woods. That, and it's often safe to assume some things would happen...like they'd fudge up the races, screw some parts of the story, etc. etc. that almost every studio makes...even though they're so easy to not screw up.

Besides, I doubt anyone here ever pays attention to specifically who makes who...

Exceptions of course goes to Avatar, who is made by that Titanic guy, and The Last Airbender, who is made by that guy who knows how to make good trailers, but bad films.

The plot of the games sounds stupid enough.

It sounds like you're ComplainingAboutVideoGamesYouDontPlay. Considering there is far more Halo media then just the games.

Two words for you. Starship Troopers.

That movie did everything it set out to do. Lambaste the book.

The problem of adapting anime is that it has a whole different style from superhero comics and western literary, and the fact that they tend to have an on-going arc that makes it hard to make into a movie series. so that why there hadn't been a lot of adaptions yet.

However, there bound to be a lot of hits and bombs in the next five years. Hopefully producers will learn from Dragonball, and preserve that Japanese feel.

Personally, someone should make a Live Action TV series instead of trying to make a condensed movie series. I can't see Bleach or One Piece succeed as a movie.

Well, I can, but I see them as bloody messes akin to Dragonball Evolution. Funny. That's kind of how I see the Death Note movie, too. Imagine that.

About the whole Zac Efron mess, I'd honestly prefer him not to get the role. I haven't seen him do anything that shows he's capable of playing a psychopath with a God complex. However, he has been trying to move towards more adult roles, and to be fair, Me And Orson Welles wasn't his fault, the script was just shit. If he gets the role, he'll (most likely) either butcher it and receive the burning wrath of a million suns, or perhaps this will be his big break-out role and we'll all stare dumbfounded at the screen, saying, "Hey, He Really Can Act." My hopes aren't high for the second option, but you never know.

I like the concept in general I wouldn't mind a new death note were they adapt the concept but not the characters...actually I'd prefer that I have a feeling mainstream American audience wouldn't like Kira or L very much anyways and the execs probably wouldn't help that.

I agree. I'd rather they take the basic concept of the death note, itself, and use different characters. I can't see any depiction of L or Light being good enough. Especially L.
