[up][up]Why would it not make sense for the fountain to kept both of them alive? The time they got is based on the lifetime from the person who drink from the other cup, doesn't it? Maybe Ponce de Leon's time just ran out first.

So wait, didn't the last Pirates of the Caribbean movie bomb? I'm constantly surprised by how many sequels are made to films that barely made it off the runway. Is there a new director involved or something? Did the director come up with an idea that the producers found really appealing?

I certainly hope this is a good one. The good Pot C movies tend to range from great to fantastic, even if the whole pirates theme is a bit old. Maybe it's just Depp's flamboyance, but it's still very refreshing.

Leave your dignity at the door.

Is it bad of me to want to think that Jack was more heroic in this film because Will and Liz were a good influence on him?

And someone had to be. In the first films, it was easier to make Jack the mysterious trickster because you had Will's point of view. In this, you saw everything from Jack's POV, and we've seen him enough that it's easier to predict what he's going to do. And, well, he's being compared to Barbossa and Blackbeard; most anyone would look heroic next to those guys.

I think the priest was characterized like that to give the fans who like pretty heroic boys someone to squee over. And I liked the ambiguity of his fate, although I think if she was going to eat him she would have just done it and not told him she could save him first, it's not like he would have been able to resist. I like the theory posted earlier that she was taking him to the Dutchman. And the more historically accurate mermaids were cool (although I don't remember the tentacle rape part), as were the voodoo!zombies.

And I knew it wasn't going to happen, but I kinda wanted Will to show up with the Dutchman at one point to grab some dead sailors and be all like "Hey Jack."

No, it did not "bomb". According to Wikipedia, "At World's End was a box office hit, becoming the most successful film of 2007, grossing approximately $960 million worldwide, and making it the second most successful in the series, behind Dead Man's Chest."

Yeah, the sequels might have a mediocre reception with the critics, but they made piles of money.

So next movie, what do you think we're gonna see? Bermuda triangle? Atlantis? Jack meeting a puppet maker inside a whale's stomach?

I just saw it. I think my biggest problem with the movie was that it felt like it was killing time with boring filler until the two crews got to the island. Plus it had so many unexplained things. But the acting was good and the fight scenes were decent. My friend didn't like, but his taste is shit.

Now I wonder what the relationship between Blackbeard and Davy Jones was.

I thought this film was brilliant. We'd offloaded the two planks from the first three, their replacements took up a lot less screen time, the Spaniards did what Spaniards do best go to Central/South America and trash the joint which actually came as a pretty cool surprise and Lovejoy got to be scary for bit.

Can't wait for the next one.

I just saw it today and I thought it was fucking fantastic. I loved every minute of it and I am sdlfkjasdflkjasdlkasdjf fangirling the hell out of Philip the missionary and Syrena and their relationship.

Also, Penelope Cruz and Blackbeard were fantastic. And Johnny Depp was fabulous as always and so was Barbossa.

That was Crazy Awesome, though it started very fast and never really slowed down enough to let you work out what was going on at some points. Maybe that's because it's quite late here.

I admit, I went to the cinema two times to see the movie and ffff, I'd do it again! I thought the film was fantastic. Along with the first movie it's my favourite of the Pot C films. All the acting and the action scenes were very good. Kudos to Johnny, Ian, Geoffrey and co.

And wow. Those mermaids... I expected the "old cliché mermaid" but the producers somehow managed to make it seem new and really cool.

Does anyone else think the awesome Elizabeth Swann was unceremoniously replaced by two Mary Sues?

I didn't feel that she was a Mary Sue; in the end she lost to the Spanish and got manipulated by Jack, and she didn't really do anything of note other than get Jack pressganged into Blackbeard's crew, and that could have been accomplished by anybody.

I did sort of roll my eyes at her fighting skill but that didn't make any less sense than Elizabeth's taking a level in badass.
