I prefer the cartoony aesthetic of Mega Man Classic, but to each their own.

I really want the next Mega Man stage to have the obnoxious disappearing blocks. Can we all agree to that?

I sure said that!

I'm also a much bigger fan of Mega Man Classic. Mega Man is my favorite third-party character currently in Smash and I wouldn't trade him for the world.

Random hypothetical: how would you guys feel about a Microsoft/Xbox character coming to Smash? Banjo and Kazooie make the most sense, since they used to be first-party Nintendo characters, but Master Chief would probably turn a lot more heads (and he wouldn't feel so out of place, after Snake and Bayonetta).

On the other hand, most Halo fans don't buy Nintendo consoles and most Nintendo fans don't give one whit about Halo, plus Xbox stuff in general isn't popular in Japan.

I'd much rather have a Killer Instinct character, but both choices are overall excellent for their own merits. I'd probably choose Master Chief though, since he's more iconic of the two.

Anyway, as long as they can make him fit in with a proper weapon, sounds good to me. His iconic gun needs to be there, otherwise it doesn't feel right. Not that toning it down to be laser bullets is necessarily a big deal, though.

I kinda feel like if there's going to be a Rare character (excluding Donkey Kong Country characters), it has to be Banjo and Kazooie. They're the closest thing Rare has to a mascot, unless you count relics like Sabreman, and given how much Nintendo used to hype them as the big new IP for the Nintendo 64 era, it'd be great to see them "come home."

So I was goofing off doing some free-for-alls against random Level 9 computers, and had this interesting match.

Even at level 9, they don't understand that the Home-Run Bat is both easy to dodge and in your best interest to dodge.

If we're talking Microsoft characters, then Minecraft, which is owned by Microsoft, could technically count. Steve could be pretty fun, and out of all the indie games that have been released, I'd say Minecraft has probably the best worldwide appeal purely based on popularity.

Though of course I'd also like Banjo-Kazooie or Master Chief. Just throwing Steve out there.

How cool would it be if Steve got in and you could change his appearance by uploading a Minecraft Skin?

[up]I doubt that'd happen if Steve got in.

I still have no clue how I'd feel if Steve got in as I really don't care about Minecraft (lack of interest).

That Notch guy seems like a real asshole, so I don't want any of my money finding its way into his pocket. I'm against the idea of Steve in Smash for that reason (plus, I've never actually played Minecraft, which doesn't look that appealing to me personally).

I'm pretty sure Notch sold Minecraft to Microsoft and retired, so I don't think he'd be getting any money from it anyway.

Regardless, I wouldn't want Steve? in SSB. I like Minecraft, but I don't think it's a good fit for SSB, and Steve? isn't even much of a character.

Oh, is that so? Well, I agree with you either way.

What if Master Chief and/or Banjo and Kazooie do get into Smash, though? What would their specials be like? Banjo's Final Smash has to be the Daddy T. Rex, right?

From what I understand Notch has donated a lot of his money to charity. I know he gave a substantial amount during a recent-ish GDQ.

I was thinking a Banjo-Kazooie Final Smash (which I think I saw someone somewhere else suggest, too) would be Kazooie's dragon transformation from Banjo-Tooie.

Master Chief getting into smash is about as likely as Darth Vader or Naruto showing up. At least Banjo has a tiny chance of happening.

[up] TBH, any non-game character getting in, even though there's no chance of that happening, would be pretty base-breaking.

At this point Nintendo should just try and partner with Shonen Jump and whatever other Manga companies to make a smash-like crossover game. Tell me it wouldn't make a killing.

[up]Those were Japan-only.

Because of rights issues. Which is probably why we won't get an official "Smash Bros. vs. Shonen Jump" game.

They've released at least one outside Japan. Goku and Naruto are in it

And it didn't sell because those games aren't very good.

Granted, I've faced some human opponents in For Fun who apparently didn't either (already posted here before by me, but relevant.)

Master Chief's issue is that it would be essentially advertising Halo on a system outside of the PC or the Xbox ones. Which is why it's unlikely he'll be in. However, he does fit the key criteria for getting in as a 3rd party; He has a gaming history and originated in a video game. Yeah, that's kind of it. As for his weapons, my issue is properly making it toned down enough overall while still capturing the character well enough. It doesn't have to be perfect, but if his iconic gun isn't there... yeah. Also, many probably are under the impression they need an appearance on a Nintendo system. That was actually a mistranslation. Being on a Nintendo System can potentially make them more likely, but it's more of a courtesy, not a requirement.

As for Banjo, outside of the n64, it had no serious impact on gaming's history like Halo did, which already puts it lower than Master Chief as a character duo. I think they'd have a chance via the ballot, but when it comes to being iconic, they're not exactly the highest among Rare's stuff. Killer Instinct and Battletoads(as well as Donkey Kong Country) are their biggest and most influential series of all time. Battletoads is pretty much the brawler and helped out a lot(although I can't remember the details of its impact, but it also was big enough to gain a show, which quite a few video games never did, surprisingly). Killer Instinct was the legitimate definer of combos(it's a glitch in Street Fighter II, but KI decided to make it an official mechanic), but most importantly, added the Combo Breaker, which is in tons of fighting games today(also basically the same thing as a Counter move in Smash by design, although there is a major difference in how the mechanic works, but the idea is to stop and counter an attack. There's mechanical differences, but the concept is used heavily today in many fighting games now).

That's why I believe Banjo doesn't have a big chance right now. It also doesn't help that its Xbox legacy went poorly. Halo and Killer Instinct on the other hand? Still huge as well as relevant. That said, I don't think any Microsoft character will get in bar something like the ballot or a crossover appearance(I.E. a Nintendo Halo game, or Killer Instinct being on the VC) or a promotional point. It's mostly due to Microsoft owning them and not seeing a good reason to allow their characters on it if they don't get something out of it. Just basic business stuff. Also, same points goes to Nintendo wanting to promote Microsoft characters. The issue isn't much on Sakurai/whoever would be directing Smash at the time either, since it's really the other two companies agreeing to it. 3rd party companies are easier to deal with since they're not direct competition. Notably, if Rare was pure 3rd party, we could see any of their characters in Smash far easier. And I don't just mean the Kongs they currently own.
