You know what's a total bummer? When go for a grab and you get attacked as soon as you actually grab the opponent, so that you're launched and the enemy has what is probably less cooldown time than if they simply missed.

[up]That's the classic fighting game triangle. Attack beats grab, grab beats shield, and shield beats attack.

Trouble being, of course, that shield has no win condition- It's purely defensive, while the other two can be used as a counter-offensive.

I sure said that!

On the contrary, blocking means that you get to punish with an attack on your own right after.

Theoretically anyway. Smash is a bit weird with that stuff.

Is it just me or does the framrate seem lower than actually in the game?

Nope, I'm not very good at this game...

I just hit 100 losses in For Glory with my Greninja profile, after 779 matches.

Granted there were some times where I forgot to change profiles when I changed from Greninja to another character so this isn't entirely accurate but whatever. 87% win record wooo~

And before anyone quips, yes, I know I have terrible edge and air game. Or more like terrible everything game.

Least I'm not just a Charizard or Lil' Mac who knows only one move.

I really don't like how Charizard takes extra special bonus damage when Flare Blitzing a shield, because I only use Flare Blitz as a surprise attack, a desperate recovery, or as a last ditch attempt if I end up floundering helplessly in a match due to extreme skill gap between me and my opponent.

Not to mention that, by Pokemon rules, Flare Blitz should only damage you for a percentage of the damage it actually inflicts.

I wouldn't mind seeing grabbing reworked in Smash Bros. to be a bit more... interesting? I mean I super highly doubt that we'll see any major changes in a patch, because I think at its core, grabbing and throwing are unbalanced and just difficult to counter if the grabber understands even one combo out of it. It's not really something a small update like "added two frames to all endlag on throws" can fix.

On one hand, yeah, I love that Smash Bros. is trying to embrace the world of True Combos and what not, and grabs highlight that especially well in Smash 4, but on the other, there's some really boring combinations that stem from throws that often immediately give a character a huge advantage, often with no downside. Even if a character does break out of a grab, the worse result is that now you're both on even ground and can react. If you miss the grab, you generally have enough time to go defensive in your own way, similar to a regularly missed attack.

But that's just my opinion. It's not game breaking, but there's definitely an imbalance centered around it and I'm sure especially the rookie players are not fond of it when they're on the receiving end.

Does anyone else when playing as Samus just pummel the opponent when you grab them?

And not throw the opponent? I guess it's a nice way to bait him/her into thinking you'll follow up with a throw, but I don't usually just grab and pummel.

I do try to remember to pummel when I grab someone. Although this applies to any character I play as, not just Samus.

I pummel with ROB when they're at the high percentages, try to ensure I can up-throw them to kill, and with Lucina, I don't ever really bother going for a throw since her pummels are quick and her reach decent enough to follow up a breakaway.

It can be a decent habit to press grab twice when going for one, usually gives you that extra pummel, and if not, you're still in the endlag for missing the grab so it's not like it matters.

There's apparently a podcast about Sakurai's reactions to feedback and his work ethics as told by an employee. I'm linking to Reddit because the post has a summary of what was said (and because Reddit apparently "hugged" the original link to the cast to death), but the link the actual podcast should be there.

Sorry, I never bothered learning how to play Robin. The whole "suddenly, you are temporarily weaker than you were before" angle scared me away.

Try pummeling someone by/over a ledge until they break out.

It's always fun to see the ensuing reactions. And half of the time, deaths.
