Now that they show the Boss Galaga, that reminds me of something I heard.

Does anyone else think Pac-Man's grab is the Boss Galaga abduction beam he was briefly shown using? It makes sense.

Probably, I figured it was his grab when I first saw it to be honest.

Oh, but there's another thing; If the Boss Galaga is a separate item, does this make a point against the S-Flag being a Namco-only equivalent to ATs?

Pic of the day. If you get caught in the Boss Galaga item's tractor beam, it will carry you away to the top of the screen. You can shoot it down, but it won't join you in battle for double the firepower.

Oh my God yes. This is officially my absolute favorite thing ever done in the Smash series and I seriously love that he actually mentioned that trick from the original arcade game (as Galaga might be one of my most played Namco arcade games as a kid—I had the Namco Museum GBA pak and typically defaulted to that and Mc Pac Mannote ).

Huh. Didn't think that was a reference (never played Galaga).

Speaking of Toon Link, does anyone know which voice they are using for him this time? I know his incarnation from Spirit Tracks has a different voice, but Toon Link looks to be a mashup of both incarnations this time (drives the Spirit Train when not in use, but also carries the Wind Waker while keeping Wind Waker Link's equipment).

Also still waiting for a new Kirby stage to show up. I am glad the Halberd is back though, even if it means that Another Dimension/Starcutter can't really be a stage without being a copy.

On an unrelated note, getting a bit annoyed at the tournament players for smash again. After how they acted towards Brawl and after the Smash 4 E3 tournament, it took a lot of time for me to tolerate them again. Now they are completely dismissing (and some are already hating) Smash 4, because it is not Melee 2 (many already calling it Brawl 2, with all of the negative implications they apply to that). I have even heard some say they are not buying it now because of that.

Their loss, I suppose. I would rather have it be it's own thing instead of Melee 2.

Honestly, if those people (Vocal Minority I know) can look at the finals of the E3 tournament, the finals of the Comic-Con tournament, the thousand and one posts Sakurai made regarding the moves, skills and strengths/weaknesses of all the characters and the repeated saying by Nintendo that the E3 gameplay will not reflect the final product, but still believe it will just be "Brawl 2.0" (which in of itself is stupid because even vanilla Brawl has a competitive scene), they probably never had hope for the damn thing to begin with and already had that mindset going in. Those people are just content with staying with Project M or Melee, despite everything that they are doing to make it its own thing. It's either "Melee 2.0" or bust, and that is really facepalm worthy because it's as if the level headed competitive players and people interested in competitive Smash has to defend its potential as a competitive fighter before the game even releases.

Whatever. Let them be content with Melee/Project M and I'll be enjoying Smash 4 competitively and casually.

That's what you have to do. Play the game at your pace and your way, and if you wish, share your thoughts with open-minded people..... like ourselves. tongue I too have learned to ignore the hateful minorities (though in my case, it was with the Zelda fanbase, not Smash). In some series it's virtually impossible to please everybody so the developers pay more attention to the majoritary feedback instead of the minoritary ones. Smash is just one of many examples, and it happened because one of the games played in the style the vocal minority wants (note that even the N64 game wasn't as fast-paced as Melee). Sakurai is well aware of this as well, hence his role as a Trolling Creator.

Even some of the pro-Melee fans are aware of the unlikeliness of Smash 4 being "exactly like Melee", hence why they regard the game as a fluke in every sense of the word (think of the Smash equivalent of Majora's Mask).

[up][up]Exactly. Many competitive Smash players are like Pokémon genwunners - they hold so tightly to a single holy grail that anything that isn't a carbon copy of said holy grail is automatic trash no matter how many improvements are made or how sensible the changes are. They are the extremely loud babies in the nursery who refuse to stop crying no matter how hard anyone tries to please them. I can understand their problems with Brawl, but to write off 4 as Brawl 2 in the face of clear improvements is a disgusting case of Fan Dumb (or Hate Dumb, however you look at it). Let the excessively whiny Vocal Minority keep screaming. The rest of us will enjoy the new games with their improvements. Unfortunately, this particular Vocal Minority is hard to ignore because it contains the most visible people in the Smash fandom.

It sounds harsh, but don't act like it's not true.

As a competitive player myself I've actually seen a ton more positivity from places that aren't online forums. Smashboards isn't a good sample of the competitive scene in the same way idiots on SRK and Eventhubs aren't for the general fighting game community. It's the internet. By contrast I've seen a lot of pro players in my local scene and in the overall scene show (cautious) optimism towards the game actually having a following, they just have a few issues with the current build (Namely, that you can survive at insanely high percentages, most moves are unsafe on hit encouraging lame play, and impractical dashdancing). Nintendo seems more than willing to listen to that feedback and adjust.

Of course, there were a bunch of people live at EVO that booed when Reggie mentioned Smash 4, and you can't help but shake your head at them, but it's still a Vocal Minority. It'll probably go over like Street Fighter IV, people complain about stuff but they still play it competitively anyway.

[up]Different people have different opinions of what's fun. A lot of people like playing competitively because it's fun to talk about strageties and ways to win and little nuances in the engine. Stuff like that.

I honestly think this Smash will do fine competively. Haters are gonna hate.

I tend to ignore all the competition and focus on what happens IN the game.

I'm glad that it's popular to have real tournaments, at least. More people playing it means more reason to keep making it better.

I don't see a problem with that statement. I'm sure even the purely competitive people play Melee or Project M because it's fun.
