Ah, that is perhaps the most appropriate write-up there could be. Truly a masterpiece Fawriel, I certainly wouldn't have had the guts to do something so subtle, yet so thought-provoking.

I think a blank write-up suits Yukari fine.
For some reason leaving it blank like that is both awesome and yet makes me feel like I shouldn't say anything about Yukari. *
I agree, especially since Yukari seems to have the most random amount of interpretations I've seen in the fanon.

What is Yukari the write up posits? Yukari is, the write-up answers.
Yukari is Yukari.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersHistory-eating powers are go!
Why is the write-up blank? Because Yukari is perhaps the most enigmatic character of them all! First of all, we must do the detective work! What can you find out about her? What are the cold, hard facts? What is lie, and what is truth, and where is the border between them...?
I'm counting on you!
She's one of the major forces guiding Gensokyo's development and continued existence, whether intentionally or not. What her motivations are is a mystery, if she has any at all. In fact, I suspect even SHE doesn't know what she's planning. More than a thousand years old, a being of immense power and (I believe) the only character so far shown to be travelling regularly between Gensokyo and our world. When she uses her gaps, it is said she goes into a space where no one can follow, which would indicate her teleportation happens through some whole other dimension. I really don't have much more to write about Yukari at the moment, except that since recently I can't unsee a certain JJBA Stand when she uses her gap powers.
Now I feel it would be more amusing if the blank spot had a picture of one of Yukari's gaps in it. Just to add to the "Who dun it?!" "Why she gotta be like that?" "mystery"...
I actually highlighted her write-up just in case.
WHO IS THIS LOSERThe Ia MP!Evening Star link is broken. And That's Terrible.
Is there any way to allow other tropers to edit these posts? It would allow us to take some of the strain off of Faw
you'll then have a grave in the clouds where you won't lie too crampedThe Administration could make everyone who posts in here a moderator. What could possibly go wrong?
Ah, Yukari. A character I should pay attention to more.
Anyway, my Yukari can be summed up as "unpredictable". She would be off fucking with people For the Lulz and causing a ruckus....if she wasn't a lazy youkai. On the other hand, get her off her ass, and she flips from being a Genki Girl to a a Emotionless Girl to everything in between. With Yukari, you're rolling dice, and you don't know what she's gonna do.
Like Ran, Yukari is perpetually bored; when you are so powerful, how can you entertain yourself? This is why she jumps on the idea of leaving Gensokyo for the Roudo No Genso so quickly; so she can fight the best, and see if she is as strong as she thinks she is (You should know that my Yukari is haughty. Very haughty). When she can fight the very best, she's energetic to the max, fighting with all her soul and strength. This is, to me, the true Yukari. There simply was no one powerful enough in Gensokyo to entertain her, so she lazed around. When pushed to the limit, Yukari shows off her true colors.
When off the battlefield, Yukari likes to suggest odd ways of doing things, always thinking in....well, "youkai-like" ways. When no lazing about, she loves to have fun and goof around with people, almost like a child. Yukari is....odd.
Yukari randomly lets rationality and blind emotion run her. On a Martial Arts/Magic split, she excels at both, but her long dress makes it hard to do hand-to-hand.
These quotes from premilinary drafts of Ea CM show her off best:
"Oh, ho ho ho! You underestimate me; as a youkai, you will never understand my actions. Being a youkai yourself, you should know this all too well."
"I am not any normal being, even by youkai standards. I think in ways that would contort your human mind in insanity. But sometimes I cannot even understand myself...."
"I am not longer bored....pushed to my limit, I show off my true power! Now, I can be free again, to fight the greatest; now, I can no longer be so lazy! NEEECCCCRRRRROOOOOFAAAAAAANNNNTTAAAASSSSIIIIAAAAAA!!!!!"
Power level in Ea CM: 12,000 (this makes her the strongest Touhou Girl)
...No one minds my posts here, right? I'll stop if you want me to....
"Who wants to hear about good stuff when the bottom of the abyss of human failure that you know doesn't exist is so much greater?"-WraithThat kind of post is exactly what this topic is for.
Actually, the thread regulars could split writeup duties in the future. What do you say, Faw?
Uncommon Sense
Yukari is often thought to be insane, capricious, trolling, or other things of that nature. This is not especially accurate. She is a being perfectly adapted to living in a crazy fantasy world. The rules of fantasy that replaced Gensoukyou's natural laws have a logic alien to humans and even most youkai. Yukari has a mind that finds them natural. Despite her appearance, she is possibly the being furthest removed from humans in the entire series
Plus, she doesn't like explaining herself, leading to no explanation most of the time, and poor ones the rest
We need a gap emoticon. And maybe a yukkuri. Anyway, write-up:
Yukari is the Youkai of Boundaries. And here's the thing with boundaries - they are inherently unstable. The boundary between night and day is ever-moving. The boundary between shore and sea is constantly in flux. The boundary between two countries is a potential tinderbox that ignites a war. The boundary between truth and lies is a matter of contention.
And there is Yukari, poised between all possibilities. Her ground state is at rest, where she attains the peace and balance of inaction. But if something shifts - some outside influence, or her own fits of whimsy - there's no telling what she will do. Friend or foe, prankster or mentor, calculating schemer or uninterested bystander, she could be anything.
Her laziness is quite a blessing, considering what she's capable of when she gets bored. She can weave complex plots if she feels like it, or she might find herself unable to work up the energy to stop the villain from stealing spring. She's a lot like the Hakurei Border she helped create, an all-pervading presence in Gensokyo, even if you don't interact with it directly. And if you do have to deal with it, you usually wish you didn't. Fortunately, most of the time it just sits on the periphery of your life, out of sight but definitely not out of mind.
I find Yukari's theme to be quite appropriate - it sounds like something to accompany an unstoppable Lovecraftian entity beyond mortal understanding, but is nonetheless playful, almost friendly. Not Good, not Evil, but thoroughly Chaotic Neutral.
Also, though this remix is utterly ruined by gratuitous sound effects and sound bites, it reminds me that Yukari would be terrifying in an all-out battle. I can see her striding through a warzone with her umbrella up, smiling coyly into her fan, as she uses her gaps to cause friendly fire incidents before just {{portal cut}ting her attackers into gibs. Really, gapping a train into opponents is showing remarkable restraint for her.
I was gonna say, "man, it'd be creepy if Yukari's eyes were actually gaps." Turns out I was right. And "fun with texture effects" is just beautiful, there's no other way to say it.
Picdump (starting from the oldest Yukari stuff and working forward to around page 400):

- Hello moon
- No idea what she's lounging on

Current earworm: "The White Witch"... And once again, it's the middle of the night! I'll just quickly dig through Hylarn's picdump in the hope of finding a good picture for a new avatar!
- I don't know what she's doing, either, but that is a great picture. That smile is kinda Mona-Lisa-style otherworldly, isn't it?
- Abandoned station is very sweet, too...
- Yeah, it doesn't get a whole lot more "illustrative" than the full body picture. But isn't there a version with a less absurd resolution...?
- Gothloli is actually a good style for her, both in art and fashion.
- Hair! Although I'd like it for an avatar, it doesn't really lend itself well to the format. Alas.
And what followed was sleep.
Once we get back around to there, I can do the characters from Highly Responsive to Prayers if you want. I can't imagine it would take very long; after all, your write-ups seem to consist mainly of canonical information and general information about how fans use the canonical information.
We get around to a character that people actually care about, and promptly get absolutely no posts. What gives?
People still busy writing their treatises on the character?
Are you implying that people don't care about Ran? For shame.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersI already wrote stuff in the last topic. I'm running dry here!
Um... Yukari is the gardener and Gensokyo is the garden. She's not a control-freak in the sense that she likes watching how people will grow when left alone, but she considers certain other people weeds to be removed. Fertilizer and trimming are applied as appropriate. As the metaphor implies, she implicitly thinks of herself as a higher sort of being than everyone else. Flowers are pretty, but they aren't people.
She is the youkai among youkai. Her thought processes may lead her to the right places, but they make no sense to anyone else, except possibly Yuyuko. While to everyone else it seems like she enjoys talking in riddles, she thinks she's being straightforward. Her kind of genius is the kind that causes her to wonder why no one else gets it. Of course, she's gotten used to that kind of reaction over her long life, but she still has no idea what's wrong with everyone else. Everything's so simple, isn't it?
As a consequence of this, she doesn't do things "for the lulz". She does things for very good reasons that make no sense to anyone else. She spends most of her time sleeping, so she has little free time to spare. Everything she does is very important to her, somehow or other. She thinks 3 steps ahead and 5 steps to the left whenever she does anything. Again, this is not due to creativity but rather a certain kind of limitation to her thought processes. She doesn't know how to plan normally.

I think I'd be inclined to reverse the analogy - computers are like shikigami in the sense that they serve us, but shikigami aren't necessarily like computers. Ran is like a computer, sure, but Chen is probably a different sort of shikigami.
So if in that interview Aya had said, "Sure! I'll give shikigami-ing for you a shot!", what changes would have come over her? Do you think Ran's nature was changed simply by becoming a shikigami, or do you think that her computer-esque qualities simply made her a good choice?
EDIT: I'm just Percy Page-topper today, jeez.
