So many brilliant little details in this episode. The beautiful alternate zeerusty title sequence, the Observer and the lake, Nina's arm, Eric Stoltz in Back To The Future, and so on.
We're not just men of science, we're men of TROPE!Though notably there's still much left unsaid... how Bell ended up on the other side, the fire...

Do you highlight everything looking for secret messages?Man. I loved that title sequence.
That said...hell of an episode. Ever since it was revealed that Peter was from the other side, I was wondering what the deal was with the alternate Walter. And...well, it's a pretty fucked-up deal is what it is. I was rather hoping that it wouldn't have turned out to be that way, to be honest. Man.

I was always skeptical of that "arm cancer" thingy. Also, Walter is willing to possibly doom two universes to save his son. Goddamn.
You've lost. You're the Bomb Squad after the bomb's gone off. I'm the blast ongoing.^ Losing an arm to cancer is much more likely than losing it in an interdimensional portal. That's a scientific fact.
We're not just men of science, we're men of TROPE!These scientific facts of yours just don't hold water in a world of mad science and dimensional instability.
Also, does this mean that Walter is responsible for all Pattern events ever?
You've lost. You're the Bomb Squad after the bomb's gone off. I'm the blast ongoing. To Tangent, I assume he got there the same way Walter did. And I thought it'd been pretty strongly hinted that the assistant died when young Olivia freaked out and lost control of her pyrokinesis.
Everyone Going faster than you is a maniac, and those going slower than you are idiots. George CarlinI just want to clarify something about the 4-8 episode, so if you Do Not Want spoilers don't hilight. Is Nick, who was briefly alluded to, still alive?
One thing that struck me was that Diane Kruger is a much bigger movie-star type than you would expect to see in the role she plays in the eppy.

Goal: Clear, Concise and WittyNeep: Well, I don't think so. It's briefly mentioned in the pilot that a Fringe event occurred in the Indian Ocean, and as the Pattern is supposed to occur around specific points where reality is collapsing, I can't see how Walter did that. Actually, he might not be responsible for the current crisis at all, if you consider that the invasion by the shape-shifters appears to have been lead from the outside, and it's possible that it may have developed independently from Walter and Bell.
Doctor Left: Don't know, but I can't think why he wouldn't be.
Personally, I thought that both the recent episodes were very cool. I especially liked how lots of plot elements that had been unused for a while (The Observer, Nina Sharp, etc.) were reintroduced.

Time travel mechanics always confuse me a bit, but it seems Fringe runs on a strange sort of Stable Time Loop? And how is the guy accelerating himself past the speed of light if he's taking the energy from the point of arrival?
You've lost. You're the Bomb Squad after the bomb's gone off. I'm the blast ongoing.Obviously the energy's sent back in time to the future.
Do you highlight everything looking for secret messages?I think the understanding was that each time Peck traveled back, the previous trip didn't happen. Hence why he didn't appear next to himself on the train, and why he claimed that everyone would be alive again once he was done.
We're not just men of science, we're men of TROPE!Fast Eddie: Agreed, Diane Kruger was a "big" actor for that role. She's been Joshua Jackson's girlfriend for quite a while, which is how they got her for such a bit part. (And if you already knew this, pardon me for running my mouth. lol)
No, I didn't know that. Who is dating whom is not the sort of thing I would notice. Thanks for the info. Should have known there was a personal connection of some sort.
Goal: Clear, Concise and WittyOh, this is getting gooood.
Do you highlight everything looking for secret messages?I spoke a bit prematurely. Really good. The weirdness quotient has spiked.
Bit miffed they had to go and kill off the other Cortexiphan kids though. Despite the current events, it seems they'll still be rather clingy to the status quo.
Do you highlight everything looking for secret messages?(tangential edit: the red titles were fun)
A bit less of an epic-showdown finale than it was advertised as. Which is a good thing... Walternate is going to be Big Bad for a good while longer, it seems.
Fridge Logic that should hopefully get addressed... Otherlivia presumably wasn't a Cortexiphan subject, so how did they make the slide?
And what happened to Newton?

Do you highlight everything looking for secret messages?I let this show get away from me bad...
You can't even write racist abuse in excrement on somebody's car without the politically correct brigade jumping down your throat!@Tangent 128: Good question. Otherliva is just a Fringe agent. Maybe William Bell can hold open the poral?
icon by deralteNorthwest Passage. My goodness, that was one of the the best episodes (bar possibly Peter) that I've seen. This series really hit it's stride after Jacksonville, I think.
Well, Walternate turned up, although I don't see how people could really miss that.
Was anyone else a little disappointed that the murderer was actually unrelated to Newton? The whole episode, bar the phone calls, the encounter with Newton in the woods, and maybe the conversation between Peter and Broyles and, of course, the end were totally irrelevant to the plot as a whole.
"One thing, though- apparently the eldest goat is the bastard child of Muhammad Ali and the Hulk." ~ Exelixi, on The Three Billy Goats Gruff.^ Just curious, are you watching them as they air or are you catching up? I don't know where you're posting from, or where the finale's aired yet.
Do you highlight everything looking for secret messages?I'm British. The finale hasn't aired yet here because of weird schedule breaks meaning we haven't had any Fringe in two weeks. First part is on tonight here actually. I'm looking forward to it.

Walternate is definitely gonna be a serious antagonist. He's got to be pissed at Walter for what he did.
