I haven't looked since lunch yesterday (about 20 hours ago), but I do think that ultimately it should be chopped from ATT. As entertaining as it may be, it is pushing legitimate issues down the line each time some troper posts a new Translation Trainwreck version of the initial screed.

Going to have to agree with that. ATT is just barely readable anymore.

I got a look at that. I am rather amused. It seems like the community stung a nerve there to boot.

Am I the only person who thought that the Ask the Tropers thing was not that funny?

Eh, it was amusing to read, but most of the fun was writing the parodies. Or at least, I had a lot of fun with the Lovecraft one.

[up][up] Which one? The thing we archived or the thing made by Barry M? The archived one was funny mainly due to the other people's input. The Barry M thing was definitely not funny. -_-

The archived thing, with all the "translations".

I didn't find it that funny either. It was amusing enough at first, but I lost interest once it started to become an Overly Long Gag, mainly because I was actually concerned about the outcomes of some of the real queries at the time.

Were it posted in another venue, I would probably have had more patience for it (then again, I also might not have actually seen it).

^ Pretty much my position on the issue.

(If MOFW weren't "I like this" I'd argue that it doesn't qualify, but that ship has sailed a looong time ago, as with the various crowning moments. tongue )

Please keep in mind that this thread is not for arguing about whether a particular post deserved a MOFW or not. The person who listed it did think so.

OMG! That shit was hilarious. Troll catches a period, tropers respond with a yawn and famous troper wit.

God almighty I'm proud to be a troper sometimes (sometimes meaning 97.7% of the time).

Komodin thank you for preserving this comedic episode.

Meh. I still think it's a bad idea to celebrate trolls.

It wasn't a celebration of a troll, it was a celebration of how tropers mock trolls.

Isn't that usually called "feeding the troll?"

#4968: Jun 11th 2013 at 12:02:02 AM

No. The trolls got banned right away. We all had fun and a good laugh.

Here's the thing; Nobody was frustrated at the troll and he didn't do jack to us. If his attempt was to get us angry, which is what a troll does, he failed spectacularly at it and we all had a good time.

I highly doubt we did jack to make the troll happy.

Yeah, Trolls eat attention, but only certain types of attention. If you can starve them, great. If you can poison them, so much the better.

I think the post from the "obviously-not-the-same-person-as-the-OP" handle screaming in all-caps about how everyone who replied in that ATT thread was an idiot was indication enough that the troll probably didn't enjoy the response they got.

It's sort of trolling the troll. I wouldn't say that that sort of thing is generally a good idea, as I think maybe something like 90% of trolls would consider that as "desirable" an outcome of their trolling as any; but again, in this case I think it worked. At least if the troll was expecting dozens of Tropers to post about how they agree with the OP I think that expectation was proven about as far-fetched that I thought it would be.

If this post feels like I'm implying that we'll respond to any criticism with something like "most Tropers seem to like what we're doing so obviously you're wrong" I'd just like to correct that misunderstanding. If you have a criticism, as long as you're polite and initiate discussion through an appropriate channel (PM a Mod, Wiki Talk, that sort of thing) we won't simply dismiss you. We want to improve the site together with the user base. Sometimes we'll say that we (the staff) know better but in most questions we'll discuss, plan and implement any necessary changes together with the userbase.

I think any Wiki Talk regular can attest to that.

Man, the thread link posted by Willbyr is one of the funniest thing I ever read. [lol]

Also, the Team Rocket thing. It was brilliant. Nothing more needs to be said. [tup]
