A very apt analysis, Librarian. We even have a trope for that fallacy, Measuring the Marigolds.

... Oh. Darn, I'm stupid.
Experience has taught me to investigate anything that glows.Pfft, you're fine. I didn't get it either.
Nnot getting it still.
Jesus was crucified-killed by the state-which lead to a big religion forming around him. One would suggest that the lesson to that is that, if you don't want people to follow the work of another person, having the state kill them might be a bad idea.
And Michael's point was that Christians of all people should know that.
"And as long as a sack of shit is not a good thing to be, chivalry will never die."Triple Elation's post here about using too much metaphor is just wonderful.
That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.^^Plus one
Roast skunk, too.
Sorry it's late, but this is awesome.
"We are Libris. We will add your literary distinctiveness to our own. Collection is imminent. Resistance is futile." -Tuefel PM box opeIt has its moments, but I fundamentally disagree with the conclusion that not-being-depressed is essentially a light-switch.
We may not live in a world without therapists, but that doesn't mean therapy is a universal solution (just to give one example of the implications the post makes that I take issue with).
Still, a few things are insightful. 7 out of 10.
That wasn't anything resembling my conclusion. More like, "if you fight, you will recover somewhat if not wholly, to the point where you can improve; if you don't, then things will NEVER improve."
Getting over depression is a hard and long process, and it usually requires medication and therapy. But none of that- nothing- will do a drop of good unless you fight, fight some more, and keep fighting.
Also, therapy is Plan A. Psycholotherapists can and do send you to psychiatrists to get drugs if you need them, but drugs should never be plan A- from a guy who has done FAR too many.

Mura: -flips the bird to veterinary science with one hand and Euclidean geometry with the other-Oh, well, okay then.
Of course, since one's ability to fight is largely based on whether one's able to begin fighting in the first place, it can be an issue with momentum.
I just tend to think people are a bit quick to judge those with depression and depression like symptoms as "Get over it, pussy!" My apologies for misinterpreting your position.
It's cool. And I know that the momentum thing is an issue (I once had to be forcibly removed from my house by my friend Grimmet- bastard saved my life, as far as I can figure), but when that is the case, there's basically nothing we can do from the other side of a computer screen; as such, we must operate under the assumption that the people we are talking to are not yet incapable of saving themselves.
Mura: -flips the bird to veterinary science with one hand and Euclidean geometry with the other-I generally don't place a high importance on dictating to other people what their self worth is one way or another. This has, on at least one occasion, gotten me the accusation of being heartless.
Yeah, I agree with you there.
