...Rip...and...tear?
THAT ANGEL'S HUGE! THAT MEANS IT HAS HUGE GUTS!!

What?
Also, as for that track (Angel Attack), I have the following complaints:
- ominous English chanting? I'm sorry. You might actually want to try avoiding ANY modern language. (It's okay if the Pope finds Ominous Latin Chanting narmy, but it's not really okay if a large portion of your audience find it narmy.)
- "This is the final showdown"? WTF? That's Angel Attack from the VERY BEGINNING of the plot. Can't you at least wait the end for epicness like this?
- rhythm is too regular—as in, you can hear ONE-two-ONE-two-ONE-two-ONE-two through most of the track. The original had lots of emphases on the "two" beats, and occasional and irregular breaks in the rhythm, creating a much more jagged and tense feel.
At least it was Surprisingly Good English. Imagine Ominous Engrish Chanting, and quake in fear.
The only Eva soundtrack that I like is End of's, though, so I don't know about the differences.

Are you calling Zyxzy's joke a rip-off?

Well, I specifically disliked End of Eva's soundtrack. Well, more so, I really disliked the soundtrack dissonance. Komm Susser Todd is a nice song, but I hate the name, and hate how it was used.
And Thanatos does not deserve to be an upbeat jazzy ending theme.
The only good use of soundtrack dissonance in it was with Bach's Orchestral Suite Air.
On the other hand, I have listened to the main series soundtrack (three discs) many times (not including the multitude of versions of Fly Me to the Moon, though), and I've even made a custom playlist of it that arranges them into three "Acts", complete with intermissions, and I've also given each of the tracks a new name, such that the names match better with each other and with what they represent in the show.
And you don't know how much I've listened to the third disc (think much of the music from episodes 25-26) at various difficult times during my undergraduate college years.
So...in short, I love the soundtrack, and I feel a deep emotional connection to the original ending.
Well, by "the soundtrack", I really meant Kömm Susser Tod and Thanatos. NGE's soundtrack always seemed really cheesy to me, and I don't like cheesy music. As for context, I don't really care and listen to the music on its own in most cases.
Thanatos was upbeat? I need to listen to it again, clearly.
[1] This facsimile operated in part by synAC.Semi-upbeat. Had a jazzy, light feel to it, IMO. I think. Lemme listen to it again as well.
Edit: Okay, it's somewhat slower than I thought it was, but it still has a very light and "sophisticated elite luxury" feel, in its jazzy instrumentation and rhythm.
My objection to this is actually similar to my objection to Fly Me to the Moon, which is a nice song (well, it would be if not for the Engrish pronunciations), but really doesn't fit the serious and philosophical and introspective feel of the show.

Yeah, I'm not hearing "upbeat", I'm hearing "everybody is dead". What do other people think?
The comments on the YouTube video seem to generally agree that it's sad.
EDIT: I agree with your third paragraph there. Even though Cruel Angel's Thesis sounds nice on piano, I probably would have preferred Polovetsian Dances as the theme like Anno wanted.

...y'know, maybe this is due to me listening to the music and not hearing the lyrics.
Which seems to be a common problem for me. I let the music carry me, and the lyrics were a sideshow that just didn't add much to the production.

I do the same thing, unless the lyrics are important to the song, like Kömm Susser Tod. I don't like much modern music for that reason.
Thanatos doesn't have lyrics anyway.
[1] This facsimile operated in part by synAC.The End of Eva version of Thanatos does have lyrics.
Oh, yes, sorry. I was talking about Thanatos (the version by Loren & Mash). I wasn't commenting on KST.
Let me go listen to that first before commenting on it. Give me a moment; I'm listening to Modern Talking's "You're My Heart, You're My Soul".

Okay, I don't remember that version. I guess I blocked out more of EoE than I thought. It is indeed way more upbeat, at least the song is. I'll need to check the lyrics, I'm crap at understanding them as the song goes by.
...weird lyrics. I'm not sure if they're depressing or not.
Either way, I'm replacing my version with this one, thanks for telling me that it exists. I think I'll get a copy of the whole soundtrack now.
[1] This facsimile operated in part by synAC.I also prefer the soundtrack to the main series. It's certainly not subtle, but it does exactly what it's supposed to do.
Some writing.Cool, this version of Kömm Sußer Tod has cheering during the violin orgy! I like. *
v Completely awesome as well.

What's the frequency Kenneth?|In case of war.EVANGELION GOES HOLLYWOOD. Just contrast the japanese trailer.
Heh, I'm a huge fan of Soundtrack Dissonance in general. Both lyrical and mood.
"No, the Singularity will not happen. Computation is hard." -Happy Ent^^ Bwahahahaha. Seeing Evangelion marketed as a Hollywood action movie is...impossibly funny.
Especially that dramatic "SHINJI IKARI: THE THIRD CHILD". Because...it's Shinji. :D
Productivity is for people without internet connections. -Count DorkuI especially laughed the
"You're looking at the most advanced weapon system ever developed by man. The synthetic humanoid Evangelion. YOU will be the pilot!"
Ahahaha so hilarious. Sounds like something out of the Transformers movie.
Exactly.
Just thinking about it makes me hear "Hallelujah" in the background :p
Productivity is for people without internet connections. -Count DorkuWow, this is hilarious.
(Am I the only one who would want to see a full "Hollywood Evangelion" movie just for the entertaining value ?)
That was almost as funny as Saturday Morning Watchmen!
I can just imagine some parent watching that, and thinking "Hey, looks like an interesting summer blockbuster", taking the kids, OH WHOOPS ARAEL

[1] This facsimile operated in part by synAC.Holy crap. Now I actually might want to watch that.
I love that trailer.
Yes, I'm a sucker for dramatic things. (Which means that movie trailers are often far cooler to me than movies themselves.)

You know, I just realized something about berserk Unit-01. Namely, that it rips and tears its enemies. Do you know what this means?
