No 40K thread yet? I'm surprised. Nay, shocked, shocked I say to discover there's gambling going on in this establishment...
I'm eagerly anticipating the imminent 5th Edition release, personally, but I was interested to know if anyone here plays and has a differing opinion on it. There are certainly plenty of people out there who seem to think that 40K 4th edition "only just" came out and that a new edition isn't needed. Anyone?
Warhammer Fantasy (including Age of Sigmar and WFRP) has its own thread here.

Not on the UK site where they are listed as No Longer Available rather than Temporarily Out Of Stock like the Death Jester (the shadowseer is still available though).

Photos from the newest White Dwarf with the new Harlequin models are leaking in the 40K group on FB I follow...the Solitaire looks like he's a beast in close combat.

Confession: I am a grumpy grump who got most of his 40k knowledge through the glorious compilation and translation work of Scribe Patatovitch and his team from Taran.
As such, I have a hard time considering Necrons canon, and they basically do not exist in my vision of the setting.
The Great Northern Threadkill. Some stuff on the Harlequins got posted on Space Battles.
That's one hell of an initiative stat on the Solitaire.
The troopes aren't exactly slow-footed either.

I need a new sig. It's weird, a lot of these weapons' special rule say "to-wound roll of 6 cause automatic AP 2 wound". Isn't that the "Rending" Universal Special Rule?
Oh I think I got it, it's Rending minus the added D3 on vehicles, hence why they have to specify it.
"And as long as a sack of shit is not a good thing to be, chivalry will never die."Noted.
Welp, I just bought Tomb Awakened. Also a Death Jester because the model is badass and I want one before it goes poof. I also want the new Solitaire. That model is also badass. The troupe looks similar enough that I'm not going to jump for those. Also not getting the other one because it doesn't appeal to me as much.
@ Orange Spider: That's fine. I'm sure most of the Imperium of Man is completely unaware of the existance of Necrons. So that's fluffy enough. Just be wary of tombs on abandonned worlds.

Is this a campy Gonzo setting, or dark and gritty serious setting?
Referring to the elven clowns or the egyptian terminators from space?
Rumor has it that a plastic Jester and Seer are going to bring up the rear of this release. Oh well! Mine was likely cheaper and in a different pose to boot.
I might just need to build a small circus. It'll be a stark contrast to all the Necrons.

It's a grim setting setting and pretty much everybody is evil (the humans in the Imperium aren't called "catholic space nazis" by their fans for nothing after all) and/or doomed. There are a number of sympathetic characters though.
It does get silly at times though *looks at Trazyn*.

I need a new sig.Trazyn is the best.
I like Trazyn, too.
EDIT: Well, I couldn't get hold of a can of spray varnish tonight to put the finishing touches on the Predator, and I'm going to be out of town for two weeks, so here's where I've gotten to.

Yes.
All the grimness and the darkness of 40k makes some people grit their teeth and others crack a smile at how absurdly screwed everyone in the setting is. Which is why the Ciaphas Cain stories are just as true as the Gaunt's Ghosts books when it comes to capturing the setting. Even the same army can come across differently depending on how it's viewed. - the Orks are hilarious in a brutal, sociopathic manner, but flip the perspective to a human facing those killing machines and the story can be quite the opposite of funny.
Probably the only faction that isn't "campy" is the Tyranids, and that's because they're a bunch of bugs. Though I guess a Genestealer Cult's preachings present an opportunity for ham...
If I ever decided to build a new army I would build Trollzyn the Infinite.
Still not embarrassing enough to stan billionaires or tech companies. He's the only figure that I intend on buying that I don't really like the look of.
So, Lychguard and Praetorians came out well from the Codex jumble. Tomb Blades are great now and Wraiths are better. Stalkers have an aura of buff.
Pretty much all the models I liked got something new, or something better, from the shift.
Except monoliths. Apparently they didn't get much... which is too bad.
EDIT: Adeptus Mechanicum rumors continue to build. Late March is the general time frame. Wonder if its true. Humorously, early posts in that thread read like "Harlequin and Mechanicum releases? Not gonna happen!".

Okay, so when the Imperial Guard got a High Gothic name, there was I think a regiment that started appearing on all of the new books, briefly. They had the Taurox, I think it was, and wore blue. Does anyone remember them? I don't.

Those were just generic Stormtroopers/Militarum Tempestus guys. I think.
Yeah, after I looked for that I just searched for Taurox and followed the link XD
A funny thing happened to me today. I've been putting models together for this game for more than twenty years now with little issue and yet today for the first time I rather solidly glued two of my figures together while assembling my latest Immolator. It took me almost ten minuets to get unglued and I still have no idea how I did it.

(lights lho stick)
In regards to the Solitaire, initiative doesn't mean shit when you're gunned down by 15 autocannons.
But if it took 15 autocannons to gun it down, then it has successfully worked as a DISTRACTION CARNIFEX used to do for 'nids. These autocannons aren't going to shoot at anything else this turn.

"And as long as a sack of shit is not a good thing to be, chivalry will never die."Does the Imperial Guard have mechanized infantry regiments? And do any regiments have like little groups of tanks, like a handful of platoons or a company?
For your first question, yes. Off the top of my head, I can name the Cadian 88th.
Note that the Harldquin entries mention a dedicated transport called a Starweaver. Sounds neat.

To the first question, absolutely - see the Armageddon Steel Legions. You used to be able to take Mechanized as a regimental doctrine so long as you could afford to pay (in points and in plastic) for all those Chimeras.
As for the second question, nope. Tanks (and artillery) are grouped in their own regiments, which are split up (or not - see the old Armored Company army lists) and deployed alongside infantry regiments on the battlefield. You average Guard company will have transports, utility vehicles and scout walkers attached to it, but not any big guns. The general rule is Divided We Stand - Guard regiments are purposefully overspecialized so that they will need to work together to get results, as a deterrent to going rogue.
They're still available. I am getting a Death Jester with my next order, though, just in case.
And there will be new models. Rumors are leaning toward anew solitaire, a new troupe and jetbike harlequins.
