No 40K thread yet? I'm surprised. Nay, shocked, shocked I say to discover there's gambling going on in this establishment...
I'm eagerly anticipating the imminent 5th Edition release, personally, but I was interested to know if anyone here plays and has a differing opinion on it. There are certainly plenty of people out there who seem to think that 40K 4th edition "only just" came out and that a new edition isn't needed. Anyone?
Warhammer Fantasy (including Age of Sigmar and WFRP) has its own thread here.

Man, I can't imagine playing WHFB drunk and actually remembering any of the rules. I have a hard enough time doing that sober.
Still not embarrassing enough to stan billionaires or tech companies."Wouldnit, wouldnit, wouldnit be great if...y'know...40K had, like, magic that works like this 'n' shit?"
"Yeahhhh! Thass brilliant dude."
"I'm gonna charge my Thingian Reavers into your Storm...rat...thingy...guys."
"Don't bovver rollin', they're...like...evles. Elves. Thingy. They're gonna beat those rats, right? 'Cause they're evles."
"I love you, man."
You are dazzled by my array of very legal documents.@Math: Not till your 18 son.
hashtagsarestupidVehicles definitely weaker with Hull Points. You lose your Land Raider to 4 Shaken results (which is hardly inconceivable).
I'm still going to run them, because I'm still playing 40k for my lasers and guns and tanks and explosions.
Also, someone mentioned something about "...are people really forgetting how far they moved their vehicles?". My anecdotal experience is that, yes, they are. And quite conveniently at that.
Legal drinking age in Denmark is 16.
Fun fact: My 15-strong group of Lothern Sea Guard with no IC attached managed to kill a group of five rat-ogres.

Still not embarrassing enough to stan billionaires or tech companies. But Ellyrian Reavers vs Stormvermin is a significantly worse match-up, you'd have to admit.
You are dazzled by my array of very legal documents. What do Stormvermin do again?
And yes, Ellyrian Reavers are made of condensed fail.
Still not embarrassing enough to stan billionaires or tech companies. They're the Skaven elite troops, which in context means "slightly better than an average human but a shitload more numerous".
This is, of course, 40K-relevant for reasons I can't quite remember right nw.
You are dazzled by my array of very legal documents.I guess this means I lose the "you can totally take up to 8 teams of sniper drones and only use one organization slot" bonus, or else all your high point commander units are going down.
Also, with the way vehicles are going, I have even LESS Reason to field a hammerhead over a pimped out xv88

"Coffee! Coffeecoffeecoffee! Coffee! Not as strong as Meth-amphetamine, but it lets you keep your teeth!"Hopefully they either buff vehicle stats in new codexes or make them cheaper.
You are dazzled by my array of very legal documents.High point cost, High physical cost, Low durability, Instantly-primaried units are a dealbreaker. Aside from possible Rule of Cool, there's no reason to field a Hammerhead.
"Coffee! Coffeecoffeecoffee! Coffee! Not as strong as Meth-amphetamine, but it lets you keep your teeth!"Historically, sniper drones were never 'sniper' weapons (hitting on 2s, wounding on 4s, crappy against vehicles), so I doubt it would have mattered. But you never know!

yeah, I know, but I assume they'd actually get fixed to not suck.
Kind of bold of me, I know.
"Coffee! Coffeecoffeecoffee! Coffee! Not as strong as Meth-amphetamine, but it lets you keep your teeth!"Maybe if Matt Ward writes the next Tau Codex?
If sniper teams could be comprised of more than three drones, I reckon they would have gone down well. Oh, and if they were priced competitively. And possibly not a Fast Attack choice (unless that's not what they are at the moment).
Actually, drone units as Troops would be awesome. It would really help reflect the Tau philosophy (okay, maybe more like the Tau philosophy as interpreted by me).
Seriously Dude, Not Funny!
"Coffee! Coffeecoffeecoffee! Coffee! Not as strong as Meth-amphetamine, but it lets you keep your teeth!"Clearly I don't hate Matt Ward as much as some!
Okay, I'll bite, I don't actually hate Matt Ward's fluff. Though I do find it to be on par with desperately-trying-to-sound-legit-fanfiction. I don't hate it though.
It's pretty much canon defilement.
It's horrific.
"Coffee! Coffeecoffeecoffee! Coffee! Not as strong as Meth-amphetamine, but it lets you keep your teeth!"We had Grey Knights pureeing Sisters of Battle for daemon protection, and Blood Angels brofisting with Necrons. Mhmm. Any sane fan of an army would view Matt Ward's involvment in their codex's lore section with horror, at the least.
I like that added fluff of Tactical Marines being more experienced than Assault and Devastator Marines, and I like how the Space Marine Codex really codified 'counts-as'.
I like Stormravens. And Stormtalons, but I'm not sure how much Ward had to contribute to that.
I also liked the Grey Knights bathing in Sororitas blood. They were too sparkly-goody for me before. Okay, that's an exaggeration. Still, I wasn't fond of how pure they were beforehand.
Guilliman the Spiritual Liege though? Pretty heavy-handed. I'm sure that could have been written in a better way (to show how much the Astartes owe to the Codex without falling over themselves for Guilliman-worship).
And unfortunately I'm not familiar enough with other spheres of Ward's influence to offer an opinion on those.
EDIT: Ah yes, Necron brofist. That one is pretty out there, but makes more sense with the new Necron fluff (which I guess is Wardism in itself?).

Yeah, the Necron codex is Wardism, most definitely. Pretty much excised the Enslavers forcing the Necrons into dormancy, and having the Necrons themselves defeat the C'Tan, shattering them into "shards", before going on a self-imposed slumber.
It did give the Necron faction more personality though, but there are some eyebrow-raising stuff in there, for sure. Like Sebastian Thor's head being in some loopy Necron's collection.

No more C'Tan?
I'm... actually quite disappointed in this. I don't even play Necrons, but I loved the C'Tan. So the Necrontyr killed the stareaters that forced the Old Ones to create the Eldar and the Krork?
But the only vibe I'm getting from these Necrons is "We're INSCRUTIBLE!".
No no, even the Necrons found that the C'Tan were nigh-indestructible, so they just "shattered" them, and use the shards as point-and-click destruction machines. They didn't get ALL of the Shards though, which is an out to explaining why the Deceiver seems to be running around everywhere.
As for the Necrons these days, think of Egypt as robots, and you have it. They're pretty much petty fiefdoms united under "regional" pharaons, who are then united under dynasties, all of whom (used to) answer to a council of elder leaders. Kind of hard to explain without the Codex in front of me, but there's also a lot of factionalism to go around (many Necron leaders work at cross-purposes, like those who want to become flesh beings again, to one goofball who's going around adding things to his planet-sized collection), as well as a segment that is the "classic" mindless deathbots, who became that way because the overseeing AI of the tomb world reformatted everyone in its care.

My original concept for my blood angel techmarine deathwatch character was that he was secretly a necron spy.
Math shot the idea fast.

This part of the rules is unconfirmed from "rumor" and "leaks" for now. White Dwarf doesn't explain in details how hull points and vehicle damage work.
In four days, we'll know.
