No 40K thread yet? I'm surprised. Nay, shocked, shocked I say to discover there's gambling going on in this establishment...
I'm eagerly anticipating the imminent 5th Edition release, personally, but I was interested to know if anyone here plays and has a differing opinion on it. There are certainly plenty of people out there who seem to think that 40K 4th edition "only just" came out and that a new edition isn't needed. Anyone?
Warhammer Fantasy (including Age of Sigmar and WFRP) has its own thread here.

Yeah.
Plus, they have that super good deal with the Terminator Lords Cadre. 60 bucks for 5 Terminators and a Terminator Lord? And those normally cost 50 and 25? Sold.
Those are the deals I like. Not he Formation ones where it's just "all the formation, no value at all". Like, come on GW. You could at least make the Helldrake Terror Pack have one at 25% off

Yeah, Games Workshop can be a bit hit and miss with their bundles. Some of them are very good, while others aren't any different to buying the stuff individually.
Knowledge is Power, Guard it WellYeah, like the only reason I'd be buying the Chaos Rhino by itself now is because I have a squad of 10 Chaos Marines without a transport, as the Start Collecting: Chaos Space Marines doesn't have one.
The Chaos Space Marine Desolator squad though? 55 for 10 Chaos Marines and a Chaos Rhino? Fuck yes.
My only problem is that the Havocs are 40 for 5 and they're all resin. Whyyyyyyyyy

And that's why the real Havoc squad is called a "Devastator Squad and a bunch of leftover bitz".
You are dazzled by my array of very legal documents.Yeah. The only issue is like, you can only get the Chaos Heavy weapons in the Havoc kit.
Come on GW. Update the frigging Havocs and make them plastic.
Chaos tanks come with a little sprue that you use to replace the barrel on a heavy bolter, lascannon, or missile launcher to make it more chaotic. About the only thing it's actually missing is the autocannon.
You are dazzled by my array of very legal documents.Fair point. But like, it's mildly annoying is all.
In other news: One of the people at my FLGS brought in his bitz box and I got some more Chaos Marine bitz. And a few Servo Skulls with a big IV on their foreheads.

For today's 2nd Edition Thursday, an Ork unit that has barely been mentioned since that time: Madboyz
Madboyz were Orks who, due to a fault in the gene that creates Oddboyz, were even crazier than your average Ork with minds full of distractions that drive them insane. A player could only have a single mob of between 5 and 30 Madboyz in their army at a cost of 10 points each. Madboyz had the basic profile of an Ork M4 WS3 BS3 S3 T4 W1 I2 A1 Ld7 and were equipped with bolt pistols, an axe, frag stikkbombz and flak armour. For wargear options, any Madboy could replace their bolt pistol with a bolter for 1 point per model while any model could take additional Assault Weaponsnote and Stikkbombznote .
Madboyz also follow the following special rules:
Madmob: Madboyz always fought as a single mob on their own and couldn’t benefit from Leadership bonuses from Ork characters. The only exception to this is that, due to being unconsciously drawn towards them, Madboyz can use the Leadership of a Weirdboy Warphead if they were within 2” of them.
Mad: Madboyz were extremely unpredictable, their minds swirling with strange ideas or sudden moments of enthusiasm. They also tend to act as a single group; if one Madboy thinks he lost his boot for example, the entire mob would become obsessed with finding it. To represent this the mob had to roll on the following Madboy Chart at the start of the battle:
1. Fear – The Madboyz fear every enemy unitnote ; 2. Stupidity – The Madboyz must test for Stupidity at the start of each of their turnsnote ; 3. Hatred – The Madboyz hate every enemy unitnote ; 4. Frenzy – The Madboyz are subjected to frenzynote ; 5. Immune to Psychology – The Madboyz are immune to all psychological effects and automatically pass any and all Leadership based tests; 6. Crazy – The Madboyz become totally crazed, becoming Immune to Psychology as in result 5 as well as gaining +1 to a random characteristic (1=M, 2=WS, 3=BS 4=S, 5=T, 6=A).
At the start of each subsequent turn the Ork player had to roll a D6 with a result of 1-5 meaning that nothing happens but a result of a 6 resulting in the Madboyz changing their minds and the player had to roll on the Madboy Chart again.
Knowledge is Power, Guard it Wellbeen hearing some disturbing rumblings about the new 8e rules.... mostly that assault is going to get massive buffs (e.g. Space Marines being able to assault out of drops on turn 1!!!!), templates are gonna go and be replaced with random wound allocation... I just hope these ain't true....
advancing the front into TV TropesThis reminds me, these fiery-eyed orks in Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine, that do a ton of melee damage, I could never identify. Were they actually madboyz?
"And as long as a sack of shit is not a good thing to be, chivalry will never die."Could be, I've not played the game so I don't know. This is what the (1st Edition) Madboy models looked like◊
Knowledge is Power, Guard it WellMiniwargamer Jay talked about some of the changes he heard about at Adepticon.
I haven't had a chance to look at but these are the latest rumors I have seen, one of which has been debunked from an apparently reliable source.
Knowledge is Power, Guard it WellWait, so Orks have Madboyz, Weirdboyz, and Oddboyz?
That is the face of a man who just ate a kitten. Raw.Oddboyz is the collective term for the Ork specialists (Meks; Painboyz; Weirdboyz; Brewboyz; etc.) Weirdboyz are the Ork psykers with Warpheads being the Weirdboy equivalent of Big Meks, Bad Docs etc. Madboyz are what happens when the gene that creates these specialists is damaged.

Knowledge is Power, Guard it WellI've heard so many mutually incompatible rumours about 8th edition rules at this point that I've just stopped paying attention to them. We'll know when we know.
You are dazzled by my array of very legal documents.Same here.
Also, so I have a question: Has anyone here ever used gloss primer as a primer? 'cause I accidentally bought gloss black spray primer and already used some of it thinking it was flat black, so now I can't really return it I mean, I can paint over it with regular black paint, but...
edited 6th Apr '17 12:57:08 PM by BlackSunNocturne
have you used it and do you still have a receipt? cos you could just get a refund
advancing the front into TV TropesUsed it already. That's how I found out it was gloss black.
As to the receipt, I don't have it. I could likely just ask the store owner about it, as he's cool with that. Plus, he knew I was meaning to buy flat black instead of gloss black.note
Question? How xenophobic was the emperor pre-heresy?
"Any campaign world where an orc samurai can leap off a landcruiser to fight a herd of Bulbasaurs will always have my vote of confidence"He felt it was more important to eradicate all xenos instead of informing his sons about the actual dangers.
Hell, Eldrad even warned Fulgrim about the dangers of Chaos, and Fulgrim was like "nah, dad said don't trust the xenos".
From what I understood, Empy badly misunderstood how the setting's Gods Need Prayer Badly works, and thought simply erasing all knowledge of Chaos would destroy it.
The flaw in that plan was that Chaos feeds on emotions, not just conscious worship.
"And as long as a sack of shit is not a good thing to be, chivalry will never die."About that. She Who Thirsts aside (and that's a really big one), the Eldar never actually seem to be in any danger of falling to Chaos? They're that good at anti-corruption?
Look with century eyes... With our backs to the arch And the wreck of our kind We will stare straight ahead For the rest of our livesEither that, or he was pretending to be so ignorant specifically because of the inevitable outcome of such a path... because it really is the least bad option possible to him.
More or less, yes. It helps that unlike the Imperium, every Eldar is thoroughly taught about the nature of Chaos and the dangers of dealing with it in any other way than unconditional enmity. The Harlequins at the very least regularly make performances on the topic everywhere they go in the Eldar diaspora (Craftworlds, Exodite worlds, even the Dark Eldar know better than to touch them), though the ones about Slaanesh require the participation of Solitaires to play the role of She Who Thirsts.

Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.
Just curious. Personally I would recommend Terminators, they are far more fluffy for Iron Warriors.
