No 40K thread yet? I'm surprised. Nay, shocked, shocked I say to discover there's gambling going on in this establishment...

I'm eagerly anticipating the imminent 5th Edition release, personally, but I was interested to know if anyone here plays and has a differing opinion on it. There are certainly plenty of people out there who seem to think that 40K 4th edition "only just" came out and that a new edition isn't needed. Anyone?

Warhammer Fantasy (including Age of Sigmar and WFRP) has its own thread here.

Franchise.Warhammer 40000 Expanded Universe

Does anyone else think that this page needs to have all of the information about the other 40K works that's on the game's page ported to it?

[up]Is that page really necessary? There isn't really as much separation to call the other works an expanded universe and I I feel using Games Workshop is good enough as it is

Hmmmm...I think I'd rather limit that page to works created directly by GW and have the Franchise page for the overarching body of 40K-related works.

[up]Then the novels shouldn't be on there (Black Library is a part of Games Workshop not an independent company and - despite how I like to joke - their novels are generally considered canon unless directly contradicted by the core sourcebooks) as well as the original Dark Heresy RPG (which was created by Games Workshop before being handed off to a third part company) and Space Hulk (the board game is definitely canon as it is part of Mephiston's backstory).

EDIT: I just don't see much of an advantage I using Warhammer 40,000 Expanded Universe over Games Workshop as the latter also allows you to group together the Fantasy and 40K entries on a trope page.

This got posted on Bolter & Chainsword not too long ago. If it's accurate, I'm...actually not sure about it, because it's written in shorthand and I have trouble telling what half of it is actually trying to say.

The Alpha Legion being the only people in the setting who have grasped the concept of a chain of command beyond "it's what I beat you with if you disobey" is hilarious to me though.

Painting plaid is a royal pain in the ass. I did a couple tests and it didn't turn out as I wanted, but I'll keep trying. Because I aim to paint my Repentias' robes plaid.

It look like Codex: Imperial Agents ''will'' include the full Sororitas rules along with Inquisition, Assassins and Legion of the Damned from the previously digital only dexes.

There will also be a Limited Edition Canoness and Made to Order Inquisition, Ecclesiarchy and Sororitas models. I am not going to have much money by left by the end of the yearsad

Wait hang on, is the whole 'Daemon Primarchs are coming back' an actual thing that's happening now?

God, I've been out of the loop O_o

Yes. That's happening. You can go pre-order Magnus right now.

Yep Daemon Lord Magnus has a model and it's 600+ point of psychic, and physical, rape face.

He's $220 for me. Fucking Australia tax.

Fortunately, I'm not actually collecting Sons at present, and if I do they will be led by a spiked-up 30K Prospero Ahriman, meaning that Magnus's cost isn't going to affect me.

Magnus' model is pretty damn sweet.

Perturabo, please?

I visited the GW store in Memphis today, and had a good chat with the super-cool lady that works there. So:

  • Don't expect plastic Sisters any time soon...they're not ruled out, but not on the horizon if I understood her correctly.
  • Per the fluff in Wrath of Magnus, the next Daemon Primarch model could very well be Mortarion.

I picked up Imotekh, Trazyn, a Cryptek, and a box of Flayed Ones as well.

[up]Plastic Sororitas have been "on the horizon" since at least 4th Edition.

For today's 2nd Edition Thursday: Blood Axes

The Blood Axes were always my favourite of the Ork Clans, mainly due to this awesome pic by Mark Gibbons, which is still my favourite piece of Games Workshop art.

The Blood Axe clan colours were camouflage (focusing on black, red and grey). Their unique unit note  were the Blood Axe Kommandos and they were able to take captured, or traded, Space Marine and Imperial Guard vehicles and artillery as allies with Ork crew. The Blood Axes preferred units note  were Stormboyz and Ogryn mercenaries.

Blood Axe Boyz Mobs used to cost 12 points per model purchased in units of 5 to 20, were equipped with bolt pistols, an axe, flak armour and frag stikkbombs. They had the had the regular Ork Boy profile: M4 WS3 BS3 S3 T4 W1 I2 A1 Ld7. For wargear options any Boy could replace their bolt pistol with a bolter for 1 point. Any model could also take additional Assault Weapons note  or Stikkbombsnote . One model in the Mob could be given a Special note  or Heavy Weaponnote .

Blood Axe Kommando Mobs used to cost 14 points per model purchased in units of 5 to 20, were also equipped with bolt pistols, an axe, flak armour and frag stikkbombs. Kommandos were the elite of the Blood Axes and had he following profile: M4 WS4 BS4 S3 T4 W1 I3 A1 Ld7. For wargear options any Boy could replace their bolt pistol with a bolter for 1 point and could also replace their regular axe with a power axe for 6 points. Once again any model could also take additional Assault Weapons or Stikkbombs while one model in the Mob could be given a Special or Heavy Weapon. They also had the Infiltration note  and Dispersed Formation note  special rule.

In 2nd Edition Epic (its still a 2nd Edition) Orks used to have a form of instinctive behaviour if you didn’t give them ordersnote  and for Blood Axes they would move towards the nearest table edge, only shooting at enemy units within 25cm. Once at the table edge the Mob would stop moving. As well as this, due to the lack of respect that Blood Axes get from other Orks, other Ork Clans couldn’t be given orders by Blood Axe Nobs. Blood Axes also didn’t use Battlewagons like the other Clans but used regular Rhinos instead.

Arguably, most of the Sister army list can be done with one basic unit. They make a mold for standard Sisters you can use them as Retributors, Dominions, Celestians... it'd be not expensive to redo them.
