So where is your user picture from? Care to share what pics you use on other forums? (I know we used to have a thread about this, but it seems it was lost in The Great Crash.)
My current avatar, and all my previous avatars, are from Gunnerkrigg Court. So it's probably safe to assume that all my future avatars will be from there as well.

For some reason ever since the website was revamped avatars has taken quality hits. It's one of the issues that I noticed very fast at the start (I am not the only one).
....It's also something that still hasn't been fixed for a while along with the broken gallery...

If the images are stored as .jpeg there definitely will be quality drops. it only doesn't become a problem if the files are stored as .png, a lossless file format.

Gif is also a lossless format. I have also heard that if you don't click on the cropping tool at all, the quality is not affected.
Even jpgs only degrade if you deconvert and reconvert them, which regular saving files from browser doesn't do.
Of course the avatar gallery does fuck with the images without reason, even when they're in lossless formats, rather than upload the file 1to1 so reupping is still an unideal tactic here.3
Oh and also given "Plus I lack a computer." adds a gate check of a mobile browser who also may reconvert on save and whatnot, sending the image through two benders of unspecialised dumbass image editing software.

For some reason, the fact that the uploader doesn't assign a unique number to the file name any more kind of gives me cold feet.
I mean, what would happen if two avatar images share the exact same file name?
