This is the thread for discussion of The Order of the Stick plot, characters, etc. We have a separate thread for discussing game rules and mechanics. Excessive rules discussions here may be thumped as off-topic.

Which is amusingly enough true of at least three subtypes of Sorceror in Pathfinder.
The Crystal Caverns A bird's gotta sing.Of course, gaining wings at 17th level is pretty underwhelming, considering that for most folks, temporary flight is expected to come online around 5th level, and permanent flight is the norm by 10th level.
Rhymes with "Protracted."So his plan is to get in on this God-Moot eh?
Well, nobody likes a Moot-crasher.
.......What exactly is a moot?
I've heard the term one other time before, and that's it. I know it's some kind of meeting, but is there anything else to it, or is it just an archaic term for meeting or gathering?

One Strip! One Strip!A Song Of Ice And Fire had a Kingsmoot in the fourth book. The official definition of a moot is "an assembly held for a debate". I assume it's an old fashioned term for a gathering where decisions about something are made.

Probably some connection. But etymology has stranger coincidences.
A moot refers to a debate so I'm guessing there's some relation although it seems to have the opposite meaning since moot point, in my experience, means the issue isn't worth discussing.
Hmmm.
Well, I guess this is also a moot point.
Anyway, as I said before, nobody likes a moot crasher, so we'll see how Durkula's plan goes down eventually.
One Strip! One Strip!A moot point is something no longer relevant given new information.
Say to the others who did not follow through You're still our brothers, and we will fight for youDepends on the dialect, I think. A moot point can instead be a point that needs to be addressed.
Etymonline and Wiktionary to the rescue!
The conventional meaning of "moot" describes something that remains unsettled or is still open to debate. Law schools began to use it in this sense to refer to "moot cases", hypothetical exercises for ace attorneys in training, which through what I'm imagining as "it's been years since we passed the bar, can the two of you please stop bickering about the best course of action for a case that never even happened" turned into "something that isn't actually worth arguing about".
The Revolution Will Not Be TropeableDo you have Capcomitis like I do where you must add "ace" in front of every use of the word "attorney".
The Crystal Caverns A bird's gotta sing.I'm afraid so. :P
I have the second stage of the disease, actually, where I go out of my way to use "attorney" rather than "lawyer" or "solicitor", just so I can say "ace" in front of it.

The Revolution Will Not Be TropeableHuh. I wonder. Is Durkula saying "an" instead of "and" in the second to last panel a typo, or is he starting to adopt Durkon's accent?
That's an interesting idea. Like, maybe he's vulnerable to Becoming the Mask to some extent?
Favored Souls are exactly like Sorcerors in every way. They have less spells, but can mix them up however they like, and instead of magical powers being the reward for a lifetime of devotion/study, they were just "born special". It doesn't seem especially fanficcy, although I guess the name is a little weird.
Why does Durkula want to go to the Godsmoot?
Also, I don't get panel 4. Is he referring to V? And why'd he have to kill everyone?
>Why does Durkula want to go to the Godsmoot?
This is yet a mystery.
>Also, I don't get panel 4. Is he referring to V? And why'd he have to kill everyone?
Veldrina, not Vaarsuvius. He'd have to kill everybody because he can't allow himself to be rezzed, and refusing would blow his cover.
It's starting to get painful watching people almost let slip the true nature of vampirism. Now we've got people assuming not elaborating apparently because they assume Roy would already know about it.
Here's a question. If he had to, would Durkula be able to kill everyone in the room? He'd basically have to catch Roy by surprise (not hard at this point, admittedly) for one.

"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.Because if he got Rezzed, he wouldn't be a servant of Hel anymore?
CM Dates; CM Pending; CM DraftsDurkula is pretending to be Durkon, but what he is hiding, among other things, is that if Durkon is to be rezzed then Durkula will need to be destroyed for that to happen.
On another note, is it possible to be an Ascended Extra from the start? The kickstarter reward was for a one-page character but the Giant saw a chance to slot it into a role he'd yet to flesh out.
I don't see where you're getting that. Why would you expect this person to know the true nature of vampirism, which supposedly no one knows in this setting? If anything, she's trying to discover the true nature of vampirism by getting empirical data about a vampire being destroyed and then resurrected.
We've already long since known that a Knowledge (Religion) check isn't going to be enough to know these things (which, again, no one knows because why the heck would a vampire talk about it?), but even if it was there's no reason for a Favored Soul to even have Knowledge (Religion) since the whole point of the class is that they're not part of an organized religion. To be fair, she does seem to have an interest in metaphysics though.

While the etymology has already been pointed out, Word Detective's discussion of the etymology of moot, because Evan Morris is incredibly entertaining in general.
>Because if he got Rezzed, he wouldn't be a servant of Hel anymore?
Yes. Durkula, the dark spirit currently puppeteering Durkon's body, is a servant of Hel. Applying Resurrection would banish it and bring back good old Durkon, cleric of Thor. And he would also know everything the spirit blabbed to him, by the way.

I'm not terribly familiar with Favored Soul, except to know that it's the origin of Oracle and lacks most of the features that they gave Oracles.
However, at 17th level they get wings. So- hey. They've got some things going for them.
