Is there a trope for when the hero finds the quest object only to have the villain take it?

"And as long as a sack of shit is not a good thing to be, chivalry will never die."If I had to guess what was behind that far wall, I would say "Water." It's a hurry-up job that wall, not the monk's usual quality work.
But the entire room reads as a deathtrap. If Madwa wants to make a try for the lamp, I would be tempted to let her take it and see what happens.
I have thinking ahead to that grand masquerade ball.
Which will happen some day, some year upcoming, as we measure time. What costume would be right for each character. The Storm King for Martellus, of course. His ego would demand nothing less.
I think it would depend on whether the character is announcing themselves -like Martellus- or hiding in plain sight.
Coming back to where you started is not the same as never leaving. -Terry PratchettWell as Tarquin said in The Order of the Stick was that a well timed swoop is hard to time.
Besides the MacGuffin it is not for Agatha but the secondary party members so...
Well here goes nothingNot sure what you mean about being for the secondary party members? Agatha would certainly like a device that could (possibly) restore the flow of time....
Was meaning as it is what the librarians want, the party members which include Hoffman and Co. If Agatha sees she can use it well it could be a battle for said MacGuffin
In any case I'll just get the popcorn.

This is an automated program that checks the Sneaky Gate every 5 minutes. source codeWell whaddya know. Vi is a better smoke knight than Madva.
If it moves, eat it. If it doesn't move, kick it—then eat it!"How?", indeed. As in, what kind of Smoke Knight shenanigans were required for Madwa to suddenly get there?
Not a substitute for a formal medical consultation.Yeah, that she was somehow able to get past everybody crowded in the doorway unnoticed and then get casually grabbed.. I know, Master Smoke Knight, but still..
It all takes is one moment of a misstep and rolling that serendipitous one.
Well here goes nothingEh, I've played a lot of Skyrim and by those standards, Madwa's actions are par for the course.
Also, considering her surprise, it's likely that she was either invisible or had paused time, both of which Prende could be able to deal with.
I'm looking forward to hearing some sweet exposition from Prende!

Way to go, Vi. Just goes to show: get too used to your flashy smoke knight skills, and you forget to apply the basics of the school of really suspicious bastardry or bitchiness.
Van Rijn may have been a perfect fool at the end. But he was one hell of an engineer. The Smoke Knights have 200 years on Prende. But she came out of dormancy in an instant captured Madwa and made it look easy.
Otilia is pretty bad ass too.
So, so far we've met four of the muses, right? The first two weren't very impressive, but next two more so, and there are still five to go...
Doesn't Violetta actually say the opposite about Otilia on this page?
She *says* that, but the muse still looks and acts like a bad-ass killing machine, and I expect she'd be even *more* so with "Von Pinn" back inside.
Her "knowledge" came from Tarvek, and he's a fount of mis-information.
As I understand it, Violetta said Otilia was more badass than she was supposed to be.
"And as long as a sack of shit is not a good thing to be, chivalry will never die."True, but if he was telling the truth about anything, it would be the Muses.
He has a section on the GG "Assorted Characters" page. I added a couple of yours to it.

Dunno I guess that for Van Rijn in universe we could have to say:
- Absentminded Professor: To the point of triggering the Single-Target Sexuality to the muse of time near his end.
- Mad Scientist: Of course.
- Dirty Old Man
- Ahead his time.
There are other options but not so sure.

This is an automated program that checks the Sneaky Gate every 5 minutes. source codeLooking back at the picture of the Muses◊ I think Prende must be the one with the globe-thing, which does appear to have a light source within it.
Hah! I was right about Prende!
Well, this definitely looks like The Lamp That Summoned The Night.
I agree the whale in the back looks like a more recent addition, and the whole setup looks like it's made so the lamp can shine on both sides of the wall, so I wonder what's on the other side ...
Vi probably recognized something from all the lore about the Storm King she heard from Tarvek.
I hope Zeetha and Dimo are on the lookout for Madwa. She said she was about Death and Sneaking, and they don't know where she is, she knows where they are, which is right in front of what she was looking for all along.
