Hm. Lost and Haruhi Suzumiya come immediately to mind. There are others, but for the life of me I can't remember them right now.

Also, I'd have to sat that my "Webcomics" bookmarks folder has doubled in size due to the wiki.

Dr. McNinja and Yu-Gi-Oh: The Abridged Series. As a practiced Yu-Gi-Oh hater, I would never have watched the latter without this wiki. While I haven't read/watched them yet, I've gained an interest in pursuing Dr. Who and Anno Dracula. The former I've known about for years, but rarely watched, and the latter I read the page that linked to a page saying exactly how many crossovers are involved in it.

The ones that come readily to mind are Dexter and Unshelved (as you can tell, my tastes are a bit on the eclectic side).

S Hn Y, Excel Saga and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Chalk up another one for Death Note. I must say, I'm impressed with what I've seen of it so far (namely, the 3 DVD's and the first four books of the manga). Of course, TVTropesWillRuinYourLife has struck in a minor form — I've already been spoiled for a few of the upcoming plot twists that I'd rather not have known about. Oh, well.

I always Neon Genesis was just a Darker and Edgier Gundam clone until I read this wiki. Ditto Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, which I thought was just another High School comedy, given how loathe people are to "spoil it" (even though said spoiler occurs in the SECOND EPISODE! (or third, or fourth - depends what ordering scheme you use. Either way, pretty darned early!)). And honourable mention has to go to Cartoon All-Stars To The Rescue, Troll 2, the series 2 finale of OC, and everything else listed in "Narm", which I've spent many an afternoon looking up on You Tube.

I, too, have recently discovered Death Note. I'm up to episode 12, and it's already in my top 10 anime.

Also, Azumanga Daioh. I'd seen an episode on Anime Network and didn't really see what all the fuss was about. Then, recently, I started from the beginning, and I have to admit it does have a certain charm.

This wiki made me discover :

  • Mai-HiME (very good anime, barely readable manga which missed the point)
  • Mai-Otome (awful anime, surprisingly fun manga)
  • Full Metal Panic (quite good and very fun, though Fumoffu does run the joke into the ground)
  • Haruhi Suzuyima (very good, at least the main storyline : the filler eps range from fun to horrible - that baseball match !)
  • Galaxy Quest (just fun)

This wiki incited me to take another look at :

  • Death Note (I'd heard of it, but never gave it a thought before. On the other hand, I was so spoiled that, 4 volumes in, I dread the upcoming Shark Jumping)
  • Genshiken (I had seen the first episode years ago and was taken aback by the pacing. The manga reads just fine, though)
  • Daria (I had seen the first couple of seasons way back then, lost track of it around the third, and then completely lost interest because of that episode with the holidays. I've now seen the remainder, and it was well worth it. Character Development !)
  • Borderline case : Slayers (more a consequence of my recent increase in anime-watching, actually, though some of the word of mouth around here was encouraging)

And I'm sure more will come. Thank you TV Tropes !

Two webcomics and a live-action show on Nickelodeon that I never would have thought twice about otherwise. Yes, I'm talking about Neds Declassified School Survival Guide—didn't see the anime character types, but my first thought was that it'd fit right in on Nickelodeon ten years ago. And xkcd and The Noob, which of course led to fantastic Archive Binges.

I didn't discover it here, but William Wide Web's Entry Pimping was what convinced me to finally Archive Binge on Terror Island and it's great.

Five relatively weird shows: Excel Saga, then Midori Days, then Azumanga Daioh, then Nagasarete Airantou, and finally the Melancholy Of Haruhi Suzumiya. If not for the wiki, I would have never sought those shows out (they're not what I'd normally watch.) Just by reading interesting write-ups and seeing what tropes are used, I took a look. These aren't the only shows I've been referred to by the wiki. These are just some of the strangest that I'd normally not see.

Not to mention all of those webcomics I mentioned earlier.

With Anime Suzumiya Haruhi No Yuutsu, Black Lagoon (though I was also encouraged by an user on anothe rboard), Excel Saga, Lucky Star, Welcome to the NHK (though, also influenced by AMV Hell 4) and [i]Genshiken.

Webcomics, El Goonish Shive, DMFA, XKCD, Dinosaur Comics and Darths And Droids.

Live action TV; Tochwood and Life On Mars.

No movies, games or western animation, though. I seldom watch movies, I don't own any of the new consoles, and I don't get channels that would show stuff like Avatar (nor am I all that interested in it) Other places I get suggestions from include two forums, and 4chan. Fun fact, I discovered Ookiku Furikabutte through /cm/...

[ed] Also, Discworld, I had heard about it earlier, but this wiki really got me interested enough to check out Thud!, and then some...

Not quite on topic, but before I found this wiki, I didn't know there was a Beast Wars cartoon; I'd only come seen the toys.

I was another one who discovered Neon Genesis Evangelion via TV Tropes, but I'd at least heard of it before. And the webcomics Irregular Webcomic!, Gunnerkrigg Court and Narbonic (all of which got the Archive Binge, naturally) and rediscovered Girl Genius and Adventurers!

VB: I was the opposite - never seen the toys (though this being a Transformers series they were bound to be there) but saw the cartoon sometimes.

I started watching Haruhi immediately after reading a traumatized fan's complaints on this forum. I'm not really an anime guy, and was kinda surprised how much I liked the show. It seems to take place in or near Kyoto, which is my girlfriend's hometown and the one place in Japan I know anything about.

On the flip side, thanks to literally hundreds of examples on this Wiki (9 out of every 10 mentioning the same character), I will gladly live the rest of my days without reading a single Discworld novel.

Avatar The Last Airbender. Well, I'd known about it before, but the bajillion plus examples on this wiki made a pretty good case for watching it. Another one that comes to mind is Sailor Nothing, but I'm fairly sure there are more.

Please be gentle with me.

Well, I read the first few last year, wasn't impressed. I figured, hey, it's still finding its legs, maybe this gets funnier or more clever as it goes. Judging by the detailed examples and descriptions provided on this wiki, if it does get funnier, it's a sense of humor I can't appreciate.

I discovered webcomics, period. I didn't even know they existed before this wiki. Specifically, {{Penny Arcade }}and EightBitTheater. Also Discworld.

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Neon Genesis Evangelion (I heard of it before, but I didn't know it was that popular), Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide (Never would have seen it otherwise as I only look at Nick for Avatar), Dr. McNinja, Dr. Who (I barely even heard of the show before coming to this wiki), and The Sarah Jane Adventures. I also never knew about the Narm that is The OC Season 2 Finale (and all the parodies it inspired) until browsing this site.

I going to read Sailor Nothing sooner or later too.

Before reading this wiki, I figured Avatar: The Last Airbender was just Nick's lame attempt at cashing in on the anime-watching audience. You guys helped me realize that Avatar was actually much smarter than the average children's show.
