Ymmv / The White Wolf of Westeros

Go To

  • Alas, Poor Scrappy: Despite being played for a sclub, and his own reputation in canon, the death of Edmure holds deeply tragic dimensions with his lamenting his foolishness and being unable to pass a last word to his family.
  • Angst? What Angst?: Thoros partially falls into this after Ned's death. In part because he chooses to focus on his deeds and impact over the loss.
    • Arya also falls into this some too, but part of it is covering her grief with anger. Which Geralt tries to sharpen into something more productive.
  • Evil Is Cool: Despite his very evil disposition, Euron is a smooth, smart and dangerous man, who works his way around other players in the game of thrones with hardly any fear.
  • Growing the Beard: The early fic sometimes got criticism for issues in presentation, grammar or the fact that in a way it was a Geralt exploratory part of the story. The point where the fic started to grow its beard a bit more was when Gaunter showed up, giving Geralt's journey a bit more focus for the future. But the real point where the story began to flex its plot powers was when Geralt joined the Tournament of the Hand and began to not only make friends with other major players, but show the author's increasing skill in writing fight scenes. From there, things only escalated, until he began to create a story that was very much NOT The Stations of the Canon.
  • Memetic Badass:
    • Geralt rapidly begins to gain this reputation across Westeros. Not only for his service to the North, but because he beat both Clegane brothers and JAMIE, who are are basically renowned as the best fighters of the realm. Then there's his political and planning skills, and you have the lone wolf hero that's becoming a new legend for the kingdoms.
  • Signature Scene:
    • Season 1:
      • Geralt at the Tournament Melee, where he shows his raw skills against 3 of the greatest warriors of Westeros.
      • Like in many crossovers in Westeros, Geralt cements his place as the great signature Spanner in the Works in his near single handed rescue of Sansa and Ned from execution day.
    • Season 2 has Ciri's final vision in the House of the Undying: revealing possible grim fates for the characters of westeros, and her challenging Daenerys to not become like the Dany of season 8.
