• Fandom Rivalry: With the Sailor Moon Crystal fandom. Crystal fans tend to dislike Mew Mew New for not being faithful to the manga (while Crystal is), while Mew Mew New fans retaliate by saying that Crystal has Off-Model animation (though there are people who also think Mew Mew New has a flat art style) and followed its manga too well to the point of speeding through plot and character beats that the 90's Sailor Moon lingered on.
• Old Guard Versus New Blood: Mostly when it comes to shipping; the millennial fans who grew up with the original tend to ship Kishigo (Quiche/Ichigo) more, but while in the original's day you'd have a hard time finding a single soul who shipped canon, Gen Z fans who came on during New tend to ship Ichisaya (or Masaichi as it was known in the past). This can be attributed both to New giving Aoyama more character development and to Stalking is Love being a less popular trope than it was in the 00s.
• They Changed It, Now It Sucks!:
  • Many Japanese commenters on Smewthie's YouTube channel seem to dislike Zakuro's deep voice. Meanwhile, the Western fandom dislikes Aoyama's lightened skin tone. However, he was light-skinned in the manga.
  • Not everybody welcomed the "updated" character designs, but Retasu (more specifically, that she's wearing a skirt instead of a swimsuit bottom and her losing her antennae makes it less obvious that she's also part animal like the others) and Bu-ling (who's now basically wearing the same type of outfit as Minto) have a number of detractors who claim that it makes them come off as generic.
