YMMV / The Reaping

Go To

  • Hilarious in Hindsight:
    • Leslie Burke is starting the apocalypse. Keep in mind the two movies are released roughly a couple of months apart.
    • Bridge To Terabithia and The Reaping both features a scene where AnnaSophia Robb is surrounded by CGI flying insects, which she then sics on her enemies en masse. The tone of both movies couldn't be more different than each other...
  • Narm: The scene where Katherine lays out an elaborate multi-part explanation of how the Ten Plagues from the Book of Exodus could have been a string of natural disasters that the Egyptians misinterpreted as the wrath of the divine. For a skeptical Hollywood Atheist, she seems pretty convinced that the Ten Plagues really happened, and that the Bible is an accurate record of history told by Unreliable Narrators—instead of, y'know, a religious text filled with just as many unlikely stories as any other collection of myths.
  • Nightmare Fuel: Now has its own page.
  • Squick:
    • An elderly woman runs her fingers across the dead priest's forehead, rubbing off some of the toxic waste as well in a Gross-Up Close-Up, and nearly puts her contaminated fingers in her grandchild's mouth thinking that it will heal her.
    • The flashbacks to Sudan show a brief close-up of an animal's skeletal corpse in the ground with flies on its eyeball.
    • Katherine and Ben follow the rotten smell and see what causes it: hundreds of dead fish floating in the two miles of blood-red water.
    • Loren's period visibly dripping down her leg.
    • The close-up of lice crawling over the children's heads as they're having their heads shaved due to the lice infestation.
    • Katherine investigating the McConnell house and seeing how messy the house is. Giant bugs infesting the leftover breakfast plates.
  • Tear Jerker: It’s revealed that the reason the formerly religious Katherine lost her faith is because on an expedition to Sudan, her husband and their young daughter were both killed by religious folks as sacrifices due to them being blamed for the year-long drought happening at the time.
