YMMV / The Chalkeaters

  • Harsher in Hindsight: "Breathtaking" is perhaps hit with this the hardest out of all the songs in The Chalkeaters' discography:
    • For starters, while Keanu Reeves' reputation on the internet remains relatively intact, the same can't be said for the game he promotes and stars in (which also led to the "You're breathtaking" meme in the first place), Cyberpunk 2077. The game launched with tons of graphics and gameplay issues, that many commenters on the "Breathtaking" song have pointed out the irony in its opening line, "A head on the screen seemed desperately keen, on selling me graphics instead of a game."
    • One scene shows the CEO of Blizzard, after having his heart changed by flying puppies shooting Care Bear Stares, holding up a sign that says "Free Hong Kong", referencing the Blitzchung controversy. In reality, not only did Blizzard never revoke the punishment towards Blitzchung (although they did reduce it), but in 2021 it's revealed that the issues at Activision-Blizzard turn out to be far more numerous and worse.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: One scene in "It Just Works" has Todd Howard shouting at the audience to buy more copies of the port overdosed, constantly re-released game Skyrim. Come 2021 and two things happened: Bethesda released yet another version of Skyrim (a 10th anniversary upgrade), and Microsoft acquired Bethesda, which led to jokes about Microsoft buying Skyrim by proxy.
  • Nightmare Fuel: In "One More Pull" Paimon subtly shows sadistic pleasure in the addiction to rolling for the Gachas, and when Professor Chalk quits Genshin Impact out of frustration and starts playing Star Rail instead, Paimon appears with a shadowed face and Glowing Eyes of Doom as they put on a mask to become Pom-Pom to begin the addiction cycle annew.
