YMMV tropes with their own page:

YMMV items that apply to all three cartoons:

  • Fan Nickname: Particularly within The Annotated Series, the song "Mega Move" is known as "the surf(ing) music" because of its first appearance during a beach scene in Super Mario Bros. 3.
  • Fountain of Memes: Each cartoon had more than a few jokes that stayed prevalent. It picked up in the Saturday Morning spinoffs with Super Mario World taking it up to eleven, especially the final episode, "Mama Luigi".
  • Ham and Cheese: The voice acting on all three shows, particularly prevalent in the "Mama Luigi" episode of Super Mario World.
  • Moral Event Horizon: In contrast to his video game counterpart, some of King Koopa's schemes have drifted into pure evil. In "Koopa Claus", he threatens to kill Santa Claus; in "The Ugly Mermaid", he plans to destroy an underwater city; and he comes close to feeding cave people to dinosaurs in two episodes of Super Mario World.
  • Retroactive Recognition: Believe it or not, Luigi is the future voice of The Nemesis. Good thing he didn't have a hot date with any Stars.
  • So Bad, It's Good: Neither cartoon is really good, as all three suffer from animation errors, terrible writing, and Ham and Cheese acting. That said, fans still find them to be enjoyable because of how laughably bad and cheesy they can get (on top of nostalgia from having watched the show back in the day). It helps that for all their flaws, the cartoons were actually very faithful to the games at the time, unlike DiC's other Nintendo-based shows.
  • Seasonal Rot: Super Mario World is generally considered the worst of the shows.
  • Unintentional Period Piece:
    • While not as blatant as the latter, it’s very clear The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! was made while Mario and The Legend of Zelda were still very much in their infancies. If that didn't tip you off, the occasional nods to Soviet communism (right down to a caricature of Mikhail Gorbachev appearing in a live action segment) will.
    • The infamous The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3 episode "Kootie Pie Rocks", where Milli Vanilli guest star as themselves. In November 1990, just two weeks after it first aired, Milli Vanilli were outed as lip-syncing their songs and their popularity plummeted.
