  • Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: Several throughout the course of the film.
    • There’s one scene where Brian makes Frank do push-ups while having him stare between Anna's legs with the promise that Frank will be able to have sex with her, only for the two of them to leave him humiliated. Really, it’s out of nowhere and is also horribly sexist.
    • There’s a scene where Brian and Keith share a half-baked conversation while neither of them are wearing either nothing or next-to-nothing.
    • The scene where Brian assaults Anita. Granted, there’s a lot of debate about what really happened that night- Bill Wyman said that Brian physically assaulted her, and Keith Richards said that Brian threw food at her- but even so, it’s probably at this point at which audiences will lose all reason to sympathize with Brian.
    • When Brian is fired, there’s an immediate Disney Acid Sequence mixed with Mood Whiplash when Brian starts dancing around to “Not Fade Away.” If the implication had been that Brian was actually happy to leave the Stones behind, it’s immediately ruined by Brian snorting lines of coke in the next scene and appearing depressed about it a few scenes after that.
    • There’s a shooting star at the moment Brian dies. What do you mean this wasn’t made on drugs?
    • There’s also the scene where Frank imagines Brian returning as a ghost to talk to an older version of Tom Keylock, thanking Tom for making him a martyr (even though it was Frank who killed him), all this juxtaposed with Brian and Anita on the set of Mord und Totschlag (despite the fact that Brian only contributed the soundtrack). It feels like a last-ditch attempt by the filmmakers to add some meaning to all the debauchery we just witnessed.
  • Moral Event Horizon: Both our hero and our antagonist cross this at separate points:
    • If he hadn’t already crossed this line throughout the movie, then Brian crosses it when he assaults Anita in Morocco.
    • Frank crosses this when he murders Brian for reasons that are never fully clarified and/or are nonsensical. He also never confesses his role in the crime to the police and even allows himself to be roped into destroying evidence. Oh yeah, and he also committed attempted rape before that (Janet was able to fight him off).
  • Narm:
    • The song "White Rabbit" being used in a montage of Brian and Anita embarking on their tumultuous relationship, which includes copious amounts of LSD and sex/bondage.
    • Brian carrying on about some grand "experiment" during the scenes in Morocco. It gets especially ridiculous when he screams "Experiment with me!" during the scene where he assaults Anita.
    • The scene at the end with a ghostly Brian Jones. Especially the line "Thanks for making a martyr of me. If it wasn't for you, I'd still be alive and no one would care."
  • Nightmare Fuel: Let's face it, regardless of whether Brian deserved his fate or not, drowning is still a horrifying way to die, especially if it’s on purpose.
  • Quirky Work: This film’s editing is all over the place, and there’s also that weird scene with a ghostly Brian Jones at the end of the film. It’s kind of like a bad acid trip.

  • Tear Jerker: Maybe not within the movie itself, but Brian Jones did have a depressing life and suffered a tragic death, and it’s made worse still by just how much Mick and Keith seem to prefer forgetting that Brian was ever a part of their band.
  • They Copied It, So It Sucks!: This film take a lot of cues from Performance. Several critics took notice of this.
  • Unintentionally Sympathetic: For the better part of the movie, Frank comes across as more sympathetic than Brian. That is until the very end of the movie.
  • Values Dissonance: While some of this is intentional, let’s just say that the men in this movie have no qualms about treating the women like shit (hell, the movie itself comes off as quite misogynistic at times).
